Yao was actually a very good midrange shooter. He would post up, turn and shoot over centers like they're guards. Had he played in this era where shooting is more important and practiced his shooting more, he'd definitely be a 37-38% 3pt shooter, maybe even more efficient.

MrGladBEASTftw if you actually watched basketball, specifically Shaq and Yao, you'd know that the 3 was not as prevalent then as it is now. The NBA had to change a rule because Shaq was so over-powering. I'd take an easy post-up from a guy like Shaq and Yao than a three from a streaky shooter any day of the week.

Yao has always had an amazing stroke. Makes me wonder if he came into the league around now, his career would probably have looked very different. He wouldn't have needed to pack on as much muscle, and maybe he would have had a longer career? He was always pretty nimble for how tall he was, and he definitely had a very good midrange shot. If he grew up in an era that encouraged everyone to shoot threes, I imagine he would have been very comfortable taking them.

If it was more acceptable at the time, Yao would’ve absolutely been a good stretch big. He had a great shot and used it very well from the mid range, but big men like Yao especially were not supposed to take threes back then. He’d be a MONSTER in the NBA today.

Both of these dudes can hit threes. They're centers though, so the scenarios where they would need to are so miniscule and basically down to a trick play that most coaches wouldnt let it happen regularly.

On the SNES, I used to play the hell out of a game called NBA Showdown. I think it’s the only game to feature Jordan, Barkley, and Shaq. Loved using Shaq at the 3. He would shoot a hook shot at the wing and make it every time.
