The Old Guard is about superheroes. Or gods. Or some such. I barely paid attention, but a sh*t-ton of people watched this movie and plenty of them enjoyed it.
We just counted sins, like the emotionless robots that we are.
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we count next?

They didnt cover it in this video but there's a post credits scene where booker stumbles home after a night out and finds Quynh in his kitchen, so she's not been drowning for 500 years necessarily.

Oh! Oh! Let me help you with that. Captain Jack Harkness is an immortal almost identical to the ones in this movie, and in Torchwood: Children of Earth, they put him in a tomb, fill it with concrete and bury it underground. He also comes back to life over and over only to die over and over. I think that only lasted a few days though, maybe a month. Not five hundred years. :)

Especially with the new immortal meeting with the old ones. They have odd priorities or do things strangely, which confuse her because it makes no sense to her. Then you slowly learn parts of their previous time, like Brooker having children and them dying before he does, not remembering family faces, etc, showing that immortality is really not that great. It's a dynamic worth exploring and can be really heartwrenching.

Honestly, the problem with a lot of these types of movies and shows where someone suddenly gets superpowers or finds out they have them can be summed up in that scene where her friends abandoned her because she was immortal. In most real life situations, unless the first instance of the person using their power was something that actively harmed those around them, most people would be pretty excited to find out that their friend had these kind of powers, and at worse would develop jealousy over it and abandon them after time had passed. They wouldn't just immediately go, "you're a freak!" and leave at the first chance they get.....

I think in this situation it's justified. If someone dies in your arms, that shit will get to you. To see them up and walking moments later while you're still very much impacted by the trauma of them dying in your arms, there's a good chance your initial reaction is not going to be friendly. Scared and confused, most likely.

Honestly, I'm surprised there wasn't a crack in this review about this being just a modern, more actiony rip-off of The Highlander. You've got the immortality, the use of arcane weapons, the being able to sense where each other are (a la The Quickening), the flashbacks to earlier times in their lives. The only thing it doesn't have is killing them by decapitation and The Prize.

I'm surprised you didn't bring up that final scene at the end. It felt like they spent the whole time setting up another villain for the movie, esp given how long it was. Also, I thought the iron maiden would be the one with spikes inside but they only brought up the drowning. So either she was impaled for years and somehow kept healing, even though it wouldn't dislodge itself, or they decided not to add it in. But that would've been an incredibly awful death, even worse than drowning only.

I finally watched this movie last night and I loved it! But, I cannot believe that the biggest plot hole is not even mentioned in this video: Booker did not need to betray his family and get them captured! He could have surrendered himself for the experiments, or taken samples himself and sent them to any and all labs to find out what makes them immortal! The other immortals did not need to suffer in order to figure this out! UGH! (Sorry if this was mentioned in the comments, it just bugs me.)
