I was a Celtics fan that never saw Kareem as Lew, we really believed he was washed up after game one and then he destroyed us, oldest guy in the League...it was a sight no old Celtics fans is ever likely to forget, Kareem never showed any emotions except anger towards us yet here he was celebrating after dunks, unreal, still one of the best performances I've seen.

The one thing that never gets talked about is the respect of Celtics fans' had for Magic, Worthy & Kareem when they came to the Garden. Look the many player intros on yt, reg season, Finals, etc. The applause drowned out the boos!

@@razkable after that performance, I questioned how old the Celtics Frontline was...unbelievable performance by the Captain, I was young in the 70s and early 80s, missed alot of his games back then but I saw that one for sure.

38 years old, outplaying the greatest frontline in NBA history. As an 18 year-old man at the time, I knew even then I was watching true greatness. When you take into account his HS, College, and Pro careers, I'm not sure there's anyone better than Kareem

This moment amd accowmplishment by Abdul-Jabar at age 38 doesnt get enough respect. One of the greatest performances at that age . That was probably the highest level of basketball between Bosron and LA. The game itself was singing because those two teams playing it. You had Magic, Bird, Parish,McHale, Worthy, DJ, Cooper. Kareem Abdul-Jabar was the best playrr on the court in that series. That is saying something.

Favorite moment? The fourth quarter of Game 5 of the 1985 finals. The Lakers staved off a Celtics rally as each team converted five straight possessions down the stretch. On the Laker five straight converting possessions, Kareem assisted on two buckets and hit his second and third straight sky hooks in the quarter. Before the latter one (on the fiffth consecutive converting possession), I had concluded that the first team to faile to convert a possession would lose the game, the series and team of the decade honors. When Kareem hit that sky hook (right after Tommy Heinsohn exclaimed, "What a ball game!"), I knew that that team would NOT be the Lakers. Sure enough, after a Celtic miss and a Rambis steal to feed a Magic layup, Kareem hit another sky hook (from even longer) and slammed home a Worthy pass, finishingi with 36 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. There was still Game 6 to be played but it was a world of differnece for the Lakers after the Game 5 win.

The great ones have one more performance in them....what those Celtics saw was a 1975 Kareem...the whole package: jumpers, up and under moves, left-handed sky hooks.....the prize was clinching on the Celts home floor, bigger than the title in Kareem eyes...
@andrewmarks464010 ай бұрын
Imagine being 37/38 and winning series mvp against Celtics who have home court advantage. That damn skyhook was a license to print money. I also think a young James worthy also pushed the lakers over the top. how does an nba champion get the no 1 draft pick……rigged.

Well Dawkins, just like the year before, game 3 blowout of the Celtics by the Lakers 137-104, 33 pt destruction, lead Bird to call his teammates sissies, it motivated Boston, to get physical and gain the psychological edge for the rest of the series, Lakers same thing after that opening Massacre, decided to get physical, and gain that psychological and that bullying edge on the Celtics, and from that point forward, Celtics couldn't match the Lakers, and that decided the series.

@seeker2984 Yes, he clearly was the MVP in 80, already won league MVP that year, his sixth and last one, if he didn't get hurt in game 5 1980 vs Sixers with the ankle injury, he would've gotten it, maybe the award still could've been given to him, but in the clincher, when Magic stepped up in his absence and filled in at Center, and scored 42 pts, 16 rebs, and 7 asts, probably still decided to just give it to him for that performance, since Kareem didn't make the trip to Philly for game 6.
