Thanks for watching! Like I said, I'm aware the part of me that wants more capability usually loses to the part that wants to be minimalist. 😅 In my mind the spare magazine fills a different role than the backup gun. Realistically I know that both have very low probability of ever being necessary. However, like I mentioned in the video, it's not likely you'll need a gun at all. So, by carrying a gun at all we're prepared for the unlikely emergency. We're not only considering the odds but also the stakes.

Nice set up. I carry a taurus .357 on my ankle and Glock 43x cross body. So those that say you shouldn’t carry two guns. Won’t have a back up when they get their first taken from them from not knowing how to use it and defend it correctly.

There are several good reasons for carrying a backup gun, although there are also good reasons not to. Check out the website, I'd love to get you in a class!

I wish there was more Tactical Response alumni making content. Some of the most relevant content and information out there. It’s amazing to find people with like mindsets and mentalities, as the only place I have found that is in training and the gun culture.

I find the 5.11 jeans fit me better and last longer than the Vertx, but I have both. I just prefer the 5.11…

It's mostly personal preference, I just got very frustrated with how much money I was spending for a pair of jeans to only last 6-8 months.

Great video! love your 19 setup OEM +, any reason no OC? I think for me it's a better medium than a knife for the weight personally I have keys to cut box tape.

Much appreciated! Yes, the reason (not a good reason) is I haven't gotten around to replacing my old can of OC. I think carrying a less lethal option is a really good idea.

Ok, my two cents. Why not switch the shield out to a G26 for backup carry? Same manual of arms for your primary, magazine from 19 will run in 26, and it's a great ankle gun. The G26 will also work in many holsters for the 19. Second point. Have you thought about adding a couple small lock picks to your EDC? You carry a handcuff key presumably to defeat some locks if needed. A small tension tool and an Octo-Rake will take up less room then your lighter and be able to defeat many different types of locks. In a world of civil protests and riots the concept of being able to pass a lock that can be locked again behind me, creating space between me and a crowd, seems like a good idea. Cheap to pick up and you can become very proficient on a rainy weekend morning watching KZfaq, plus its addictive.

Thanks for watching! Glock 26 would be a fine ankle gun, although a little fatter and heavier. I owned the Shield first and it just became the backup when I got the Glock. It works fine so I didn't see a need to spend extra money to get another gun to fill a role that was already filled. The guns also operate 99% the same way so I'm not concerned about a consistency issue. I'm not opposed to having a set of lock picks, it's just not a skill I currently have (or any of the people I'm commonly with) so no point at the moment. I'd be interested in learning though!

When my Agency approved the carry of back up guns, I immediately started wearing a Glock subcompact in an ankle holster on the theory that the same manual of arms would help & in an emergency I could even use the spare magazines from my duty belt... But I quickly learned that weight is just as important a component as size & at the end of a 12 hour shift it felt like I had a boat anchor strapped to my leg. I ditched the Glock for back up & switched to a S&W Model 642 in an ankle holster & never looked back 👍👍 In fact, my Agency eventually adopted the Model 642 as standard issue for back up & off duty use.

I've heard great things about those tourniquets, I just haven't ever used one myself. It might be nice, especially for the ankle kit, to be slightly more compact.

An amazing edc! I read the description to the video and see you carry 147 grain in the Glock and 150 in the Smith and Wesson. I am new to firearms and actually just got my first 3 weeks ago. Currently running Hornady Black 124 grain out of my Canik Mete MC9. What is the reason you picked a higher grain?
@RapidResponseTraining
@RapidResponseTraining Ай бұрын
I don't have a short answer so I'll give you the long answer. I used to be issued +P+ duty ammo which the Shield is not rated for, so I needed to pick a second ammo type for that gun. The 150 grain Federal HST was supposedly designed specifically to preform well in small guns (3.1" barrel for the Shield). I'm not sure how much of that is real or marketing hype but HST has a good reputation. The duty ammo then changed to the 147 grain Speer so I chose to use that in an effort for consistency/commonality.

@@RapidResponseTraining okay thank you. My canik has. 3.18 inch barrel to be exact and I’ve been told by my grandpa who also has guns and many years of experience as well as my dad to stick to the middle ground which 124 is. I was just curious but as long as it works for mine that’s all that matters. Thank you for the reply

I would say nice dump but this was not a real dump. A dump is you put everything laid out, not put it back in your pocket after showing each item. Why? Memory retention. Seeing overview more satisfying than trying to remember what you showed us. Nice slapjack.
