Here's a awesome little thing I learned in the MW "Piccadilly" mission. When you enter that 2 story library I think it is?? There's a dragonov sniper rifle on the second story by one of the windows. You'll hear over the radio chatter from a officer saying there's a crowd of civilians trapped by the water fountain/red bus pinned by gunfire. At that moment a terrorist comes around the corner of the bus and is about to slaughter all the civilians the radio operator called out. If you kill that terrorist before he opens fire, you'll get a another radio message from the operator saying "Whoever you are out there, bloody good shooting!!" Then another officer comes in gets the people out of the firefight. I loved finding that out.

Two things I feel are worth mentioning: 1 I remember some articles from around the game's launch about how IW had to cut out a lot of the more brutal stuff, obviously to appeal to investors and likely to avoid an AO rating or outright bans. Likely that the dialogue and cutscenes were done long before that and it'd be too expensive to reshoot, even then the more "graphic" scenes are a lot more poignant than in the old trilogy mostly because they're not juxtaposed with bombastic or cheesy hollywood styled action scenes. 2 The developers don't portray America as the absolute good guys; They use white phosphorous offensively which is a war crime, they fire into a Hospital with an attack helicopter despite clear markings, and overall they feel a lot more real than an army of genetic super soldiers. It's small deviances from the somewhat dickwaving behaviour of MW2 and 3 that humanise this game above a mindless corridor shooter.
@TheAkrillion

Not to mention, leaks from before the game came out mention that there was hints that Barkov might've done the dirty with 6 year old Farah. Having to cut out a lot of the fucked up shit didn't hold it back per se, but I feel having all that in the game would definitely break the mold of AAA games being safe.

There’s only one thing in iffy one is the theme of “getting dirty so the world stay clean” because when anyone else but the main characters do it it’s always wrong no matter the context. I don’t agree with what hadir does but it’s actually understandable having been fighting since being a child, and I don’t think he wanted to do it again or only use it against the Russians (the gas the Russians themselves used on civilians) I think Jacob geller does a fantastic video about this and explains it way better than I can. I mean next game spoilers Shepard does the exact same thing they’d do

I can praise MW19 for at least pushing the envelope a little bit. The game doesn't punish you if one or two civilians enter your line of fire mid-combat, because that's an unfortunate but 'acceptable' risk, and the uncomfortable nature of the interrogation scene was a bit chilling. MW22 on the other hand kicks you back to checkpoint if a single civilian dies by your hand, even if it was completely unintentional. So that's a step back.
@theickster3008
@theickster3008 Жыл бұрын
In my opinion every time MW19 "takes the gloves off" they immediately put them back on. The 3 most notable examples of this are at the end of clean house, when the butcher kills the kid and during the interrogation. In clean house you kill an unarmed woman, but as it turned out she was going for a detonator. When the butcher kills the kid, the kid runs into the smoke before he gets shot. During the interrogation the butcher's family faces no danger from us the players. Each time IW puts the player in a morally gray area, there's always an out, the detonator or the empty chamber(after which the wife and child then become "friendlies"). My criticism here would also work for MW22. It just feels like they were trying to emulate the shock and awe from the nuke in COD 4 or No Russian in MW2, but were too scared to go all the way with it. Perhaps in todays political climate that was the right choice, but in my opinion, it robs the impact those scenes had the potential for.

In regards of wanting a game to "take the gloves off," I highly recommend Spec Ops the line. One of the most finely crafted stories in a video game. It's based on heart of darkness, and doesn't pull any punches about the horrors of war and the game isnt afraid to show you.

I missed all the discussion surrounding the game when it came out, and only knew I was going into a visually stunning reboot of a trilogy I loved. 7:39 In the MP, the M13 (SIG MCX) is fully-automatic which as stated is exclusively semi-automatic here. This is good attention to detail because in British firearms guidelines for armed police or military units that are operating with live rounds (army exercises on training grounds don't count because they use blanks), you must not use fully-automatic fire for a number of different reasons but one of them is accuracy concerns, and another is damage concerns. If you look at a UK police G36C for example - a rifle that in German military usage has fully-automatic capabilities, you will notice they don't have a "fun switch".

I know everyone talks about Soap and Ghost in MWII as the peak character dynamic in the reboot trilogy but i really love the dynamic between Alex and Farah. You can never really tell whether they are just Brother and Sister in Arms or if they are romantically involved and the game never pushes it one way or the other because it doesn't have to. 12:30 I appreciate scenes that like too, it calls back to a story my brother told me. He was deployed to Afghanistan and during a patrol his platoon got ambushed, the pointman nearly got hit by an RPG, narrowly dodged a snipers bullet and sprinted through a hail of MG fire. He ducked into an alleyway, collapses to the ground and starts laughing hysterically, his mind couldnt even begin to comprehend the absurdity of the situation.

honestly Gaz is my favorite character in the Modern Warfare reboot timeline. of course i like everyone else and Soap is always gonna be a favorite, but Gaz is THE favorite to me, and it's weird to me that he isn't as popular. he's considerably younger than the other members of the 141 (his official bio states he joined the military at 16 and has been serving 8 years, meaning that he's only 21 in 2019 when the game takes place, and only 24 in MWII). his age makes him very interesting because it's said he's still just as efficient at what he does as the original Gaz, and i like to imagine him and Soap still have a playful rivalry over it in this timeline as Soap's journal implies in the original. Gaz is just. so interesting. but making him so young compared to not just everyone, but especially Price, gives them a more mentor-mentee relationship that i like, and also gives even more weight to his discomfort with the things Price is having him do, like with the Butcher's family. yes, he is a trained soldier, for a very long time at that point. but underneath all that, Gaz is still just a kid compared to everyone around him. he's just. he's such an interesting character to me!! and Farah too. i could do pages on Farah. i think this game's true strength is in the strength of their character's. although i have my favorites, every character is very well written and interesting

Best part of 2019 was when they made everyone believe Alex died but instead lived and they forgot about him in the second game

One of the things I liked was the safe house you defend with the Mortar flares and laser designater is very similar to the movie 13 hours.

The one mission I always think about when thinking of call of duty is vendetta from world at war. The cat and mouse game play and the only mission in stalingrad considered one of the most important battles of world War 2 for the russians

I’m so happy you saw the similarities to zero dark thirty. Especially the shooting the guy on the star case happens in the game and the movie, and in real life per interviews with the seals

I think the civilian challenges need to be recognised as well. You can get through all missions with no civilian casualties including london.

Can we just agree that Soap is called "Soap" because he's a wetworks operator. He's on a team that's constantly cleaning up someone else's mess. Which would be reason to give anyone on his team the code name "Soap", but perhaps that's all he's known for. He's never really seen on recon, he's usually part of the action.

Note about 21:16 - They actually do tell us how he gets his name in MW2 (2022)! "He earned the nickname "Soap" for cleaning house with remarkable speed and accuracy in room clearance techniques and urban warfare tactics."
