Sonic the Hedgehog has acquired a rather large supporting cast over the years. From deadly enemies, to the truest bluest friends a hedgehog can have, this franchise would not be the same without the vast multi-verse surrounding the blue blur. Today we are celebrating the 30 year anniversary of this amazing mascot by identifying and counting every character who has ever existed in Sonic's 30 year multi-media history.

Basically he's the man that cancelled Sonic SatAM at its highest point, screwed around with the Archie comics because his own comics couldn't take off... did you know he made movies? I found out and they suck. You think original Paramount Sonic was bad? Ken Penders was trying to turn Sonic into a crappy, confusing space opera thing. This guy made so many crappy characters that became good when Ian Flynn entered the scene. We got Scourge the Hedgehog because of Flynn! But because Ken made Evil Sonic, Scourge was one of the many characters ripped out of Sega's hands. Ken Penders is the reason SEGA is super protective of Sonic. WiiU Sonic Boom wasn't touched by Penders but was effected by the echoes of his malice. Thanks to Sonic Mania, IDW comics and their artists, Ian Flynn, Tyson Hesse, and Paramount; Sonic The Hedgehog can finally heal completely. This crap runs deep, man.

OMG! I can't believe we've been introduced to over 3,000 characters in this franchise. This was so much for me I had to take a break from hearing all the different characters. I would guess that about a third of this list are badniks but still, THAT'S A LOT OF PEOPLE! I'm So impressed that you made note of all the different characters and mentioned their different forms too. (I know you didn't mention all the sonic and tails variants which is a good thing. That would probably bring the count to 3100.) I'm going to be using this video as a rubric for any character I want to talk about. Thank you SO MUCH for making this video!

I mean this is the same franchise where Shadow's sister who suffered from an unknown disease got shot by G.U.N. This is the same franchise where The Princess of Soleanna can't even cry or the demon a.k.a. Iblis will be released. This is the same franchise which gave us Good & Bad Futures and ancient civilizations (ie. Echidna Tribe, Hydrocity, Marble Garden, Sandopolis). This is the same franchise where the plant creatures get invaded by the Metarex! This is the same franchise where a demon destroys the MF continents! It's unbelievable (but in a good way)!

@@Brabbs Well, I worked on listing all the characters from the Archie comics and video games. My other goal was to write detailed information about the character. I handwrote a five page paper specifically on Sonic the Hedgehog so you can probably imagine how excruciatingly long it would be and how much dedication it would take in doing so. I was doing this and achieved it on about 20 characters and gave up. This guy simply listed them but I also wanted to give a detailed explanation and history of every character.

What surprises me the most is that if you had left out the random animals and enemy types, it would have only lowered the total by around 200 I think. It's kinda amazing just how many characters have been made for this franchise over the years.

My Favorite Sonic Characters are 01, 231, 1620 I was born in year “Sonic Man” The current year is “Drill Worm” Really popular numbers are Theodore Acorn, Bart the Barfy Bumble Bee, Galan #1, and Mantis, Sonic produces over 100 characters per year, I wonder if there are more animals, humans, or robots, I like those prelate and robot master versions At various points it sounded like a poke rap, lol This video was insane, I wish I could like it more than once,

of course, the sonic franchise always create new enemies to fight in almost every single game, comic or tv show/cartoon/anime. meanwhile franchises like mario always have the same enemies. goombas, koopa troopas, paratroopas, hammer bros and etc... the only exception is the rpgs (before the dead of mario and luigi developer company and paper mario becoming generic).

@@malimaui2802 that's why i compared them both. they are big gaming icons with tons of tv show/cartoon/anime, manga, movies and etc... with a lot of characters. but in the case of mario is pretty much always the same, with some exceptions. it's always the same enemies, if this is something good or bad, it's open for discussion. i'm just saying that sonic franchise create new enemies and characters in almost every single game.

When I was a young girl, me and my sister would make cutouts (of our drawings) of the sonic characters and play with them like toys. We would also create our own characters and settings (drawings on paper) to invent our own sonic universe. When we found out about the comic book characters, we got excited and started discussing how we would integrate them with the other characters. A video like this would have been very useful 🥰 takes me back to memory lane.

Not really. He was obviously writing this stuff down before recording and just transferred his notes into the subtitles when uploading the video. There are several errors and inconsistencies that shows he didn't update it after he recorded.

my only sadness is that most Sonic Archie characters don't have a decent ending or that they have little chance of coming back, like Sally, Scourge, Jules, Uncle Chuck and so on.

Characters like Sally and Uncle Chuck survived the Archie reboot because they weren't owned by any writers working on the comic, so they'd have more of a chance at coming back than Scourge or Jules, who are in a definite "never touching again" state.

also Doctor Sun and Stephen Squealbird were just Robotnik in disguise. Badnik Amy, Johnny and Tails were transformations rather than distinct characters. disappointing not much research done into Sonic the Comic given how much depth it goes into with Archie!
