I'm a firm believer that any wingshooter worth his salt and wanting to have a fantastic small bore cartridge in his arsenal should own a 28ga. Watching your turkey hunts and thinking about early season teal and dove hunts made me jump into it and what a sweet little cartridge it is. I love my 10 bores and I believe one of the best duck guns ever is the SBE 3, but damn, a 28 bore is just the sweetest little darling for close in work. A gentleman's bore for sure. Great video once again, Matt. 59 more sleeps until it all starts again; the 28 is hungry.

One problem is people think they need big bore shotguns for waterfowl. Sub 12 gauge will kill anything you want. Glad you like the 28 so much. You had great success last season with the 28.

If possible can you maybe try for pheasant using the boss/ 28 gauge. For birds I think that might be the last “tough” to harvest bird. This journey keeps getting better. Thanks Matt.

Have used the #5 Win. SuperX (which were easy to find) in my 28 for pheasants last year and it knocked them down at 30yds just fine. The lighter gun weight of the 28 is also nice for a day of tromping around in the field.

@@joemama163you're right. I think there's a lot of off the cuff assumptions about the 28 because it's simply not a 20 or 12. It's equally as deadly at range. You just have to be accurate and know your pattern

Get a mec 600 jr mark 5 28ga reloader. Load your own load what size shot u want. I bought one before i got my tristar g2 viper 28ga. Been loading up #6 . And a few #5 for squirrel hunting. Planning on crow hunting with mine this winter. Load up some 7.5 or 8 shot for them.

@@HighPrairieSportsmen i started watching your videos after finding them last fall. I was looking up hunting with 28ga. You walk into my reloading room. One size has rifle/pistol. Other sized has mec 600 jr mark 5 in 410, 28, 20, . And a mec sizemaster 12ga reloader. Only ammo i buy is 22 22 mag . I just got a 17 hmr. Been buying ammo before i got the gun. How i got my 28 ga hulls. I bought factory ammo in Winchester AA ammo. And some super speed ammo. I bought some federal top gun ammo. The first reload on the hulls. Some has little cracks by crimp. Not buying anymore of them.

Alot of the reasons you list are reasons I started using a .410. It's easier to carry and shoot with my bad shoulders. I just couldn't take the number of shots during dove season with the 12 gauge anymore. I saw a .28 gauge 870 at the local shop and I think it may be the ticket for waterfowl. The .410 is a little thin in the pattern at 30 yards.

I've killed more doves and duck with my older Remington 11-87 16ga than any other shotgun I own. Now, the ducks were years ago when lead was still legal for them, but I'm looking at getting back in the game with the sub gauges. Nice job Matt.

A16 & a 28 would be all you need. With lead bigotry on the rise, they need to go to 3.25/3.33” shells. 12/20 are way over hyped. And I own both. Need the 24 too.

I don't understand the in close mindset for the 28. TSS is 1.5 to twice the weight of lead. #5 lead is equivalent to 9 or 10 tss. Same weight but a ton more pellets that maintain their velocity. It shoots just as well just as far as a 20. If velocity is equal, the lethality is equal to any size bore

@@HighPrairieSportsmen I shoot a 12 gauge and use regular 2 3/4 inch 1oz number 2 steel shot. You don't need 3 or 3 1/2-inch shells. BTW not too many hunters can consistently kill birds at 50 yards plus. If you can't knock down 3 geese with 3 shots they're too far.
