Very Impressed with this Video! I've been a Professional Extreme Sports Photographer and Filmmaker for 38 Years in Hawaii and to me this Video Intro rivals what the BBC Does in Every Aspect! The Shooting, Editing, Music, and Narration and the Seamless Flow of the Editing!! Well Done Rachel.

Lovely photo's. I've never seen any badgers here in East Yorkshire yet. But when I lived in Sussex I knew a magical place where there was not only badgers but glow-worms and nightingales in their season. I used to leave a trail of honey sandwiches or nuts and raisins and cubs came to my feet on occasion. Pity I never had a camera in them days.

Absolutely Fabulous Rachel. I can so relate to everything you have spoken about. I went to my badger sett recently to feed and put the trail cam out. But to find the batterys low. Went home and changed the batteries. Went back and they was out feeding. So just sat and watched them.

A beautifully made video Rachel. If people didn’t know before watching this video how passionate you are about the welfare of badgers they certainly will after watching it. The photos you presented in this video were excellent and the badgers mixed in with the bluebells certainly made for memorable images. I get the feeling though that you’d be equally as happy to be watching the badgers with no photography involved at all, just being in the presence of these beautiful creatures being enough. You provided some very good photography advice on how to photograph them, though not everybody will be fortunate enough to own the Nikon Z9 I think the advice you shared would work with most dslr and mirrorless cameras, even less expensive ones. You mentioned the government ordering the killing of badgers but didn’t give much information as to why, I think that’s important to tell and to present a counter argument against it, as you will know there is evidence that badgers aren’t responsible for the spread of bTB to cattle, but those in favour of the cull will produce evidence to say the opposite. I’m with you and would hope that the killing ends sooner rather than later. As its odds on we will have a change of government later this year do you have any thoughts as to whether a labour government will be more inclined to back what the badgers trust are campaigning for. I seriously hope you, your photography and your videos help to get badgers more protection in the coming years, I think most people will hope it’s a fight that you will win.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this wonderful comment which has made me smile so much! I certainly did consider diving deeper into the reasons behind the badger cull. Perhaps next time. Thank you again for watching and taking the time to leave such a kind and constructive comment.

Hi Rachel! Been following you since you won photographer of the year. Wonderful work, and I see you are using the remarkable Plena! Do you have any other lenses which you like for photographing the badger? I'm thinking of lenses with a bit more reach. Here in the states we sometimes have better luck catching animals from a distance, although many are able to be captured with the 85/1.2. Your drone work is also beautifully done. Here's to a successful 2024 capturing nature's wonders!

Hi Craig! WOW - what a kind comment. Thank you! I'm really enjoying the plena lens, which Nikon have kindly loaned me until the end of the summer. It's been great fun to push the limits of the lens, as of course, it's not a focal length traditionally associated with wildlife photography. I think a 70-200mm lens is another nice focal length for badgers if you're hoping to include them within their environment. If it's portraits you're after, something upward of 400mm is my recommendation. Thank you also for your comment about my drone work. That's very nice of you, it's just a little hobby. I can't fly it in 99% of the locations I work at so I'm certainly no expert.

I have a 7d mark II Can you suggest a lens for wildlife photography ?
@RachelBigsby
@RachelBigsby 2 ай бұрын
If you’re looking for one lens, I’d recommend something quite versatile. I don’t know exactly what Canon manufactures but perhaps a 100-400 is a good place to start. Ideally, upward of 400mm depending on the wildlife you want. Sigma make a decent 150-600 which is a nice beginner lens for your canon mount 😃

Dunno if its with so many people walking all over now with dogs kids have pushed them away ? Just these setts were always well run kicked out mounds were huge holes are full of leaves just dead to many townies in countryside now I belive know nothing about countryside way it is these days (
