40 years of riding bikes and I have seriously never really thought of, or looked at the difference in wheel hight with different tires. That was crazy. Besides the ride, the aesthetics of a bike can suffer from the wrong tire.

When I raced back in the day from 86 to 92 I ran a 20 ×1.75 in the rear and a 20 ×2.125 in the front. I was a big guy for my age and it handled better in the corners. Most of the pros were running the same. Man I miss racing...

my diamondback had a bigger front tire but the rear barely made clearance around the v brake arms making it impossible to upgrade to a bigger ones so I used a ziptie to create an arch away from the tire. I have a road bike with 700c wheels. I routinely use 26 inch tubes because where I live 700c is rare. Works like a charm. With my skinny tires the smaller tube makes installation easier actually.

good idea. 27" work perfect, some are marked both: "700c or 27" " , but probably would also rare where you are if 700c is rare. i get 27" tubes off amazon for $7.50 cad ea, it's the only size of tube on there(Canadian site) that's not a completely rip off

Me riding bikes for 37 years & being a mid-school rider I prefer one brand of tire the Haro multisurface 1. X 275 & I always buy them in bulk & when I do I,ll wipe them down inside & out with Armor All just so they keep for a long time wile sitting on the shelf & I,ll do the same with grips to & I,ll buy them in bulk also & wipe them down with Armor All also . When I need new grips or a tire I,ll clean off the Armor All & let them air dry for a day or 2 & I have no problem doing this , there’s no slip from me putting it on once I clean them & they still feel & grip like new . I still have a bunch of Jive handle grips from 1989 & a bunch of Haro multi-surface tires from 1989 as well & I know for a fact that Jive went out of business & Haro doesn’t make the multi-surface tires in 1. X 275 anymore with the tan gum line side walls . I,ll die before I use up my grips & tires I swear & I have all my mid- school Haro,s that I had when I was a kid , I kept all 5 of them & I,m good on tires & grips for at least the next 30 years , see back when I was a kid I was smart with my money & 2 of are local bike shops went out of business & they both were having liquidation sales & that’s when I bought my grips & tires like 60% off so I had to snatch them up . Every thing is still like new thanks to the Armor All I put on them to protect them , yes I prefer the skinny tires to the big fat ones & I really don’t care for the sound these new tires make wile riding the pings & the pops when you land , nope that’s not for me , I want to hear the tick of my free spin hub , that’s what I,m use to & I,ll stick with that .

As I've learned with sportbikes, if you put a wider tire on a smaller rim it will create a peak in the center from pushing the sidewall in which makes leaning abrupt and not smooth. Something to think about on a street type of tire like that

Please tell us which tires are best for mag wheels such as Skyway Tuffs. I bought 20x1.75 Panaracer tires for Skyway Tuffs but they just won't center. Tried soap, massaging, gradual inflation etc, still lopsided. Its emabarassing spending $2 on a bmx and still have wobbly tires. I also feel it when I ride on smooth road at 12mph. Checked the rims, rims are spin straight.

I have a "94 GT Pro series with a 1.75 in the back and a 2.1 in front (both GT skin wall tires) that should be replaced. Also have a "94 PK Ripper with GT skin walls (both 2.1) that should be replaced. I was thinking of putting two GT LP5 110 PSI tires on the GT. Since 2.2 looks to be the smallest size of these tires, I suspect they should work? Any reason why I should I avoid these tires or their size? On the Ripper, I was thinking of the same GT LP5 tires, the Odyssey Aitken (2.25 size) tires, or the Odyssey Super Circuit tires (2.1 size). Why are the Super Circuit tires so expensive, and could the "foldable" bead present any problems down the line? I initially thought about getting the SE racing Cub tires, to retain the old school look on the PK, but those skin walls are not that durable, and it sucks to have to replace them because those skin walls start breaking down. Thank you!!

Might be possible to put a link in the chain to fit a slightly larger tire size in some cases (worked for my recent build). Why did the old school bmx race bikes run narrower tires on the back and wider ones on the front? It seems like the back would take more abuse and thats where the fatter tire might give a bit more cushion.
