Yes they are but I really think it is a squirrel as the holes are tiny and it looks pulled up rather than dug up. Thanks for watching and commenting!!

It’s little holes so I’d say sadly either squirrel 🐿️ or rodent 🐭, scatter chilli powder or flakes but then you have to be careful not to get in in your eyes 😢. But yes positives are what we need to focus on because critters don’t read the rule book. Hope the brassicas do well 🙏. Hugs for Daffy and Elijah 🥰, Ali 🌞🇨🇦

I've had the same issue with foxes digging up plants. If you use fish blood and bone when planting like me, that seems to be what has attracted them on my plot.
@LifeAtTheHamids

Yup, they do like FB&B but funny enough where i have used that it is untouched. With my beans and sweetcorn I didn't use any of that! I find if you put the fertiliser deep enough and push down firmly they seem to not dig up.

I feel your pain, if it’s not the animals, it’s the slugs. We are always at war with nature😂 Dam vegetables need more care than my children 😂

Thanks! Yes we are definitely at war with them. It is so painful when you spend so much time on it and then they destroy it overnight! I guess this is training for when my child and his toddler days :)

Hey i think it’s something looking for snails and slugs or birds like pigeons you need to properly net these areas until the plants are bigger

I'd leave the green netting on the brassicas.I find if you use the finer netting you get plagued by aphids and white fly .

squirrels rip plants out to see if anything is buried under them, they've done this with my cilantro earlier this year.

The vegetables I'm growing in containers is doing a whole lot better than the crops I've planted in the ground! Runner beans are well behind this year too and the peas are just a right off!! But we persevere don't we? Your plot is doing pretty well considering the odds against us this year so far.
@LifeAtTheHamids
@LifeAtTheHamids 18 күн бұрын
Yeah, my container crops are not doing so bad. I'm tempted to grow the rest at home now and not the allotment due to what's happening in the allotment. We have a squirrel that comes to the garden but never does the damage I'm seeing at the allotment! We definitely have to persevere, better than giving in?Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏🏾

Oh no, how devastating for you, after all your hard work! We are plagued by rabbits and badgers at our allotment and I have to net or barrier EVERTHING. On the sweetcorn, I use sticks in the ground and clip the green debris netting to them around the bed as a barrier, to deter them, it also helps prevent wind rock. I've also used the plastic barrier netting they use on building sites with sticks threaded through the holes and placed around the beds. It's fairly cheap and in black, not as unsightly as the orange. It lasts a few seasons before it gets a bit tatty, but it's effective. We are constantly trying to fight nature in this game and she's much smarter than we'll ever be! Keep going, good luck! 😊

This is my second year at the allotment and last year I didn't net anything without issues. I'm learning very quickly this year how bad it can get. At home I've been gardening for 5 years and haven't had to net anything either so it's been hard for me to see it all happen. The good thing is that I've had a crash course and will be netting everything going forward! Thanks for taking the time to watch and share advice 🙏🏾

are you using chicken manure pellets or blood fish and bone to feed the beds? If so that could be attracting foxes to dig thinking there's a chicken buried there...
@LifeAtTheHamids
@LifeAtTheHamids 18 күн бұрын
I'm using fish blood and bone when I transplant seedlings, but not in the beds that have been affected. I don't use it with beans and sweetcorn.
