I thought the whole idea was to keep it as a limited series? Having read the book, I understood that’s where these character’s stories end. But on the other hand, I would actually love to see them continue the show based on the real life inspirations for the characters. There’s definitely plenty of ways that the show’s plot could continue.

The other books in the series would be interesting to see adapted. Hopefully it'll be the same production team in charge if they get greenlit.

that's what i was thinking after reading it... and if they can say Season 2 is in the works, they can move the series to Drama, which apparently has a lighter field than Limited Series, and thus the show is more apt to win Emmys. at least that was what I gathered from the article. But if we get another season and I get more Hiro Sanada on my screen, I'm not going to complain.

Yep, events after Sekigahara battle was even more interesting. Toyotomi Hideyoshi's son Hideyori ( the heir ) was degraded to an ordinary daimyo, not shogun. Tokugawa Ieyasu, who was appointed as a shogun in 1603 and established the Tokugawa shogunate, attacked Osaka Castle twice in 1614 and 1615 (Siege of Osaka), forcing Yodo-dono ( Lady Ochiba ), Hideyoshi's concubine, and Hideyori, Hideyoshi's heir, to commit suicide and destroying the Toyotomi clan. They have established the world, characters in the first season. If they make season 2, Lady Ochiba and The Heir's character will become even more important with more screen time.

It doesn’t matter what was said. If a show is making money and there is value created out of nothing. Characters they didn’t even intend to be that impactful are hugely drawing interest etc (Yabu). The executives and big wigs wigs will think, either we can greenlight a new unproven project and risk $$ or we can go ahead with another season of a critically acclaimed show that people are begging for more of… They will think they should oblige and print money. It doesn’t matter if the producer or whoever of a show says “oh this is the last one I don’t see a sequel”, if there’s money in it 10 years later when everyone’s forgot and minds changed a sequel is coming! Like when I was a kid they used to say “This Halo is going to be the last one ever”. There were how many Halo games after? And toys, merchandise etc. Companies are there to make money and improve stock of investors. If they have the IP and people will likely watch because of goodwill as they liked the first season, you should expect a new season. I mean movies that really didn’t need a REMAKE not even a sequel get remade because they know people will watch it.

Every episode starts with Anjin recounting recent events to Fuji. The camera doesn't show them in the same shot but individually, in dim light. Anjin is confessing, they are in a confessional, and Fuji is best nun. Anjin's sins originate from his nightly activities. The story follows Anjin's narration. As a hatamoto by day, he supports Toranaga's governmental and political goals. As an assassin by night, he makes sure these plans are executed and ensure the peace of the realm. 10 episode action-political thriller with just enough background romatic tension for the An-ji shippers. Also in discussions with Disney to make this an Edo period tie-in to Hawkeye's MCU Ronin

Just have Fuji sama walk the Japans solving crimes with Anjin for 10 episodes and I am in.

Seriously doubt a second season will ever happen, and it really shouldn't. This was a great drama with a beginning, middle, and end. It's a satisfyingly complete piece. Let it go.

Yeah, I’m not getting a definite season 2 feeling, just a move to keep Sanada-san available just in case. It seems like they are really trying though.

We need a multiverse. Right before Yabushige gets seppuku’d, Ke Huy Quan comes blasting in from a portal stating he needs both of them. They go to the future to find present-day Maria and recruit her. Blackthorne sees all this from behind a tree and follows them. The ending has a major CGI battle, where Maria finally adopts her original name Mariko. She is about to be killed by the horde of ogres, when a missile flies through a small portal, killing the bad guy, and then we see F-35’s fly in. They decimate the enemy army. Through a portal we see a Japanese man in a suit walk through. He says he’s the first Japanese-American President. Mariko-Sama: “Father.”

We Won! And Sanada gets more work/a better $ deal! I know people are gonna complain "But the book is done!?" Yes the book is done. But Toranaga is based off of Tokugawa Ieyasu and there is plenty of real story to draw from. Blackthorn was a real person too.

Like what would Season 2 even entail? Just the lead-up to a the massive battle, the plot twist we already know about and the aftermath? I think its best to leave this Masterpiece as a single season. If they REALLY want to show an epic Samurai battle, do it as a 2-part/2 hr each mini series or a 3 hour TV movie.

Completely baseless speculation on my part. If I understand the history correctly, after the events portrayed in the Shogun story, book and TV shows, Toganawa became Shogun. A few years later, the Heir came of age. There was a war between the Heir and the Shogun. The Heir got his ass kicked. I think that could be what frames up S2. Would involve a lot of the same characters.

A cash grab implies quick and minimal effort to make more money. Sanada seems very passionate about the show, and the team that worked on it did a wonderful job. There is reason to believe that moving past the source material they could still create an awesome show. If they are able to continue the series and it’s great, is it just a cash grab? People here are being too quick to judge. Also, businesses are in it to make money. Every piece of media is created with the intent of generating revenue. Movies and shows wouldn’t exist in the scale they do now if that wasn’t the case.

Mark my word, they will do same shit to it as netflix did to Barbarian season 2. Without source material and respect for history it will be a disaster.
