1995 grand champion Kyler Storm takes on Gladiator Turbo in this round of Breakthrough and Conquer and performs an insane flip right over the gladiator’s head!
Breakthrough & Conquer:
The contender must face two Gladiators in this two-part event. First, they need to score a touchdown against the first Gladiator. Then the contender must wrestle the second Gladiator, forcing them to step outside of a ring.

ABOUT AMERICAN GLADIATORS:
Welcome to the official channel of American Gladiators, home of patriotic spandex and giant cotton swabs.
Beginning in 1989 for 8 seasons, this competition swept America. Two men and two women compete against each other and a roster of "American Gladiators". Events included, The Assault, Joust, The Wall, Breakthrough and Conquer, Hang Tough, Powerball, and many others, all culminating in the final event, "The Eliminator", a difficult obstacle course race. Every season there is a tournament to determine its "Grand Champion". For two seasons, there was an "International" competition taped in England where the champions from 4-6 countries competed similarly.

What is almost as impressive as Kyler's flip is the fact he beat Sabre in the conquer ring. That didn't happen often.

The craziest thing to me is how clean it was. I've seen people flip and land awkwardly. He was in stride when he landed.

I watched this episode live as a kid. By the age 6 I taught myself how to do a back flip and front flip. Crazy thing I was like hmm I'm going to try that in the next flag football game. We made it to the Championship and I did it over a kid and landed in the end zone. Till this day child hood friends bring that up when I visit back home lol I miss the 90s

There was a guy named Rick Hurst? He was on around the time Rico Constantino was. He subbed for some guy that got hurt. He came in for an injury replacement & did this amazing move on Breakthrough & conquer. I'll never forget it. But this is better

Second most impressive flip I ave ever seen in "football" period. The first is Jerome Simpson, but only because he had all the gear on and was against a pro defender in an actual game. Still impressive though. Then he went and destroyed another gladiator in the conquer ring.

Take downs, fake-outs, fast feet, incredible feats of agility and strength, but none is more exciting than a good somersaulting jump over a Gladiator. Second (personally,) is the part in Hang Tough where that same contender outmaneuvered a Gladiator with gymnastic skills before making a soft landing on the other side.

I remember watching this on USA back in like ‘94 and immediately went out into my backyard and tried doing it. I gave up when I kept landing flat on my back and knocking my wind out😮‍💨

IIRC, one of the Gladiators was apparently a little upset that Kyler showed them up with that flip and got disqualified for punching him. 😄

The only punch I remember was when Turbo punched Kyler in Slingshot and I believe it was in this same episode. Kyler faked jumping off his platform once or twice and Turbo got pissed off and hauled off and punched Kyler in the face in the middle of one of their jumps. It was an illegal move by Kyler that had a terrible overreaction by Turbo.

There's some background information Kyler storm Did something that terrible didn't like and during the match terrible actually punched him in the face and it was completely uncalled for and the and this was basically their last competition together and that's why Turbo really just gave him the credit because for him to just evade Turbo like that was amazing and blew everyone away to this day anyone who sees that clip there totally amazed by what he was able to do

It should be noted, though, that this happened BEFORE the punch. The old clip of Nitro talking about it on this channel had it backwards. Swingshot was actually the NEXT event, and that's where Turbo got too worked up over Kyler breaking the rules and socked him midair.

It’s funny he mentioned Larry Thompson telling him not to do it before because of insurance. I was always kind of surprised this show lasted as long as it did despite its popularity because of the somewhat violent and physical nature of so many of the events and the seeming lack of safety protocols in place. Though they all seemed to be fortunately very minor i remember quite a few head injuries. I mean look at events like power ball, break through, and pyramid, that are more or less full contact with nothing but a janky looking helmet and no pads. I think it’s lucky no one ever got hurt badly. Especially with some of the gladiators having a tendency to play a little dirty and over aggressive(cough coughLASER cough cough)

Rugby and Aussie Rules Football are both full contact sports that don't use padding, so it's not unheard of. With that said, there are a lot of head and neck shots, and unnecessary continuation on tackles that would not be allowed today, now that we know a lot more about concussions and CTE.
