I did landscaping for years and something like this is how I unloaded my trucks. I built mine granted but similar. Difference was I added a crossbar to the far end the tarp looped around, which rode on wheels on the bed rails. This makes it better for stuff like branches and bulky things to keep the tarp from pulling out. Also, I attached mine to the bumper, and would remove the gate to empty. Kept the gate from popping up under heavy loads. Enjoy my opensource feedback lol.

I bought one of these many years ago and love it. Great for those heavy and light loads, sand, gravel, cement blocks, etc. In recent years I have been helping a neighbor get mulch for his garden and find the 5 gallon buckets work best. I have a Toyota Tacoma and can fit 20 buckets in it. Easiest way to load and as I am unable to get close to his garden he uses a two wheeled truck with two buckets at a time to get where he wants. Easy to locate where he wants it distributed.The unloader is really great for most, but as i will soon be 90 years old I have given it to my son.

It really helps if you have a sprayed in liner (which is very abrasive in most cases) is to put a cheap vinyl tarp under the unloader tarp, which will help it slide better. I can unload 2000 lbs. easily because I have a plastic bed liner, which is slicker than snot on a door knob.

This was as seen on TV in the 90s. after late night tv adds it made its way to Kmart. I bought mine from Kmart in 1999. Still as strong after many pokes with a pitch fork. the fabric looks different today than what I have so I hope it is as strong as the weave I have. used it to pull rock, concrete, dirt... love it. I got the small one for a ranger size truck.

I think I would check around to see if a conveyor belt to move the dirt from basement to pickup bed might make the job go quicker. Or at least to move dirt out of basement.

Yeah, it can handle gravel. I am sure gravel will accelerate the wear but should work just fine. 👍

Might be overkill and not worth the effort but I would throw a couple coats of clear coat on the tarp thing for wear resistance. That would make it last at least a decade depending on use.

This is so cool. I have been just putting a tarp on a moving blanket, but have never tried that kind of weight. I saw that it is not Prime on Amazon. $30 shipping. Harbor Freight (dont know how good it is) sells one for $47. I can get it at the store. i.e. no shipping. Thanks for this video.

I have a 9x12 tarp from Job Lot / Ollie's that does the same job. If you have a bed liner, the tarp slides out real easy. I use it when I need to haul stuff to the dump (rush, debris, etc.). Just line the bed with it first, put excess over the sides, use the truck doors to hold the back end up while loading. Load up bed, then using bungee cords, bring the sides / corners up and connect them together (keeps debris from blowing out while you drive to the dump). At the dump, just drop the tailgate, take off the bungee cords, grab the ends and pull. The load will slide right out, and all you then have to do is shake out the tarp and off you go, with a relatively clean bed.
@EverydayHomeRepairs
@EverydayHomeRepairs 2 жыл бұрын
I can see that working with for leaves and lawn debris but have you tried pulling 2000 lbs of dirt out? That would be impressive 💪
@rrad8106

@@EverydayHomeRepairs I've hauled tree trunks and usually the bed is loaded pretty much to the hilt. For larger loads, two of us get on either side and pull the tarp out. I've not hauled dirt yet (in this truck), but the day is still young...

Yep, we’ve all been there. But true, 2000lb dense weight distribution across the tarp/bed, such as dirt/sand, ain’t budging. The very reason for this accessory.

Good info. For your specific job you might use a Gorilla cart as it might be able to roll into the basement and you could load the dirt directly into the Gorilla cart. Might even be able to attach the gorilla cart to the hitch on the truck in order to take it up hill. Instead of having to carry those buckets full of dirt.

This and the bed extender (watched that vid 1st and then this link popped up, so here I am😀) are awesome accessories. What would make this killer, being automatic w/ a remote control, yes…..know that has its own challenges to deal w/, but how cool would it be. Granted, I’m sure there’s plenty of accessories like this out in wild, but finding quality and durability products, well, that’s the key…..& challenge😉 Cheers✌🏻

Slick. Can you put the tail gate up with it attached? If you built a ramp (piece of ply and a couple of 2x4s) you could load using a wheelbarrow. Much easier than schlepping those buckets.
@EverydayHomeRepairs
@EverydayHomeRepairs 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, just as long as you keep the material off the tailgate it can close without issue 👍

Would it help if you built a three-sided frame (like a flower plantar) and laid it on the truck bed? That would contain the dirt and debris, and keep it away from the wheel well.

Yep, I’ve (and probably most here) routinely used the tarp beneath and slide the load out with usual success. There’s always a line when just too much weight to pull/slide effectively. As a one man DIYer we just do the best we can.

@silvaincyt4810
@silvaincyt4810 2 жыл бұрын
Doing the math … if the motor in the roller could withstand a 2000lb load that means it would take about 36 buckets filled with wet dirt in those 5 gallon buckets which equates to 55lbs, which means you’ll be making 18 trips to fill up the bed if the truck with 1980lbs ……
