Every street food vendor in China uses gutter oil which is fished straight from the gutters or dumpsters. The gutter oil eventually also gets into the higher end restaurants because it's cheaper. If you have ever been to China, you almost certainly have eaten gutter oil.

I love that Karissa’s not afraid to try anything, I try to give everything a courtesy bite myself but the straight up fat she was talking about I already know would have grossed me out, it’s a texture thing for me.. but she ate it anyway, much respect. In Malaysia we call the hot pot with everything on skewers Lok-Lok, after the sound it makes when you dip them in the boiling hot broth, you can check on your meat from time to time but rule of thumb is 3 mins until fully cooked. It’s kinda like the Japanese Shabu-Shabu set up with the small, cylindrical pots but you might have to share, especially if it is on a good truck. You are charged per stick depending on what was on it.
