As a portuguese, we sadly expected our fans at the stadiums to be arab and indian people who just like Ronaldo and don't care about the actual team at all. Ofc there are portuguese people there aswell, but they are severely overshadowed. You can't even hear the portuguese "golo!" roar during the goals. Very sad to see...

They do not lie, but they announce the number of tickets sold and not the number of attendees, because tickets for residents and people from countries close to Qatar are considered a passport through which you can enter Qatar, and of course these people do not want to watch the matches, but to meet their families in Qatar or tourism and enjoy the atmosphere of the World Cup.

You're lucky people just left. The most embarrassed I've ever been as a sports-lover was at Real Madrid vs Manchester City in a pre-season friendly in Melbourne. People had paid anywhere from 80 bucks to 400 bucks (Australian) for entry to mid-July pre-season friendly; Ronaldo played 65 minutes, which was 20 minutes more than anyone expected - and as soon as he went off people started ripping up their $30 commemorative event programs to start making paper planes and throwing them towards the pitch. They weren't fans of Real or City, they weren't even football fans - they were theatre-goers who were attracted by one man's cult of celebrity, and when he went off it was the most egregiously offensive message to the players of "I'm bored" I've ever seen. Even after CR7 went off we were still watching Sagna, Nasri, Sterling, Iheanacho, Isco, Casemiro, and a bunch of other players better than we'd ever seen on Australian shores. Cringe and embarrassing.
