Willemijn will discuss the concept of everyday communication in aphasia rehabilitation. Using the theoretical definition presented in her PhD thesis as a starting point, she will explore how this affects our thinking about different topics relating to everyday communication such as opportunities for intervention, assessment and generalization of treatment effects.
Willemijn previously worked as a speech and language therapist at an aphasia centre in Utrecht, the Netherlands. She then completed a PhD at the University of Reading in England on functional communication in post-stroke aphasia, exploring its theoretical definition and subsequent implications on experimental research and clinical practice. Willemijn currently works as a post-doctoral researcher at the Donders Institute of Cognition, at Radboud University in Nijmegen.
