8:10 I needed to hear this. I was 26 in 2007 when I realized what I wanted to do. Went back to school in 2011 at 30 and finished my BA in Psychology in 2014 at 33. Went to grad school in 2015 at almost 34 but didn’t finish until 2021 at 40. I’m 42 and finally qualify for my license to be a Professional Counselor that I plan to apply for once my bankruptcy has been discharged. I’ve had section 8, lived in my car, been attacked by family, lost friends. I went to 3 different schools for grad school. Left first one for health issues and a conflict. Second school closed when I was halfway done. Third one I graduated from but ran out of financial aid my final year. I got a fellowship and a few scholarships and then the pandemic started in my first year. I worked 3 jobs prior to the pandemic until everything shut down. I’ve learned that all I had to do is make the decision to keep going no matter what. I now work for a women’s prison providing mental health services to inmates. I plan to start my private practice next spring 2024 and begin my doctorate soon after. I was just about to give up my dream until I heard this interview and the message my Bishop gave this morning. God I hear you! Stay tuned on the outcome of where I am going with my career. Maybe I’ll be a guest on The Ricky Smiley Show one day 😉
