As great as Sting, Kurt Angle, and Jeff Jarrett all are, all three of them held the world title a total of 17 times. Jarrett may even still hold the longest cumulative days as world champion in TNA/IMPACT. Those factors and the rest of the times they pushed former WWE and WCW guys may explain that.

Gordon Ball well it was either go to TNA or retire early, angles body was breaking down from his pill addictions and WWE didn’t want him anymore, TNA took a MASSIVE risk signing him because angle was going no where fast, he was already in his mid to late 30s and was about to end up like jake the snake with alcohol, TNA helped him get off his addictions, helped him work a fixed schedule so his body could heal properly, and once he was truly ready they let him loose on the main event full time and became one of their head liners pulling in over a million viewers a week which was a huge deal

Jarrett's reigns really hurt the company. I remember when Raven and Rhino won the titles, I was genuinely intrigued by the product and couldn't wait to tune in. Then they just ended their reigns... So much talent: Styles, Killings, Rhino, Raven, Hardy, Brown, Christian, Joe, Daniels. They had so much to offer that could have made fans tune in. Instead, they went with one of the worst things about WCW in its last days: Jeff Jarrett as the top guy. Me: Can we have Ric Flair? Dixie Carter: We have Ric Flair at home Ric Flair at home: *Jeff Jarrett*

- Kurt Angle is not a recognized IWGP World Champion: To make a long story short, Brock freakin' Lesnar was wrestling in New Japan while honing his MMA skills so, just like everyone else, New Japan board thought to make him a heel world champion. Unfortunately Brock's contract expired during this period (New Japan has a less strict policy on freelance wrestlers), the beast thought that they didn't offer him enough to renew but he kept the belt hostage (because he thought New Japan owed him some money for some reasons). Since japanese people are kinda suicidal but not to the point to go ask the belt back to Lesnar himself, New Japan brought back the old IWGP title (the one which looks like a crown) and canceled Brock's name from the record books (along with Hulk Hogan's). Sometime later Antonio Inoki the legend, decided to cease his relations with NJPW and to start his own federation, IGF (Inoki Genome Federation), since he needed a champion he recognized Lesnar's title and paid him an unspecified amount of money to wrestle (and drop the title to) Kurt Angle. That's when Angle began to parade around the impact zone with the IWGP championship. I don't remember exactly what happened to IGF but at some point NJPW's board persuaded Inoki to give the title back and they set up a unification match between the IGF champion with the unrecognized belt, Kurt Angle and New Japan's IWGP World Heavyweight champion, Shinsuke Nakamura (before he became weird, his gimmick was that he was a pupil of Kazushi Sakuraba). Nakamura won the match via submission, got the belt and the glory.

Funny how even Pentagon Jr., the guy at the absolute bottom of the barrel, still had at least one good thing about his reign to speak of: The eyeballs his win got on the product. None of the titles in WWE or WCW that Cultaholic has covered have that distinction about their bottom champion.

@@dylanogg347 That's fair. There was a period, though, right after Tomko broke away from the Christian and AJ Styles trio that he was pretty hot with the fans, almost like a "next Matt Morgan" (take that how you will) so that's where my mind was at, but yeah probably a stretch. Similar with Hoyt. I agree with yall about Christopher Daniels - I actually forgot he was never Champion; and even though I wasn't the BIGGEST Hernandez fan (I liked Homicide more) it certainly looked like more than a few times they were gonna let him carry the gold. Maybe his promo skills hurt his chances.

@@Noobie2k7 2010 in general for pro wrestling was shit, wwe ,njpw and roh all were horse shit but still people tuned in to watch em.... God knows why people aren't watching wrestling anymore when the quality is 10x better than it was in 2010
@CHilla415
@CHilla415 4 жыл бұрын
@@Noobie2k7 Admittedly I haven't watched regularly since the low points of the Hogan era, when they kept bouncing around channels, and when were getting crazy with "new toy syndrome" (a new guy, usually ex-WWE guy, shows up, gets in the main event picture, gets the title almost immediately, company doesn't know where to go, drop title, do nothing, leave). Their story telling had dipped immensely during that time. I know good things have happed post-Hogan - Matt Hardy, EC3, and Lashley's run in particular, as well as more recent stuff I heard good things about - but I guess what I'm saying isn't that the product necessarily sucks but the buzz around it has never been the same. There was a time when hardcore wrestling fans were chanting "TNA" (sincerely, not ironically) during WWE events, as it was a quality alternative during some lull times during the 'E. That place is now mostly reserved for AEW, as TNA isn't really looked at as "cool" anymore. But during that period you mentioned, I agree - they honestly were putting out a better product than Vince at that time. I mean guys like Angle, Joe, Pope, Morgan, LAX, MCMG, etc. were making for great shows. They just haven't gotten that prominence back, unfortunately. Again, not a comment on the quality of the product, but rather the general feeling towards it. Also, Josh Matthews is terrible lol.

The sad parts about Tessa’s title reign is that she never got the chance to lose her title with honor and integrity. The virus fucked all that up, and even worse dudes got so sexist and jealous with her over that title belt, she barely got any respect at all. Not that her racism allegations helped, but the situation was really fucking messy, all around.
