Everything Presence Lite: Prepare to Have Your Mind Blown!

In this video, we're going to take a look at Everything Presence Lite, a new smart home device that has a lot of features. We'll discuss Zone detection, which is the feature that allows you to identify different areas of your home, and see the different things that are happening in each zone. We'll also take a look at Presence detection, which is the feature that allows your devices to communicate with each other and see if someone is currently in the room.
If you're looking for a new smart home device that has a lot of features, then you need to check out Everything Presence Lite! It was developed by Lewis from Everything Smart Home. This sensor is smaller than the Everything Presence One but has one amazing feature extra. It can detect people in zones!

This is a rarity for me, but I happened to have a few extra dollars - As soon as I saw the multi-zone functionality I immediately bought one (though looking at shipping, almost wish I had bought two...) I just redid my kitchen, and I'm hoping I can use it to trigger under-cabinet lighting for different sections of the counter. If this works like I'm hoping it does, this will be a dream! I'm also wondering if it's possible to have it act as a security device, if you could have the path of a target overlaid on a floorplan (or even just the current position)... I might look into ways to do this, as it would be a far more comfortable solution to security cameras in the house. No matter what, thanks for your work on this, cheers!

Great work as always, just a quick question. Why is it the EP1 doesnt have zone controll? i have a room that is 6m x 6m so i would need the detection of the EP1 but i also want the features of the EPL

@@jackofalltrades4091 The mmwave sensor in the EP1 only supports distances and not X,Y coordinates.

Fantastic video showcasing how this sensor works! I do think it’s really important that you’re upfront when companies (including small ones that don’t feel like corporations) send you stuff (especially when it’s not released to the public yet). Being sent stuff can still influence your review even if you’re not paid for the review. I’m not saying this is a dishonest or disingenuous review, I just think it’s good to be fully upfront with the viewers when doing reviews.

Interesting - thank you! Did you (or can you) measure the power consumption? My current PIR sensors are battery powered, are mm-wave sensors generally not battery?

Yes, they are not battery. I believe because they are constantly scanning which needs constant power.

I may have missed something but what is the communication method? Bluetooth/wifi/etc? Also, any thought how well this would work on the ceiling? when we build our house i ran wires to each room to power and communicate with a pir/glass breakage combo unit but this would be much better. thanks

Hi Ed. If you look at this sensor and the Aqara fp2 without looking at the price but just how it works. Which one should you advice? I do use the Aqara fp2 now for 2 week and i am very pleased with it. I use it in my livingroom of 11,6 meters deep and 5,5 wide I use 5 zones and all works fine. I hope you have advice. The difference in price of 83 euro compared to 29 euro's is a really good deal in my opinion.

My experience is that the FP2 works better for larger rooms. Also it works better when approach it at a small angle.

The blueprint will not work with the EP1 and the Aqara FP2.

No, it won't. The sensor in the EP1 cannot handle it.

How long does it take before it turns on the lights? Was it really the 3 seconds it looks like? Or are the zone just so small that it does not respond before you are almost standing on the table?

It depends on how the zones are defined indeed. The severity does not respond as fast as the EP1 with the PIR sensor in it, but most of the time it's between 1 or 2 seconds.

I assume zones is just a software thing (esphome code). According to spec sheets of the DFRobot sensor used in the EPOne, it can do areas. just needs to be configured. Therefore EP1 and EPLite have same functionality (or should... I would hope that they will update the code for the more expensive EP1 for those that have purchased one).

Zones is a software thing, but the EP1 hardware cannot detect X and Y coordinates, therfore it cannot detect zones.

@@SmartHomeJunkiemaybe i misunderstood the data sheet, but looks to me it can detect movement in zones, and you just need to use software to detect motion direction (movement from one zone to another).

Just got the Athom one.. quite nice. My question is, since these all use espresence espressif and some mmwave sensor, what's preventing us from flashing the presence lite code and replicating its magic.. Btw I got 2 presence lite ordered

@SmartHomeJunkie: Bought the Blueprint, but have some issues. 1: When you say "top-left" and "bottom right" do you mean left as seen from the sensor, or left when standing in the zone looking at the sensor? 2: It looks like i HAVE to define all 4 sones and 4 lights in the blueprint, even though I only want to use 1 or 2 zones. That means I have to define a zone (albeit a very small one of something like 6000 and 5999) and a light or entity that will be turned off/on for the zones I really don't want. If something by chance enters that tiny zone. Any chance of making the blueprint not need to be completely filled out?

First of all, thank you for your support! You can just fill in 0 for zones that you don't need. Top left is indeed seen from the sensor, but I created a fallback scenario so that all coordinates should work regardless how you look at them. Let me know if it works for you. It's not possible to create optional fields, but setting them to zero means that the zone is the device itself which shouldn't give you any problems. I only use the zones myself and set the fourth to 0. If you have any questions, you can also contact me on my discord server. I'll be glad to help you out.

I’m struggling to get mine to keep the occupancy on. It’s in a 5m sq room facing inwards but doesn’t seem to pick anybody up if they are sitting down on the sofas - which are about 3m away. Any thoughts?

What's the maximum distance that you've set in the settings of the EPL?

Open the settings of the EPL in HA on your phone and walk through the room. You will see the X and Y coordinates of your location in the room in the settings of the EPL.

Hi. You also like the Aqara FP2. The FP2 is trash--I have 3 of them and they all have ghost issues to the point it’s unusable (still after so many updates). Does this sensor also detect static humans or is constant motion required?

@@soundneedle It detects static humans because it's mmwave. And I do not have issues with my FP2. I use it for months now without any issues. No ghosting issues here as well. It did take me some time to set it up perfectly though.

I like this video, it give's a high level overview of the EPL, the mention of a Blueprint sounded good, wow something to help me workout how to operate this cool device. Being the first time i've paid for a blueprint (Normally it's a community sharing this, well that was HA's intention) I had high expectations for the blueprint. I'm normally a positive kind of person, however after paying for the Blueprint and implementing (better words "Tryed to") the automation, I came out of that process quite frustrated, annoyed and with a automation that failed to use the EPL to simply turn on a light. Perhaps I got this Presence detection all wrong, thinking I should just stick to using a simple Motion detector and timeouts like I currently do. The main issue I don't understand are these zone X & Y positions. I was hoping the Blueprint readme would explain, but nothing in there helped at all, and the video just summarised it, saying add entries, numbers to "Enter the Top Left X position for Zone 1" etc etc etc. WHAT Numbers? 1, 2, 2000, 4000 etc etc etc. found some details in this chat allude to using 0 for "not used", also found some data regarding -4000, 4000 even max 6000. How does one workout the entries? even an example room like the one in your video with the numbers you use for the various zones in it would help. I get it you understand this, you built the Blueprint, however newbies to this Presence detection and zones like me are lost. Please help.

The blueprint has more than 1400 lines of code and took me a lot of time to write. This channel is my livelihood, and to make it sustainable I need to ask for a small sponsoring fee. You get the blueprint in return for this. The values need to be in millimeters. You can see the X and Y coordinates of your location in the settings of the EPL in HA. This way, you can figure out what the X and Y coordinates are for your zones. I suggest you walk through your room using your phone and see what X and Y coordinates the EPL returns. You can also use the EPL as a normal presence detector. In that case you do not need the blueprint.
