Thanks so much! And excellent question--I made two Gilberts in pattern size 8, even though technically my measurements put me in the 10 to 12 range. The fit on the 8 is juuuust right, with a nice, neat (but not tight) fit in the underarms. This would be the main issue for me with sizing down too much (too snug under arms). I have a red rayon version (in my Mitchell trouser video, I think) and I like how it drapes closer to the body than my green linen version, if that helps you decide on sizing at all. 😁

Stock currently looks low but you might be able to get the fabric details and find something similar: earthindigo.com/products/hemp-organic-cotton-canvas-dark-grey It’s been a very comfortable fabric for bottoms and I made a tote bag from it, too. Great fabric!

Such a great question and topic! Getting your hands on a basic sewing machine and some inexpensive fabric could be a good way to get started. Just mess around and follow the machine's instructions to try out some stitches. Building confidence with a sewing machine is a good first step. Signing up for an online beginner sewing class could be helpful, too, with videos you can re-watch anytime, or over and over again. Closet Core Patterns has a really good online course, I think, and it includes patterns. I am sure there are a lot more, too.💜

Of course and thanks for asking! The box came with a lot of polyester and synthetics, poly fleece, synthetic taffeta and the like, plus colors that didn’t suit me. No fault of the mystery box by any means but it did leave me with a lot to donate.

@@cleanqueen75 It's pretty nice! The fabric care on the website says dry clean, or cold wash + line dry. I did wash + tumble dry the yardage and it held up. For the finished garment, I stick to gentle cold wash and line dry. The seams can pucker and be a little hard to iron after tumble drying.

Great question, and yes! I made pattern size Small but my measurements put me in medium. The pattern instructions mention a lot of ease in the biceps and shoulders, so it was a safe bet for me. I think you likely know your body type best. I tend to be pear shaped and smaller on my top half overall, so I look out for words like "roomy" or "full" or "lots of ease" before sizing down! 😆
