The Dead Space Remake comes to us sandwiched between Callisto Protocol, a game so bad I think it made this game easier to appreciate, and the upcoming Resident Evil 4 Remake, which will likely make myself and others completely forget about it. Regardless this is the here and now and Dead Space 2023 is a pretty solid game, still has sins to count though.

Fun fact did you know you technically don't kill a necromorph. In the books or wiki it's confirmed that the body is still alive you just basically stopped it from moving to kill you

So they took inspiration from the black knight of the Monty Python film to create necromorphs?
@XymnalaSylph
@XymnalaSylph Жыл бұрын
The necromorphs are being directed by a hive mind, and when you chop off enough limbs that it isn't viable as a mobile weapon, it basically shuts it off as it isn't useful anymore and that is when it is considered 'dead' again. I like to think the necromorphs that attacked the singularity core did so under direction from the hive mind, versus the standard autopilot they have to just hunt down humans. Dr. Mercer didn't plant the hologram specifically for Isaac, he did it to lure in literally anyone that might have trusted her as the chief medical officer that still remains alive, as his own reputation is somewhat extreme. He just wants more people to experiment on. He doesn't fear Isaac, and actually reacts very impartially because he largely considers his masterpiece as unkillable and truly divine. There are the exact same number of times you get dragged in the game by tentacles as in the first game, and in the same chapters, with one exception, the final one after the final encounter with the Hunter. The Leviathan was actually a necromorph that IMPACTED the ship by launching itself from the colony, so the majority of the mass is not from the ship. The logs in the game confirm this, when they tell you of a mass hitting food storage and decompressing it and then starting to consume everyone. I imagine Food Storage is meant to airlock directly with larger supply shuttles to and from colonies for easy unloading of large cargos. Oh and the marker confusing humans is not the exact same thing as a directed intelligence. It just corrupts what they see and experience, it doesn't actually control or direct them. Other games of the series did a better job show-casing this, particularly the one on rails, Dead Space Extraction, which covered the events on the colony leading up to this game.

The launch tube makes so much possible sense it’s scary . The marker may have led to accidental or intentional destruction of it from its manipulation of both the crew or necromorphs . The most likely is that Dallas would have done it to prevent this crude from getting to his family . He tried to cut off his own limbs to prevent himself from hurting others once dead . He would definitely sabotage something that could cause their death . The last option is church members would ruin it so people like Kendra don’t take the marker away from mankind.

For Sin 62, the troops aboard the _Valor_ or at least the command staff were very much aware of what they were going up against. Both the Original and the Remake had a datapad you can find with orders explicitly confirming the presence of the Marker and hinting at the possibility of necromorphs. They were originally sent with the intention of giving Kendra and the Marker a lift while destroying the Ishimura once the mission was done.

Sin still stands. Hell, probably even more severe. I mean, if the military crew- one made by professional soldiers, armed with military grade equipment and not mining tools- knew all along they might encounter Necromorphs, how the hell did they got wipe out so easily by a dime-a-dozen slasher that Isaac has curb-stomped in droves on his own?

@@canale39youification Yeah. While no one had at least dealt with a necromorph outbreak in almost two centuries in-universe, you'd think that EarthGov troops would be afforded classified docs on how to deal with the necromorphs properly with what little data was still available.
@TresBS1
@TresBS1 Жыл бұрын
@@canale39youification Because Isaac's been told what to do and his tools can easily dismember. Trained soldiers would aim for the center of mass of their target, which wouldn't do much to a Necromorph. Assuming they were equipped with Pulse Rifles, without aiming for the limbs, the soldiers would have wasted their shots and empitied their clips quickly (Pulse rifles guzzle ammo). This is also assuming none of them panicked upon meeting the thing. It was a major point in the OG trilogy that Isaac's tools were better suited to take out Necromorphs than military weapons. Heck in the Downfall movie, this was also shown when the security team first encountered the Necromorphs and emptied multiple clips into a singular target and didn't do much until they riddled it with so many bullets it was ripped to pieces.

The last video with Nicole is different and implies she asked the Marker to stop the convergence event and the Marker listened to her. It's trying to go back to fulfill the request. Why? IDK. They grow clones for replacements for body parts, which would imply losing body parts is common place. When everything around you is one mistake from killing or maiming you, say comms go down and you can't use riglink, you need something visual to help others out. Or if you're alone and your rig malfunctions or whatever would disable a rig happens, you'd have the extra rig to keep you informed. Also also, for someone that has run into mental disorders, its not that impossible to simply perceive another person as someone else entirely, considering Isaac just experienced the traumatic shock since he had LITERALLY listened to Nicoles suicide message on repeat, I doubt he would have restarted it over and over again in the middle going like "nah, I wanna watch this part again." And the whole alien space magic voodoo mumbo jumbo eekom bokum etc. which sends fucked up signals to ur brain helps that too Also also also, the marker helping Isaac getting that SOS beacon is actually a GREAT move on its part, because this gets Isaac to trust "Nicole" and it can just conveniently sicc more necro monsters in to mess up the beacon and Isaac conveniently has to return the marker, so yeaaaaah.

8:56 pro tip for anyone in project management: ALWAYS PAD YOUR TIMELINE. You’ll look great when you finish under time… Plus, there’s a whole world of difference between an emergency fix to keep something running for the immediate future and restoring a system to full functionality where further repairs won’t be necessary for a long time. The two day estimate probably included checking every comm system component and tracking down the (then unknown) cause of the failure and eradicating the reason for the failure. In the game, Isaac is just repairing it to the “it’ll work fine for long enough” standard, not taking the system back to “like new.”

4:56 so you really do not ever pay attention to the display monitor on the front of Isaac's suit? Not only that, but each RIG have their own different interfaces in order to check either their own vitals or someone else's by pulling up their RIG ID numbers. 5:13 as a reminder that this remake is following the design and blueprints of the original Dead Space, and the purpose of the quarantine lockdown is to trap the player in a fight scenario since it's far easier to escape certain encounters and to save up on supplies by simply running away. It wouldn't be much of a survival horror if you can escape certain encounters. Hell, you can speedrun Dead Space by skipping encounters, but the quarantine lockdowns will still force Isaac to fight. 8:02 the purpose of the barricade is to keep the monsters isolated. Even without the context of Extraction, there is a massive hole on the wall where those tentacle grabbers pop out to take away victims and kill them. That was in the original, and Extraction revealed why. 8:20 inside the RIG refitter, there is an alignment table for the user to properly snug themselves inside in order to be safely fitted with a suit. However an audio log revealed that Brant Harris tossed someone inside the suit refitter improperly, thus resulting in the victim being torn and shredded in its gears. 9:44 this one i will sin, but for a different reason. How is there still one escape pod left, even though the audio logs, Extraction, and even Downfall established that Mercer jettisoned ALL the escape pods in order to strand the crew aboard the Ishimura and convert everyone into necromorphs? 10:48/11:19 in the side mission Premeditated Malpractice, it is revealed that Dr. Mercer was working on a prototype Stasis Module capable to freezing someone in place for extended periods, which explains why he sent Harris to bring more Osmium. However considering how powerful and supercharged his stasis gun is, it's reasonable to assume that he has to recharge it before it can fire again. 18:04 you still have to factor in radiation leakage in the event the missile is ruptured. So even if the warhead is disarmed, the radioactive materials inside the warhead can still spill over and anyone not in a radiation suit will be exposed to the hazardous material and die. Not to mention that those fires caused by the crash would in fact serve as the components necessary to cause the chain reaction for a detonation. 18:19 ALL CEC personnel have their names registered with RIG ID numbers for verification purposes. Being a CEC engineer, Isaac Clarke's name is displayed since he's a registered employee. Dr. Terrance Kyne was able to pull up Isaac's RIG number to give him a call. As for introductions, it's mearly a professional courtesy that everyone practices, even during times of crisis as a means to show good faith and zero hostile intentions. 19:58 since i actually tried using the hydrazine flamethrower against the hunter, it didn't burn the Hunter enough because its torso was still intact. The shuttle's engines were strong and hot enough to completely melt the Hunter down to its last molecule. So no. 22:54 Kendra Daniels has already explicited stated that her orders from EarthGov were to retrieve the marker as well as disposing of any and all potential threats and witnesses that could stop her. She has already revealed this back in Chapter 11, please pay attention.

To be fair, the marker on Aegis 7 was broken The final part of the convergence event involves the builder of the marker being assimilated, presumably to become the central identity of the brethren moon. However, this marker is 200 years old, and built by Human hands And before you bring up the moon in DS3, it had likely already assimilated its creator. It was just frozen, still alive and conscious as it was using the markers to broadcast a compulsion to "Make us whole", to free it and allow it to continue forming Nicole managed to communicate with the marker, at which point it agreed to be returned to Aegis 7, where a pedestal was built to amplify ts signal. The Marker has a Dead Space around it that repels the necromorphs, or weakens them, so as to protect itself. The dead space field is also amplified by the pedestal, silencing the infestation But more importantly, implanting the construction codes and compulsions in anyone capable of comprehending them, like - say - an engineer who's been fighting the necromorphs for hours

My headcanon, since they don’t take this route, has always been that Isaac was in denial and the Marker further screwed up his memory and logic. Isn’t it canon that the Marker feeds on grief? If not, it certainly makes one more susceptible. You can’t be manipulated if you have nothing to gain, therefore it finds ways of giving false promises for something you may be lacking, or worse, have lost. Since they never establish that Isaac always knew, the sin still exists. That’s just the way I look at it to make sense of that plot twist/hole. Still, it almost seems like that became their intentions, the way Isaac flinches when Kendra approaches, as if he was almost caught watching porn in computer class. Edit: lol, I should have finished that part of the video. He addresses that possibility. Anyway, my point still stands that it’s likely (although never directly stated) that Isaac always knew and the Marker fed on that grief as it tends to.

You know, the more I think about it I see an underlying sin in the game from a narrative standpoint. The original Dead Space and its corresponding lore tie ins (movies and prequel games) constantly showed one thing: The Marker wanted to stay on the pedestal and not to be found. It even tries to kill people who threaten to take it off a collapsing Aegis VII after the events of the Ishimura. Yet this flies in the face of what happens in the two main sequel titles where the Marker wants to bring about a Brethren Moon. In the original game it could be forgiven seeing that they never thought it would get so successful or for EA to suck Visceral’s soul out for sequels. But the remake now has the unwelcome task of trying to bridge the plot points of the sequel titles to the original game. Ultimately they try hard, but it doesn’t stick the landing. The Marker is actively trying to get the hell away from humanity like it did in the first game, even going against the cult that actually wants it to succeed in it’s apocalyptic task. Referencing Convergence a few times doesn’t fix the overlying plot hole. On a more positive note: I absolutely love the changes made to Mercer in the remake. In the original game he just seemed like some raving lunatic waiting for the first opportunity to go insane. He is still batsh*t insane in this game, but I like how they flesh him out a bit more. He may not be a smart villain, but at least he can act like it more now!

@@chrisdaughen5257 that actually makes a little bit of sense given what happens in Dead Space 2. At the end of Dead Space 2 the Marker tried to kill Issac in order to complete the Convergence Event. @@operationangel7940someone else said this already, but I'll say it again In DS 1, the marker was 200 years old, and its creator is long dead, without the creator, it can't be truly "whole" so it wanted to be destroyed, because it was imperfect In DS 2 however, the new marker's creator was still pretty much alive, and that's why it wanted to become a brethren moon And lastly, DS 3, in which we see a fully formed moon, that already went through the assimilation process

6:30 ..Yeah, that's the idea behind necromorphs, they're not living things that can be killed or headshotted, they're reanimated dead tissue, like clay they come in many shapes, forms and flavours, standard slashers with their bones enlarged rearranged into bone-swords, the gross wet sticky floor, walls, ceilings and corridors that slows you down and has mines and tentacles in it and so on etc, the longer they are in the radius and signal of a Marker any dead tissue gets to be recycled into horrors beyond our comprehension. In universe you can only dismember and stun the necros for a time until they heal/regenerate the lost limbs from dead tissue and get up to continue to come after you again exactly like the regenerator and hunter in the game later, but in game dismembering the necros just leaves them stunned on the ground like they just died again fr fr, but that's just gameplay reasons, tho I'd have liked the idea of biblically accurate necromorphs as the hardest/unique special difficulty of the game. 19:24 Sooo-.... if even a single necromorph escaping will cause the literal death of humanity.... what about that necromorph Hammond just launched into space using the only remaining escape pod? .... if everything gets destroyed that single necromorph according to him will cause the death of everyone on earth or whoever finds and picks that escape pod up thinking it's some poor survivor just drifting in space and bringing it aboard and opening it, not knowing it has a necromorph trapped inside and then that single necromorph would start killing and making another ship get infested with necros :smollconcern:

Man discussions on horror are still ignorant. Horror isn't pure scariness. You don't need to be scared or jump for something to be horrific. Dead Space objectively has good horror, and I find it impossible that some instances didn't scare you at least a few times on your first playthrough. Visceral did horror research well enough to guarantee at least a few frightening moments from anyone who played the original game. Remake might be less scary, but it still has its moments too.

My headcanon is: The USM Valor did not come to help the Ishimura, it came to destroy the Ishimura after they maybe picked up the Marker. It piggybacks of the given circumstance that the nuclear warhead on the Valor was being armed. And they picked up the Escape Pod with Chen on it as possible Intel. Sin 1: He does give lots of technical suggestions and breaks up arguments, while I agree he should comment on more things, his added ability to speak gives him greater agency, and makes him feel like a competent engineer. Sin 2-5, 10-11, 31-34, 39-40, 45-46, 49, 52, 56-57, 62, 65, 67, 69, 71, 73: Fair Sin 6: Could just be the automated systems, but due to broken parts of the ship, it was fucked up in some capacity, nitpick much? Sin 7: Well, given how the gun works this actually makes some sense, why would you need a scope on a small spaceship? The ammo used also moves at a relatively slow velocity, as it’s designed to not break ship walls, meaning three barrels allows it to keep lethality by focusing on one area. The massive design is also obviously just to make sure it has the massive ammo capacity it needs. Nitpick. Sin 8: You can tell how you feel, other people can’t, the rig tells them how beat up you are, it’s pretty simple. Sin 9: I doubt killing the problem is the only solution, simply removing it seems to by the choice method, if someone got the flu on a spaceship it would be worth noting, as weaknesses would be lowered in space, also, this lockdown doesn’t apply to the vents, which is how the Necro’s get around. Sin 11 (2): Most people aren’t wearing rig suits, so I’d imagine punching an electric coil like that would electrify your body and potentially be lethal. This is a null point. Sin 12: What you said is actually lore accurate, you explained yourself why it works, Necro’s are immortal. Sin 12(2): Could’ve just…moved the camera placement? I’m somewhat confused here. Sin 13: The Hivemind can coordinate Necromorphs as others have explained, this isn’t a massive leap. Sin 14/15: Fair. He does have thruster boots though so maybe that played a role in his weird turn. Sin 16: Nothing says the suit isn’t really being taken off, we don’t actually know what’s going on in there as is. But the other person dying inside there is curious. Sin 17: Issac is refereed to as an extremely intelligent individual. Sin 18: Fair but nitpicky. Sin 19: There is, CEC was also after the marker, so yeah, they’re both after the marker. Sin 20: Fair, but marker influence makes people act irrationally. Sin 21: You collect higher clearance as you go, it isn’t a requirement to beat the game either (I’m pretty sure). Sin 22: I’m not qualified to judge this. Sin 23: I’d imagine it’s just due to the hull being unable to deal with the larger meteors, it’s moreso the subtraction of mass that helps. Sin 24: Mercer wants to experiment on people, he can just Nicole to draw in more people. Sin 25: He did. Sin 26: This is more of a throwback then anything, but Issac doesn’t tend to speak unless spoken too, so he isn’t actually that talkative by most standards. Sin 27: Both fair and not really, Mercer likes using the Hunter to do his dirty work and it shows, so while yes your method is more efficient, he likely just wouldn’t do it because he like using the Hunter more. Sin 28: Air would still be a problem, hydroponics makes air. Sin 29: Nitpick, gassing him still forces him out, it achieves a similar goal to killing him, as the likelihood of Issac surviving is still rather low. Sin 30: What? What the fuck? The hell do you expect plants to grow out of? Concrete? Sin 35: They grabbed him multiple times in DS1 as well…what’s your point? Sin 36: Hammond could’ve been near some Necro’s, and trying to stay quiet. Sin 37: Came from outside the ship via the colony so yeah. Sin 38: To make food resupply easier… Sin 41: Why wouldn’t he buy it? He thinks she’s alive. Sin 42: Radio for help so the marker can infect more. Sin 43: He was still clearly useful to her, better to not give the man a mental breakdown in the middle of a very life or death situation. Sin 44: Something like the Leviathan, also, Necromorphs can survive in space. Sin 47: Mostly because I’m willing to bet he figured it was software and hardware issues, not just hardware issues. Also estimations don’t often meet reality. Sin 48: Nitpick much? Sin 50: The Ishimura would likely shut down entirely without it. Sin 51: Battle grade ship, it’s more sturdy than most. Sin 53: Heard it over comms mayhaps? Or due to his rig-link he happened to see his name. Sin 54: Marker influence is a bitch, but part 2 the electrical field killed them, not the actual core, they likely didn’t even touch the core. Sin 55: No, but it would likely obliterate Comms. Sin 58: The Hivemind exists specifically to kill off survivors and act as a localized command unit, also its massive, obviously the marker wants to be near a massive creature that it can assimilate. Sin 59: The engines of a massive spaceship are…stronger then a flamethrower, fuck man that sure seems out there. Sin 60: The Hivemind wanted the marker…what’s the point of this? Sin 61: Issac would’ve known she was going to backstab him then due to a lack of comms. Sin 63: Marker influence, also, because she doesn’t think Issac will live for very long after this. Sin 64: The marker wasn’t on the Ishimura…at least not at this particular point, it was being taken away. Sin 66: Being planet bound means the Marker can cause convergence, as it needs to, from what I can tell, have a base that doesn’t collapse in on itself. A ship would implode and be unable to properly facilitate such a thing. Also, more bodies on Aegis. Sin 68: Why…is this a sin…? Sin 70: I doubt she was thinking about sending that to him, given how well she's on a planet with a shitton of Necro’s. Sin 72: Given how it would be denied convergence this is understandable, but if it’s in Earthgovs possession they’ll be able to relocate it, or even destroy it. Sin 74: New players wouldn’t expect it though, what’s your point? Accuracy rating of 45.9%. Not a good score.

Did you... miss all the patients Mercer had in the diagnostic room? He was luring any survivors he could to conduct experiments. Apparantly, people onboard the Ishimura trusted Nicole a whole lot. So that implies her recording bringing Isaac to him was incidental. You could sin that.

I was hoping for Forspoken, but I guess the 1 hour video that it demands for all the sins is a daunting task. Great video as usual, of course.

While there are some changes and additions that I have mixed feelings about, overall it was a decent remake and impressive that EA managed to stop themselves from screwing something up for a change.

Don't trust them, we are talking about EA, they let the Game be this good because it was a cheap way to earn trust For the players, they will ruin it eventually and kill the franchise again

Not to 🤓 emoji myself but the USM Valor was sent to assist Kendra as her exfil path, and the commander of the ship was also aware of the marker and that it would cause some sort of hostile life to occur (but not all that descriptively). Earthgov was completely aware of what markers caused and thats why the system was under quarantine. IIRC
@silenceundying
@silenceundying Жыл бұрын
That makes even less sense. If they know what they are dealing with, are expecting hostiles, and can see from the escape pod arriving that they are dealing with hostile life forms, why would they NOT be prepared to handle a single enemy?
@soupgirl1871
@soupgirl1871 Жыл бұрын
@@silenceundying I'll remind you that they have no idea how to kill a necromorph, and just like the flood in halo, one of them can infect an entire planet. The Valor was sent there to assist Kendra, that doesn't mean they'll expect a sudden outbreak or there to be enemies, nor would they know such classified Intel such as the marker
@MustacheMan98
@MustacheMan98 Жыл бұрын
@@silenceundying Its listed in the text log you find as to what I could assume is the highest level of “classified” and on a strict need to know basis. They also knew about its psychological effects. Its also said somewhere that a lone necromorph or multiple for that matter outside of a certain distance of a marker loses its ability to animate/function without the signal; it was “dead” as they picked up the pod but when they got closer to the Ishimura where the marker was, slasher Chen reanimated.
@silenceundying
@silenceundying Жыл бұрын
@@soupgirl1871 So you're saying that a military vessel aligned to the same faction as the infiltrator they are sent to help would have no idea what that infiltrator would be dealing with? And on top of this, they'd retrieve a necromorph from an escape pod and do nothing with it? Let's play into the spy theme a little. If Kendra is relaying information to Earthgov and the Valor, they'd know how to kill a necromorph. Even without that Intel, it's a safe bet that the military would easily shoot it down before it could do anything. Reanimated human bodies would be terrible hosts, we see how easy it is shoot limbs off of them, and simple gunfire would be enough to kill them. Also, pulse rifles can fire explosives. Pretty sure we know what explosives do. The comparison to the Flood from Halo, another universe, wouldn't really matter because the Flood is a separate entity entirely.
@silenceundying
@silenceundying Жыл бұрын
@@MustacheMan98 You'd say that a text log you can find based on an assumption of details that may or may not be classified sent by Earthgov to a military vessel to assist an infiltrator wouldn't be apprised of the situation? "They also knew about its psychological effects". If they already KNEW about this, then they would be prepared for it because they know the Ishimura has a marker in it, hence why they sent Kendra. "Its also said somewhere". If the information on the marker is known, then the military would know about necromorphs and marker signals too. Like I said to Soup Girl, the Valor is a military vessel. They'd be able to kill a single necromorph. No military would leave a threat unobserved or unguarded. They have guns, and these guns can fire explosives.

Counter sin. The ship may auto cut sensitive information from messages being sent out. I mean thats what the navy does with letters sent home, but this is the future and i could see that process being automated by either a simple algorythm or some type of focused AI

Finally, EA gets something right. Now, let’s see the 3 things they’ll fuck up next. A good game from them does not come without consequence, as we know. Also I actually appreciate that the game gives most guns for free if you explore and are patient enough, it’s pretty cool.
