Superman is considered the greatest superhero, but his movies are often full of sins. The latest, Man of Steel, is no exception.
Have a good Thanksgiving (if you're American, I guess). We'll be back next Tuesday to fellowship with you over a new sins video.
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins would you like to see covered? Merch: teespring.com/stores/cinemasi...

Anyone ever noticed superman snapped zods neck to the right, the same side that the humans were on, so wouldn't the laser be driven towards them and killing them, good thing zods heat vision shut off/ stopped right as his neck was turning..so yeah that should be a sin XD

Ya I always thought superman wanted to kill him but couldn't because he would also kill the humans but in the end chooses to sacrifice a few humans to kill Zod. ***** 1. It wouldn't have mattered to Zod if it were Mars or Earth because both were in need of intense terraforming. 2. Yes, but you could clearly see he was affected by that single family, but not the thousands of others he saw dying in that scene. Don't get me wrong, I liked Man of Steel, and I don't entirely understand why it gets so much hate, but there were just two things which I noticed and made me raise my eyebrow.

themanclaw2 1. Actually No, both did not need intense terraforming, Earth needed a bit because kryptonians struggle at first, then adopt, zod hated that and wanted to change into this will, and the yellow sun shines brighter on earth than on mars, its such a small planet . 2. There is no single scene which shows "thousands of others he saw dying in that scene." People just exaggerate at Man of steel destruction. He was affected by single family, because he finally knew what he had to do to stop zod's death permanently

Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars are the terrestrial (rock) planets. Venus is very hot, and has acid rain. It would be difficult to colonize, but not impossible for a super advanced alien race. It's almost the same size as Earth, closer to the sun, and it could be colonized with no resistance from native life.

LapDog95 The fact that he COULD lift Zod's head up to snap his neck when he couldn't stop him from turning his head to burn the family makes the entire thing stupid and pointless -- he could have just sat down on Zod and forced his head straight up, sparing the family of such a brutal moment. He could have also broken Zod's back in that position, which would have immediately put the kibosh on his attack, not to mention left him in debilitating pain for quite a while, which would have been more than enough time for Superman to figure out what to do with him now that he's no longer an imminent threat. Not to mention, couldn't Zod just turn his eyes and laser beam the family when Superman had him in the headlock? I mean, Zod CAN see the family is over there through the heatbeams, so wouldn't it make more sense to just tilt his eyes a few degrees and get the job done?

Seriously put someone in a head lock and see if you can stop them from moving their head without fear of snapping their neck. Supes didn't want to kill zod, he left him no choice. Also in this iteration of superman it appears while using his heat beams he can't move his eyes as the blast is so intense you can see veins popping out from the eyes and when he's done he sorta shakes it off so that leads me to believe it is uncomfortable to use. Either way that's a bit of a nit pick dude.
@HeatForce
@HeatForce 9 жыл бұрын
@kha Ngo, dude kryptonian heat vision can lobotomize beings like doomsday. That said supes has killed before. If you saw the theatrical version of superman 2 you would have seen supes break zod's hand with a smile, throw him several dozen feet into an ice wall and plummet to unknown depths. The movie essentially leaves off with superman killing the kryptonians. That said hindsight is always 20/20. The question is will batman v superman develope his character.

Zod's ability to adjust quickly to sensory overload made sense to me. Like he said in the movie, he's a trained soldier with a disciplined mind. He's probably experienced some chaotic battlefields and been trained to cope with Krypton's equivalent of a flashbang grenade. You know what got me, though? At the end, the people Zod was threatening to kill were to the right of the heat vision beams Zod was gradually bringing closer to them... Clark snaps Zod's neck by rotating it quickly to the right. In the time between Clark started rotating Zod's head and the time when he'd wrenched it around enough to sever the spinal cord, wouldn't this have swung the eye beams over the short distance necessary to kill the humans?

Film directors can keep giving us the worst movies ever that don't make sense as long as there is a lot of destruction & devastation. We suspend our disbelief as soon as we walk into the theater, I'll give you that, but when you kill people off, just for shock value, or when Zod is able to control his powers in seconds when it took Clark years, you are asking your audience to be complete morons, and I am NOT ok with that!

Well... if there are aliens out there, they would most likely look similar to us for numerous reasons. Since most of the primitive lifeforms such as bacteria and amoebas rely on very specific molecules to survive in various environments and more complex organisms have evolved from those primitive lifeforms, they have to follow the same biological guidelines, such as synthetising proteins for structure and enzymatic activity and using glucose as the main source of energy for metabolism. Also, it is an evolutionary advantage to have every sensorial organ concentrated near the front part of the body. Nearly all vertebrates have evolved this way. Assuming that the evolutionary process works the same way on Krypton and other planets that could support life, there is no doubt that aliens would look a lot like us. Although I agree that it's quite a coincidence to see Kryptonians looking identical to humans... but then again, it's a fictional movie coming from a comic book series that's been around since 1938, so should we really care?

Did you see Lex Luther mix his DNA with a kryptonian to make a super villain? pure gold that it is.... Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, we should use that in BvS... without improvement. and a LOTR cave troll too, it's been 14 years since 'Fellowship' nobody will notice it's the same cave troll with a few spikes added.

Even if he's "inexperienced" he should be mature and be able to use common sense, he's 33. He should know that the kryptonians are after him explicitly, and should've led them away from a highly populated area to fight them. The final battle with Zod as well as the fight in Smallville could have and should have taken place in the middle of nowhere to decrease casualties and destruction of property. Also, the reason Marvel has better movies is because they have better characters, everyone in Man of Steel was bland and emotionless 70% of the time, which makes them uninteresting. In Avengers and Guardians, the characters have varying personalities and attitudes, that make them enjoyable.

You have to consider that back then the demands were no so high, cinema was yet maturing. Nowadays we have seen everything we had to, it is difficult to make a movie without a couple of cliches. You have to use the 80's goggles to properly judge the movies. I am not saying that the older movies were better but that it is difficult to compare them. However what I know for a fact, is that the (positive) impact the older movies had on the public were way stronger than MoS, which has obviously polarized public opinion.
@ScholarVisual
@ScholarVisual 9 жыл бұрын
Stelio Macumbe Ok Ill give you that. The first Christopher Reeves superman movie was more ground breaking for its time then MOS was for our time. ITs kind of the same thing with the New Turtles movie. As bad as this new TMNT movie was. I look back at the old ones and its definitely better. Once again, I tried to watch Secret of the Ooze and it was unbearable.
@AndyAce83
@AndyAce83 9 жыл бұрын
You stating that Man of Steel was better than the Christopher Reeve movies are so wrong it makes every other movie opinion you have in the future completely irrelevant. Man of Steel is the worst Superman movie ever made. Quest for Peace and Superman Returns are epic and mind-blowing master pieces compared to this piece of you know what. First of the story is stupid with pointless and unexplained disregard for the original Superman storyline. Secondly most of the movie is just destruction build around something like a plot. Thirdly, its nothing more annoying than a movie that has lots of potential but effs up every step of the way. There was alot of interesting ideas here that presented in a better way may have worked, but ist just a blender movie where everything just get spewed out with no explanation other than "because". I could list more, but I have fortunately forgotten most of that movie and do not plan on watching it again. Here is hoping the next one will be better.
@ScholarVisual
@ScholarVisual 9 жыл бұрын
Andy Ace I here you. Its just the slap stick comedic style of the old superman movies are just unbearable to me. I like the more serious tone. And you complain about the destruction of buildings. But if two God like beings were fighting thats probably whats going to happen. And thats why I liked this new superman. It almost gave you a realistic look on how much damage to super god like figures could do to a city if they fight. Like Imagine if Darksied and Apolocyse got in a fight. Almost all of America would be in ruins. The old movies didnt really give you that since of Power that superman should have. Christopher Reeves is more of an iconic superman then Henry Cavil. But watching those old movies now is like looking at a costume party.
@AndyAce83
@AndyAce83 9 жыл бұрын
Alvin Elmore Yes, the new movie tries to be "dark reimagening" of Superman. It doesnt work. Superman Returns tried the same thing. It didnt work that well either but it was far better than Man of Steel. Have you watched Superman Returns? I hated that movie the first time I saw it. Then I saw Man of Steel and decided to give Superman Returns a new try. Wow, it was soo much better. Sometimes to appreciate a movie you have to watch something so much worse to understand see it for what it is worth. The Reeve movies are campy, but it had the same tone as many of the DC stories as well. Superman, like Batman, have a dark and a light tone depending on what time it was publicized. Darkness is something "new" to most comics. Campy light heartedness has often been the norm. To me, "forced darkness" is a stupid gimmick that is suppose to make a movie more "intelligent". It doesnt always work. The Reeve movies has a comedic touch. Lex Luthor is portrayed more as a narcissist than a genius, but that works. The almost satanic Zod in the second Superman also works. Its not that the movies don´t take themselves serious at times, but they also allow themselves to be entertaining. Have a change of pace. I think you need to watch more old movies. It is an acquired taste. I don´t know how old you are, but I fear it may be to late now. You see, I watch Reeves movies when I was a child. When you are a child you are more forgiving to bad effects etc. So now when I am older I am more forgiving to those kinds of things. Some friends of mine can not watch old movies because of that. To bad for them, they are loosing out. The God fight and the destruction of buildings in and of itself is not the problem. The problem is that there isnt any "save the cat" moments where Superman tries to save people during the fight. Superman isnt about the fight its about saving people. Zod is the destruction, Superman is the savior. In this movie both where just destruction. Also, the main problem, is the context. I for one had noting invested in the "epic" fights. I had stopped caring a long time before that started. A good movie isnt just about good effects, its about the story. Effects are just a way of telling that story. Man of Steel chose to mix up on the Superman mythos (which is fine) but did it in a bad way. If they had played it safe (not changed the mythos) we as audience may have had an easier time liking and caring about the characters cuz they are already known to us. But since they decided to mix it up that puts a lot of demands for character and story development. Unfortunately, the script writer and/or the director didnt have the skills to pull that off. What we then got was a bunch of good "dark ideas" that became just wisshywasshy effect nonsense.

To be fair. Zod said that he trained his whole life honing his senses as a warrior, which caused his quick adjustment to Earth's conditions when taking it all in. Superman was untrained and had to pretty much force himself to adjust without any experience....Whether or not you think that explanation is horseshit is up to you, but they did try to explain it.

Zod is as powerful as Superman, meaning that if he didn't die, then please tell me who was going to stop Zod from killing whomever he chose? Did you know that a black hole isn't some phenomena that sucks in everything in the universe? It can and will suck up anything that's within it's gravitational pull (much like planets or stars) but anything out of that pull is perfectly fine. If the universe worked the way you think, space would have been nothing a long time ago. That was a relatively small black hole, so it's not really a threat "the whole solar system," nor the rest of Metropolis.
@Achilles8472
@Achilles8472 10 жыл бұрын
it would have to be reallly small actually to such up just the city. Calculations have been made and it was surmised that a blackhole the size of your hand would suck up earth, if it was on it. So this would need to be an enourmously small fraction of even a centimeter.

Zod was Krypton’s greatest fighter.. so the mere fact that Jor El was able to kill him was luck anyways.. The Kryptonians actually can’t sustain broken bones or paralysis while on Earth.. hence man of steel... while the neck snap was lazing writing the scene was more reflective of a sentimental mercy killing that had to occur while Zod was exhausted and “blinded” by his hate meanwhile Superman was blinded by his love..

Meaning? Superman killing Zod because he thought he had no other choice isn't meaningful. That part was sinned because there were alternatives to stopping Zod without killing him, which would have made way more sense since Superman doesn't kill people.
