Everything I Did To Restore My Peterbilt Cabover And First Big Test Drive | Hope It Don't Break Down

I am finished restoring this Peterbilt 362. In this video I go through everything that it took to get this thing finished and ready for the road. I go over the troubles I had with the Big Cam IV Cummins engine - and why I had to get another. Then we go for a nice test drive. The last test drive ended quickly as the wheel bearings were wrong and my wheel seals blew out. Hope it doesn't break down this time.

Just found the channel and liked and subscribed #953. Awesome awesome rig! 1. Absolutely if at all possible look at something before you buy. Auction houses can be very very shady. Some are good but some leave alot to be desired. 2. Doing things your self and while it may cost to fix it up when compared to alternatives you are ahead. 3. Dont fireman pole out of the cab. I drove cabover hauling cars in 2000s and young and dumb and jumped down all time. Did same of farm and on construction equipment. It was fast and damn cool. Yup now in my 40s and my knees are saying stop it. Congratulations on a fine fine rig Ned. You may not see it as a show truck but in my eyes Pearl is damn fine.

Thanks for subscribing. And I have changed my ways in jumping out of the cab. Got more than a few comments from guys like you that learned the hard way. I like my knees and my mobility. So I'm definitely taking the advice and carefully exiting the vehicle going forward. So thanks for putting that out there.

O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 Definitely expect to have problems if you buy something unseen! I’m glad you inspected the rails & then had it done RIGHT! I love the extension…just long enough to give it more attitude, Cabover Attitude! The rails look so good! The 9 speed isn’t too bad for most loads, but a 10 or 13 might be a bit better. Just find out what works best for you. I rode in the passenger seat with my dad & oldest brother as well. I got loads of stories & experience doing so. I started driving at 6 in my dad’s wrecker & 11 when I drove my 1st Ford C800 cabover. I drove country roads & then city roads around my house. My dad encouraged e as much as he could. Cummins is a good engine for your Pete! They usually sound good, too. We’ve had Cat & Detroit as well. Bobtailing around is a bit bumpy, but still enjoyable, huh?! What would you do differently now, if anything? Sweet Ride! 🥰🤩✌️

When I was a kid back in the 80's my dad owned a 1982 362 with a 3406B and 9speed. Same exact corporate white, single bunk, except red interior. It to was over 17k empty. I believe the Cats are heavier than the Cummins but cabover Pete's were just heavy with the tall cab, all aluminum, and very little plastic used. They were well built trucks. If you want a lightweight truck, the Freightliners and International 4070's were lighter but also had a lot more plastic and always seemed keep. K100's seem to be a bit lighter than the 362's but they had fiberglass roofs and front fenders plus the cab was quite a bit shorter height wise. I remember most cabovers back than were Internationals and Freightliners and that is what large fleets had. Peterbilt's and Kenworth's where seen a lot less and Mack, Ford, and White cabovers where not all that prevalent. If you want to save weight, replace the from oversized steel bumper with an aluminum one, remove the dual stacks and go with a single stack and you can knock off 400-500 lbs. Another 500lbs if you cut the frame back to factory. If this truck is meant to work, make it the same as it came out of the factory. Now if weight is not a big deal find a Pete with a KT450. Talk about HEAVY! Great looking truck Ned and keep it old school.

I think you're right. Those Cats are probably a little heavier. I do dig the red interiors too.

I was 12 first time my Dad put me behind the wheel of International Eagle, later he bought a 1990 362 with the big cab. I would love to buy one for myself at some point. You got a nice rig there

I can surely relate to that. I was that age too when my dad put me behind the wheel. Only could drive at night and He was tough, but I still felt like the luckiest fella in the world when I got to drive. These old cabovers are a challenge to put back together. Hope you find one in really good shape that will make things a little easier.

Dry weight, zero fuel, the rails are about 80 pounds/ft. No free lunch. It rides better, but the stretch and double frame are HEAVY!

There’s no door window on drivers side. Might just be the camera reversed the image. Does that sometimes. Makes passenger side look like drivers.
