I'm a geologist and I can say with certainty that it would NOT be felt on the east coast. The complex geology of the Rockies makes that impossible. And- a 9.6 hitting San Francisco is also not possible. Earthquakes over 9 are rare and only occur at subduction zones- events called a megathrust earthquake. Seattle could see a 9+ quake someday- the Cascadia subduction zone is locked and overdue for a big one. Worst case scenario for LA and San Francisco is a large-scale rupture of the fault, with a magnitude of around 8.0. A tsunami is possible, although not very likely, and it would not be nearly as big as the one shown- which is exaggerated. A wave that big would only happen after a megathrust event, or if a large volcano or mountain undergoes sector collapse.

I don't know if anyone else noticed but at 14:43 when he went to add 10 additional sins for Blake and the 2 British brother surviving all kinds of unlikely things throughout the movie, only 1 sin was added to the Sin counter and it wasn't until the following sin that the 10 sins were added.

You missed the biggest one of the movie. The San Andreas faultline is a transform (or lateral / strike slip) fault, meaning it slides sideways against itself, not up or down. That means it doesn't displace a large body of water the way a convergent fault does, and thus isn't capable of spawning a massive tsunami like in this film.

Yeah it really bothered me that Dwayne's character not only abandoned his duty to los anglees rescue but also technically hijacks that rescue chopper for personal reasons...during a massive emergency and natural disaster and nothing happens to him... not too mention multiple counts of theft and looting. this is like if firefighters just suddenly abandoned fighting the wildfire and or evacuating people then stole several local vehicles and or rescue helicopters to go save their individual families two counties over.

I suppose she pulled the glass out of that dude’s leg because they weren’t near a hospital or the hospital was destroyed, but normally you don’t pull the object out. Leaving it in prevents the bleeding from worsening, especially if the object is in the leg (femoral artery). It also prevents damage that happens from pulling an object back out. Infection and such can be taken care of later. Bleeding to death is harder to fix.

All jokes aside I watched this when I was much younger and the death scenes, especially the chef on fire in the restaurant, stayed with me for a LONG time, and that old couple in the tsunami is heartbreaking. The special effects are amazing and this movie was, frankly, terrifying to young me (even tho I don't live anywhere near the US). Now I almost never watch disaster movies. Edit: it wasn't actually that long ago, about 3-4 years (I wasn't that young but it feels like I was). I'm sorry if I exaggerated a bit.

The year this came out, my mom's last sibling died. She was the only one left..since we have friends in CA, I took her and a friend. The movie was so over the top, but the special effects and story was like a rollercoaster ride. They had a great time. My mom noted that the only special effect missing was The Rock without his shirt. The movie helped snap her out of her funk.

Just re-watched this, The Day After Tomorrow and 2012. Not only are you at the top of your game here these are actually hilarious, you were kind on the sins. Between the 3 of these films I'd say there is close to a million sins each. But again these films are why I love this channel!!! :)

Helicopters are significantly harder to fly than fixed wing aircraft so many rotor pilots often start out learning flight basics in planes. Even if it's only basic flight lessons it's easier for them to get comfortable with radio communications, navigation, engine gauges, and flight surfaces in a plane where it's far more stable. However, I do agree that if the Rock wanted my stolen truck I'd give it to him, hell if he wanted my actual paid for truck I'd give it to him.

Here's a missed sin that I couldn't get past - he dives out of the boat to swim toward the building Blake's trapped in. It's never a good idea to dive into deep water if you don't know for sure that there isn't something right below the surface, but in this scenario, when there's rubble and debris EVERYWHERE, the last thing that an emergency responder would do is dive; he'd definitely slide in feet-first just off the side of the boat. Diving here would be a quick and easy way to get some rebar right through the forehead.
