Narrative in Sathmar Swabian
VLACH ID-number: swab1242ROV0001a
Description:
Johann Bertusch reports about the linguistic situation in his native village Petrești. During his childhood everybody used to speak there just the Sathmar Swabian language variety. He also recalls memories about the Swabians who assumed a Hungarian identity and the conflicts that emerged from the confrontation of the pro-Hungarian and pro-German factions in the Swabian villages.

Very cool. I can understand every word expect the Words which are only used in Swabia. Pronunciation is not a Porblem for me at all. Im a Tyrolean and love to study my Language so its easy for me to understand People who speak the closet Language to Bairisch which is Allemonn!

So where exactly is his village - in Romania where the Swabians lived, in Serbia where you can find a district called Banat or in fact in Hungary - there is a region called Szatmar near Satu Mare in Romania, and hungarian sequence of letters 'sz' is read as 's'' so would it be that region of Hungary? I am really confused as to what place he comes from.

My Grandmother was partially Hungarian from Batchka (Serbia). She spoke a Donau Schwabisch dialect of German, but I am also a Slavic mix. This is very interesting to me. Thank you for creating this video.
