So this isn’t directed at you since I know you only work at a Trek shop and not the corporate offices, but Trek really needs to be more honest and forthright with their customers as to exactly what part spec will come with each bike. I know they’re experiencing supply chain issues, but if they know they can’t get certain SRAM or Shimano components, then they should state so on their website and say exactly what the bikes will come with (and not hide behind the statement about reserving the right to substitute parts). I recently bought an FX Sport that was supposed to come with Shimano brakes, and instead I got ProMasters which are terrible and will need replacing.
@TalalipopMTB
@TalalipopMTB Жыл бұрын
Yes I completely agree with that. In my opinion it’s pretty unfair to customers and that disclaimer that parts can change isn’t that visibly noticeable either so it seems almost shady

I feel this. My brakes on my Marlin are some no-name Chinese things that aren't really very good. I took it back to the bike shop since it didn't match the spec on their website and they told me that was just a thing Trek does. Really disappointing.

From a Trek dealer here as well: bring your bike in ASAP if you are having issues with the installed components. We have been getting bikes in with Radius brakes on them that typically have Tektro M275/276's on them, and customers are having plenty of issues with them. Although bikes are being shipped with them on, which is less than ideal, to Trek's credit, they are warranting them frequently, and with little issue. Go to your dealer and file a warranty claim, the sooner the better, as a bike that is only a couple weeks old it's easier to get warranty work in than a two month, or two year old bike. Trek has pretty high standards for themselves. We have been getting Shimano MT200's on every bike we submit for a claim (because that is what we have in stock to install). If they aren't working, be open and honest with your dealer, let them know they are not up to standard. Make sure you are clear, but don't be pushy or rude, it will get you, basically, nowhere. Hopefully that helps, we have found Trek really receptive, because they genuinely seem care about customer service and having a quality product to offer.

Mine came with Shimano XT brakes instead of Deore so luckily I don't have to complain about this problem. I was a bit surprised that I've got 2x more expensive brakes than I was supposed to get, especially considering the price which was like $2700 or something for Remedy 8

Purely from a parts and service perspective I think the Marlin 4 and 5 should be discontinued. The front derailleur and chainrings are a pain to order.
@compasteedee
@compasteedee Жыл бұрын
I agree, I think these bikes are getting too outdated. I find the Marlin 6 with TrekFest is where the real value is, with its 1x drivetrain. The lower end models are starting to be a bit long in the tooth with multiple front chainrings. If they don't go away perhaps Trek will relaunch them with 1x drivetrains and Shimano Cues? It doesn't makes sense that beginner bikes come with more complicated drivetrains that are harder to learn.
@macfin4862

Could you not just upgrade to a 1x front? I find I'm seldom in the easier chain ring.

@@macfin4862 Yeah but doing all that is more than the bike is worth. I would just cry once and spend the money on a Marlin 8 or a Procaliber
@compasteedee
@compasteedee Жыл бұрын
@@Coolchris158 oh, it is definitely not more than the bike is worth. That can be done for somewhere in the neighborhood of $15-$150. I do it regularly with bikes. If it is 8 speeds or more, you just have to replace the front derailleur and chainrings with a cheap narrow wide chainring.

Can't believe they got rid of the 520... I rode across the USA on one in 2012, and commuted over 12k miles on one in 2011. I commuted on it till about 2021. Now I wish I didn't sell mine.

It is weird.... A young guy I ride with works at a LBS Trek shop. He purchased a Rail 7 a few weeks ago after riding with myself and my Rail 9.8. His had Shimano brakes. His dad purchased a Rail 7 the next week and it had SRAM... He wasnt too happy about the SRAM switchup and I dont blame him. There were other issues also the young guys Rail 7 came with a smaller rear caliper vs what was specd.

I’m looking for anyone who has experience, or at least an educated opinion on the Marlin 5. I can see that it is being discounted at my local bike shops, and I happened to buy one last year. I visited every bike shop in my city, and I tried to consider every option in my range ($850 max price, hard tail MTB) and this seemed to me like the best option. I put one on hold, and bought it once it had arrived in store. I’m mostly happy with it, but it was perhaps a bit underwhelming. If anyone has an opinion on this bike, and if there’s a much better option in a similar price range (prices go up every few months it seems)

I went with the same bike in 2021. After a lot of comparisons between comparable Giants, Porygons, avanti etc I found the Marlin 5 was the best value and my local store is a stockist. I'm in Australia and purchased in October 2021. 2 x 8 drive train.

Marlin 5's are very good bang for the buck platforms imo. i've owned 2 and just recently bought the 2023 Marlin 5 to replace my 2017 Marlin 5 for my summer commutes to work (in Alaska) I average 3000 miles a year cycling, usually 2000 miles is during the summer. I rode a Marlin for 6 years, and only replaced the cranks & cassette that was super worn out. lol. decent. I also have a Trek Farley 5 Fat bike as well, and oddly enough , ive noticed some similarities between the two haha. Both the Marlin and Farley weigh the same, at 30 pounds...and both are base model bargains! and both of them Look really cool and flashy with their paint schemes! i love it! BUT- 700 dollars for an aluminum 2x8 hardtail w/ hydraulic brakes is pretty rare in the bike market nowadays! - And i feel like the aluminum frame is very similar or probably the same material as my Farley 5. -so thats good i guess, since my Farley was $2200. But Having a cool looking bike is usually a priority for myself as it really makes you excited enough to want to ride them more often/ and i love showing off my cheap ass Marlin lol👍👍👍👍

Yeah pretty crazy how fast that happened, but I’m assuming people just aren’t as interested in a city / commuter bike that costs that much money. That’s just my opinion though

@Talalipop MTB They just didn't hit that advertising niche hard enough. Specialized did, and their e-commuter sales are through the roof at the moment
@compasteedee
@compasteedee Жыл бұрын
@@louishansen2370 It isn't that Trek isn't succeeding at the marketing, The Verve+ models sell like hotcakes; I think it is the price point. The Allant is a fairly large chunk of change for anyone to spend, and I don't think people in North America in general have really bought into the idea of a vehicle replacing commuter. If it was a broadly accepted idea to lose a car for a bike, I think this bike would be a much bigger deal. I understand why a lot of people aren't on board with a commuter bike too, for many it isn't a reality at this point. I think it is a good bike, just a bike ahead of its time, perhaps.

I have been noticing that the trek marlin 6 gen 3 hex blue to deepdark blue is no longer available in sizes S, M, & L. Why is that? It's barely released in the US. Why is it being discontinued so quickly!?
@TalalipopMTB
@TalalipopMTB 10 ай бұрын
Hmm it may just be out of stock for now and they will restock them later. A few of the sizes in every color are crossed out so either they ran out of those colors and will restock or they might be releasing new colors in the near future. Just my guess though
@vindifrenzy1100

@@TalalipopMTB No, it says that the product is no longer available online. How is that related to it being out of stock!?
@TalalipopMTB
@TalalipopMTB 10 ай бұрын
In Trek terms, those basically mean the same thing, as unavailable online means that Trek has sent all of those bikes from their headquarters out to their retail stores. Then they will either make more at the headquarters to restock them online, or they might not make any more. So it could be either out of stock or unavailable for good, but for these new marlins my guess would be that they are just out of stock since these are fairly new

@TalalipopMTB
@TalalipopMTB 10 ай бұрын
Slash Gen 5 still seems to be for sale but they'll likely phase these out eventually as the new slash takes over. Trek warranties all of their frames for life, even ones from the 1970's if you have one, so no warranty issues there.

There are some reasons, like for the Remedy it's the only 27.5" wheel mountain bike from Trek, or the old generation fuel ex if you prefer that style and they are more lightweight as well. Not reasons that appeal to everyone, but certain people may want them
