With the impending release of The Incredibles 2, we decided it was finally time to go looking for sins in the last Brad Bird Pixar film, Ratatouille. It's about a rat chef, but it's also really excellent, but also full of sins.
Thursday: Animated sins.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

Sin: to make Remy’s soup Remy has to make the saucier’s original soup, linguini’s ingredients, and then make Remy’s ingredients
@aalamahmad25
@aalamahmad25 Ай бұрын
Well Remy used to read all of Gusteau recipes and they simply make his dishes as said during the training montage by Colette to "follow the recipe". So the Saucier would mostly likely be making one of Gusteau's soup and Remy probably saw all the things Linguini threw in, even skipping them wouldn't change the taste that much as it was like a leek and some garlic plus water.

Ratatouille is officially 15 years old! I remember seeing it with my sister Cara One of the best inspirational movies Iv ever seen by Brad Bird Amazing animation and good voice work by Patton Oswalt, Jeanine Garafalo, Ian Holm, and Brad Garrett Made me glad I loved food so much Earned Oscar nominations for Original Screenplay, Score, Sound Mixing, and Sound Editing Stinks the video game was so short but it was fun They actually made a restaurant attraction at Epcot center and featured it as a playable feature in Kingdom Hearts 3 The film is a reminder to slow down and appreciate things Change is possible and is nature...the part that we can influence Having a say in our own story is essential Shows the inter workings of the kitchen too; the long hours put in, the imbalance of genders on the line, along with the egos that come with and anyone aspiring to be a chef can achieve their dreams We can learn to appreciate new talent and shouldn't underestimate fresh newcomers Many artists' work=immortality and it's rare a movie pays attention to the importance of a critic When it comes to cooking and critiquing it it's not personal grudge it's more about the passion making it an art Doug Walker really liked the atmosphere, the beautiful shots of Paris, digging into the rat's psyche, and the final speech being so thought provoking One of the best movies of 2007

1:36 in all fairness i believe that documentary was just presenting the "dramatic" version of the story: Gusteau dying of depression after Ego took away one of his stars, which took him a lifetime to achieve. If you think about it Ego had a long time grudge against Gusteau and i seriously DOUBT that was the first time he had visited Gusteau s restaurant. He probably tried to take him down a couple of times before, but couldnt. Not that Ego liked Gustaeu s cuisine, but he probably used to find it "Average" or "edible". In my opinion Gusteau must have had some serious health issues by the time Ego came to his restaurant for the last time, and so, Gusteau couldnt achieve the same level of quality he had before on his meals, and so Ego saw the perfect opportunity to take down Gusteau, and then wrote his review, which took away one of Gustau s stars. Then Gusteau died and people thought that it was because he suffered a severe deppresion after Ego took his fifth star. You know, Ego was a villianesque figure, and im sure people liked to blame him for Gustaeu s death. In my opinion, Gustaeu had been terminally sick since way before Ego came to his restaurant for the last time. So it was his ill condition what killed Gusteau, not some oversensitive reaction to a bad review

Remember though that it was called a scathing review, and it’s understandable why. Ego said, and I’m quoting the critic directly here, “Gusteau has finally found his rightful place in history right alongside another equally famous chef: Monsieur Boyardee.” All I know about him is that he is not a five star chef, so comparing Gusteau to him? “Broken hearted death“ indeed!

Alright guys, time for all of you to chill tf out. "Nonetheless" wasn't necessarily used incorrectly in the original comment, but it didn't quite fit the punchline properly. (The punchline wasn't even that good.) And if we want to talk about grammar, how about the dangling particple? "let rats into my kitchen and cook my food" means the subject is the person who has let rats into their kitchen and that same person is cooking their own food. The correct sentence would be "Ratatouille taught me to let rats into my kitchen because they would cook my food." As for a fix on the punchline, "Long story short, I got the black plague." would fit much more, as the subject is not yet dead but is suffering enough to write a shitty youtube comment that will get them about a day of ego-stroking from a couple hundred of people liking said comment.

4:46 Based off the rim on the cambro, it's a quart, two at most. The pot, in comparison to Linguine is, at the very least, five gallons (which, props to him for slinging it like he did). It would definitely raise the fluid level, but not likely catastrophically. The letter/will in 11:20 suggests Gusteau gave Skinner his image rights 12:33 sneakers notorious for having felt on the soles are definitely not nonslip or safe for the slippery locale of a professional kitchen.

Ego gave Linguini a heads-up because he said he wanted to give him, a rookie chef, a sporting chance to impress him, a high-standard critic who is very rarely ever impressed. Given his level of influence on the restaurant's future, as well as his confidence from his first review, he thought it fair to warn Linguini that he'd soon be facing a powerful opponent that could spell his doom. And how dare you not remove a sin for Ego's final review, that speech was gold.

Really. France is very much into protecting individual privacy. Drones in public areas are also highly illegal for this. We here in the US are used to being watched at all times, and it's strange in France to feel so much more free, not because I want to go committing crimes, but rather because it's so strange to not be treated like a criminal without doing wrong. In France, it is also EXTREMELY difficult to fire employees, which is good for employees who do work had, but sucks when you've got someone slacking because slacking isn't enough reason to fire. Still, people there generally like the security.

6:09 You're seriously misunderstanding "the central premise of the movie." It's NOT that "anyone can cook." The true premise is that "not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere." Sin is invalid.

And this was clearly addressed in Ego's amazingly well-written speech at the end. I was wondering they would take a few sins off for that monologue. Shame he didnt even address it, and completely skipped it.

There is no true premise. Just opinion. Your quote isn't all of a sudden more valid than any other premise by any other audience member. It's all in what an individual interprets.

SuperUnunquadium Um, no, you're objectively wrong for two reasons: (1) The movie clearly intended the message to be "not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere," and saying that a work's meaning is not what the author intended and communicated but whatever pops into the head of an audience member is just ridiculously egotistical (yes, you can read other meanings and applications into works, but that doesn't mean that the author's intent isn't the primary meaning, and to say that some random reader has just as much control over a work's meaning as the author is basically a form of piracy, hijacking the rights to control the work's meaning away from the author just because you want it to mean what you want it to mean even though it's the author's speech and not yours)---you don't like it when people twist your words and say that they mean what you don't intend, so how dare you inflict such wrongs upon others; and (2) even if you're egotistical enough to believe that authors have no rights to determine the meaning of their own works, CinemaSins was clearly talking about the intended message of the movie (since the whole point of that sin was that the movie was contradicting its own message), which it got wrong. So yes, Char Rar's quote is more valid because it's not actually Char Rar's quote but the film's quote and is given the interpretation it was clearly intended to have in context, just like if I want to prove that Politician X supports law Y, an in-context quote from Politician X talking about law Y is more valid than someone's misinterpretation of his statements out of context. Of course, if you were consistent in your "death of the author" beliefs, you'd say that my statement was actually agreeing with you because that's what you'd like it to say and thank me for my agreement. Which is why (aside from basic human decency) this sort of attitude is so dangerous: meaningful dialogue is impossible unless everyone attempts to give all forms of speech, including artistic speech, the meaning that their authors intended to convey (again, you can say, "hey, this work also has this other application that the author didn't intend," but you have to recognize the author's meaning as primary and all other applications as merely incidental).

The opening theme is the French national anthem, which is INCLUDED in the 1812 overture. It was written almost a century prior. How do you know the context of the 1812 overture but not know that it includes the French anthem?

I think the chef dying was because his pride was so high, and was probably losing costumers and getting criticism, even if it's probably not so much to DIE, he probably had immense pride, and it plummeted and broke his heart.
