#PaperMario #TTYD is, in retrospect, probably one of my favorite games of all time. There's this sense of timelessness, being made during a time where the fantasy of the Super Mario world meets the technology of the modern day, where battles could still be classic yet innovative at the same time. I enjoyed the first Paper Mario because it reminded me a lot of this game, which I feel repeats the process but refines it, visually, musically and in its dialogue. It's just fun, man.

Fun fact: In this game, the Merlon issue is actually addressed. THere's this one guy, I think in Rogueport sewers, who mentions that there's some ancient race/clan where people are named for their professions. So, this Merlon is a different Merlon from the original Paper Mario, but is from the same clan-I-guess, and has the same specialty - that being upgrading your partners.

But, Merlon from Paper Mario 64 didn’t upgrade your partners, you upgraded them with super blocks you found in the different locations and in the sewers. Merlon in the original acted as a “where the hell do I go next guide”

Fun Fact: Petalburg is not the only Pokemon reference in this game. Chapter one has items called the "Sun stone" and the "Moon stone" that and during the Grodus boss fight at the end of the game, he uses attacks literally named,"Flamethrower, Ice beam, and Thunderbolt."

Cool fact about thousand Year Door. Those cursed chests ARE the four heroes who fought the Shadow Queen and hid the crystal stars, just after they beat her, she cursed them to be trapped, and the only thing keeping them safe from the curse was the Crystal Stars themselves. But they had to hide them so they wouldn't be used to revive her anyways. So the reason the chests "curse" Mario is because while they're twisted evil spirits, at heart they still are heroes that want to help the next potential person who could defeat the Shadow Queen.

I loved the bit where you called Ms Mowz the persona 5 mouse xD It's true she technically is a dictionary definition of a phantom thief. She is the female owner of the Badge Shop in Rogueport and has a secret identity of a badge hunter where she goes off to collect badges while wearing a mask. I also love how her attire resembles Panthers from persona 5 a bit. Either way great video looking forward to the next game you sin :D

Fun fact: Mario’s greeting animation can crash the game if you talk to certain NPCs in Rogueport and then avoid encounters entirely until you enter Petalburg for the first time.

19:46 I think its got something to do with the “objectives” grubba gives you as well. Like you can be “impenetrable” but that means nothing if you can only charge at someone. Winning the fight only makes them retain their rank. And other fighters do get different objectives than mario, since we see with the replacement fighters later.

Let’s be honest here, TTYD is one of the greatest games of all time! It was clear a lot of love and passion was put into these characters, the worlds, and the stories! Games like TTYD don’t come out everyday.

About Koops's dad. This one is way too vague for a kids' game but the Crystal Stars have the ability to influence life and death in limited capacities. The Curse Chests, Prince Mush, Grubba, TEC, Cortez, and even the Final Boss were directly impacted by this power.

4:58 It is heavily implied that the Curse Guys in the Black Chests were the Four Heroes from 1000 Years Ago. They must have been cursed to also Curse the one who freed them. That is why they made it beneficial.

42:49 This is actually an error in the English version. In all other version, the choice to not attack is placed above attack, but in English, the choices are flipped, but their connecting dialogue isnt. Thats why Grodus acts like Mario wants to attack, even though he is doing what Grodus said, wheras if you say "attack" (which is actually Don't Attack in other versions) he tells Mario to stop his blubbering. This isnt a sin for the script, its a sin for the localization team who somehow missed this.

Mario RPGs aren't Smash or Mario Kart games, they don't reuse locations. Just be happy Lady Bow and Parakerry made cameos.

I was waiting for this one, and now that it's here, I love it. I also love how Charrii did the same high-pitched Toad voice for multiple characters and the stuffed-up, whiny voice for Koops that Arin did all throughout the Grumps' playthrough. I agree that this game could've very easily been rated T though for numerous reasons

what i like about that series it how it ended up as a complete departure from the original, but still managed to remain consistent and tell its own story. honestly, i doubt i will ever see koops the same way again

Having the Yoshi partner out the majority of the time is a pretty neat way to inflate the sin counter. 3:36 Dunno the book Frankly is reading, but it looks like a landscape map that he's reading upside down. About the little Yoshi knowing to do a lotta stuff when it was just born: Some animal are already born with a developed brain. Whales, for example, already swim when they come out of their mothers. Maybe this is what happens to Yoshis. Or it was just trapped in the egg, like in SMW, Idk

5:09 there is a lore reason. The treasure chests contain the souls of the original heros that defeated the shadow queen the first time and helped to hide the stars. However there soul was cursed to be put in the chests forced to curse the people that open them. By calling it a curse when it helps you they give you aid while not breaking the rules.

Same here. I haven’t played the game in 7 years after struggling to beat Grodus for the most part only to THEN deal with Bowser and Kammy with less health, FP and items to spare, which lead to me ragequitting for what was supposed to be a short while but of course- I moved and so did time 😤 I miss playing it tho... I’ve been wanting to complete it since.

@@Embyreal Yeah it's an obscure strat that the game doesn't hint at whatsoever, but it's a really good one. The strat that me and many others went with was getting enough exp to level up after the battle, which will also work

If there was any one game I WISHED was ported to Switch or something, it would be this. It's the only (old) Paper Mario I've yet to play, and everyone has almost unanimous praise for it. I never had a GameCube, I'd love to see this game get a port so I could play it for myself.
