I agree that we need to embrace it -- that said, as former art director for film and TV, this type of AI is going to put thousands of people out of jobs. Maybe not all of the highest level artists, but most designers work at small agencies and magazines, making logos, banners, and posters. These people spent decades to learn their craft. These designers and illustrators are right to be concerned. While this software may benefit humanity as whole, it will have the affect on designers/illustrators as cars did on wagon makers.
@glibatree
@glibatree Жыл бұрын
I think this is a really important concern. I think I'm a little more optimistic - rather than needing less artists, a tool like this will give the same number of artists create more. They can get an idea about more concepts without committing so much time to each one individually - so art will become riskier and more creative but there will still be people behind every artistic decision down the pipeline.
@johnnytyler1
@johnnytyler1 Жыл бұрын
@@glibatree I'd be more optimistic if I didn't know the field so we'll. Take a key artist as an example -- they already do 30 concepts a day on average. With about 5 artists/designers working for a particular project. And 3 to 5 agencies competing to work on that IP. Many client in entertainment are already getting 200 to 2000 designs every week for one particular aspect of a project. There's no shortage of material already. In fact there's too much and too many people competing to win over clients. Now introduce AI and these agencies don't need 3 creative directors, 10 art directors, and a 100 designers -- when the AI gets a tad better you can fire 100 designers. Cause yeah, you do need someone to curtate and adjust, but not nearly as many. We're already super fast at doing that. A creative director already curates 2000 images per day. AI will only speed that up. Its like when they introduced automated machines into car factories, thousands lost their jobs.

I would say it's not going to put people out of work. Rather enable higher output. More efficiencies and enable the delivery of work at a faster pace. Its all about increasing efficiency not replacing people. Its a change in way of working. Not removing the work force.

It is definitely a blessing because it will empower a whole new set of creatives with ideas that we might otherwise never see to participate in the process of creation. I ask people the same thing about "software development". When you gave an AI that can generate an application from a "regular" user's description of what they want - we're likely to get a whole new breed of software... And that situation is coming sooner than people think...

I have to say your final thoughts on AI art at the end of the video really hit the bullseye. I feel the same way about AI. I'm a writer and I've been using Jarvis/Jasper since it came out to boost my productivity, and I can say firsthand that it does not replace us as writers. It only makes us better at what we do, helping us focus on the content much more, helping us learn how to become better writers, and giving us ideas that become an inspiration for new, even more creative ways to express ourselves. I believe this is exactly what will happen as these AIs become better. Absolutely pure inspiration, even among artists, is very rare. In fact, IMO, what we see as pure inspiration may just be our inability to pinpoint what past experience inspired us in the first place. That being the case (again, in my humble, non-professional opinion), that an artist uses a tool like AI to better express themselves doesn't make them a worse artist. It's not "cheating," as some might see it. The artist still has to give the right prompts and decide which images are more appealing, which work and which don't, and they have to make all sorts of other decisions that come after learning how to use the tool. AIs won't replace human creativity because they come from human creativity. They're trained on our art, they don't just create it out of thin air. As you say, this is just a tool, and an awesome one at that. I think it'll help us tap into our creativity and put into an image what we sometimes have trouble imagining ourselves. Thank you for such an awesome and inspiring video!

Delusional. Ai will replace humans, simply put, this is the end of concept art and graphic design as a career.
@ipp_tutor
@ipp_tutor Жыл бұрын
@@loadsheddingzim I disagree. At the end of the day, it's in the hands of the user to come up with the right prompt, and to accept or reject, tweak or modify the designs that the AI generates. You still need to have an idea of what looks good and what doesn't, what could work for a particular end, and what probably won't. I understand that some people may feel threatened by the technology, but it's actually not the technology that threatens them, but the fact that more people (not machines) will be able to produce high-quality art using these tools. They're the ones that are going to take jobs away from graphic designers, not the AIs. Remember, guns don't kill people, people do! Current digital artists and graphic designers have the upper hand in terms of experience and knowledge over newbies who are just learning about art and aesthetics, and they're the ones that could make the most of this tech. This isn't like taxi or truck drivers losing their jobs to self-driven vehicles, I think that's unavoidable in the future. Just as Elon Musk once said, we don't need elevator operators anymore, and no one complains about elevators working automatically. In the case of art, human inputs and decisions are still necessary to generate anything worth looking at, and I don't see that changing in the future. But of course, this is only my opinion, and I could be wrong. But delusional? Perhaps you should look up the term...

@@glibatree I truly mean it. Thank you. I have been running into issues with using image prompts and it replying by saying it doesn't recognize terms like "--AR 16:9" and "--uplight" when I use them with word prompts all the time. Not sure if you've run into this problem. Maybe my formatting is incorrect, but I can use those terms just fine with word only prompts. But also, you mention in the video that you don't recommend using terms like 'octane, unreal engine, 8k etc..." however on the community feed, a lot of the incredibly beautiful images use terms like that. Do you still believe that they aren't important? Obviously it's just an opinion, but I'd love your input on this.
@glibatree
@glibatree Жыл бұрын
@@Tyletoful To your first question normally I get that if the text that comes after it is for whatever reason invalid. I would have to see a whole command to really say. But often I think it is a formatting issue in some way or another. To the second point, the main purpose of that statement I made is that MidJourney is great at making quality images without those- and you'll see a lot of great images that do and don't. I think for people who are used to writing prompts a certain way- they will still get closest to what they are expecting by doing what they are used to. By the video is really geared at people who are overwhelmed by all those keywork explosions - and I didn't want them to feel like they are falling behind.

There is something I really would like to know about how Midjourney works. Can you ask for small changes or modifications of an existing image like for example how Dall-e 2 can turn a modern urban cityscape into a victorian one by changing the buildings and even the street lamps? As an artist, I'm more interested in making infinite variations of the same artwork than to create something from scratch. People suggested me Stylegan but in my opinion, is just a glorified filter. You can't make things like turn this portrait into an older version with white hair and one scar in the left eye, or flood this cityscape and add storm clouds and thunders, things like this. How faithful to the initial image Midjourney can be?
@glibatree

MidJourney is not at all faithful to the initial image, at this time. The founder mentioned potentially making that possible but at the moment it's not a priority - they are trying to make new image generation as fun and high quality as possible.

All these seperate tasks will count as seperate jobs and your 200 images ($10 plan) would probably translate as about 40 final upscaled works ?
@glibatree
@glibatree Жыл бұрын
That's true, it looks depends on your MidJourney workflow. You can get 4 final upscales from a single generation grid or go the other direction and generate a ton of grids but never upscale cause you're waiting for the perfect image. That why credits are based on GPU time rather than final upscales since it really depends.

Yes. Also, given that the list of banned words in MidJourney and Dall-e et-all is continually expanding, the "imagination" of the AI will only continue to contract, leaving us with a narrowing view of soft, permissable palatable abstractions. The artist will become even more of a renegade, but they'll have to learn their fucking craft, that's for sure.

Music production ability is measured by the ability to produce EXACTLY (within very slight tolerances, although generally on the enhanced and upgraded side based on that specific base) what an idea for a song is. A visual artisan should be capable of producing EXACTLY what is desired to be made. “I want tit to be exactly this way” and then model it or draw it, etcetera. THAT is what an artisan does. Too many bipeds flooding the internet with halfassed art isn’t going to make things better. A little concerning for the future if “eh, not really, but guess that is close enough” with AI generated art gets chosen over perfectly crafted masterpieces.

Sure AI art is fun to use, it's exciting to see what the algorithm can come up with. But what I'm missing, as an artist, is that feeling of satisfaction I get while I'm creating, painting or drawing. The high I get as I'm watching my creation develop as I'm creating it. The satisfaction I feel after I have created a "masterpiece". To have my need of creating met. I won't get that from AI art. I can imagine it's good for inspiration or if you want to have fun for a little while. For me, AI art is more of a game.

Yes, and I feel it's kind of like cheating, you get the results, but you didn't DO it. I think creating is also a soothing thing, remember the coloring book craze? Creating something from nothing has such a satisfaction to it. I want to try Mid Journey, just 'cause, but I'm not keen on what looks like the prompted image gets put up for everyone to look at. Also I wasn't sure about the user agreement, I got the impression they could use my prompts for eternity? It might just be a thing where they say that's legal mumbo jumbo in order to show the results on the discord. I dunno. This AI kind of reminds me of something I was involved with for years called EMG's Sketchfest. It was a monthly event, a collaboration of non-artists and artists, anyone could put up a prompt, if it struck the fancy of an artist they would draw it. Those years were so much fun, but eventually people drifted away. But it also had the human element, and there was something really satisfying about it. "Hey, I was inspired by you to make this crazy funny art" inclusiveness.

@@jennyheidewald5006 I completely agree with you. You can't really feel satisfaction from an image that the computer drew up from your prompt. You're just a viewer, pressing a few buttons and watches the outcome. I also don't like how everyone can see your prompts and images, but now that I think about it, I think it's good, because that way, the "art" belongs to everyone/no one. Everyone can write prompts and create together. Creating art is definitely soothing, you go someplace else, drift off into your own little world. Yeah I remember the revival of colouring books a few years ago, I never got into it, but I did start to make colouring pages, I thought that was much more fun than coloring them in. I don't think I've heard of EMG-sketchfest, but it's sounds like a really fun thing, artists and non-artists working together like that.

Please help with a question. - Can I use the works that I made in this neural network for the cover of a music album or book cover? (It seems to be impossible for free, but if through a subscription?) - and the second question, is it possible to use them for the same purposes if I change the detail in Photoshop? (Are small changes enough, or are big changes needed?)
@glibatree

The MidJourney license let's you use the work literally however you'd like, assuming your not breaking other laws or spreading hate. You can't for instance generate Spiderman and then sell prints because the spiderman IP is owned externally- but you can use original art you generate as album art no problem. (And you can change them in photoshop as needed)

I dunno to what extent artists will be replaced, but I do know for sure that kids and teenagers will stop trying to learn and practice art. They can only assume the AIs will develop much faster than they ever will, learning to draw takes thousands of hours.

Wonderful Video👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I’m new to this and just seen your vid. Shame it doesn’t allow you to tweak things that you want to focus on in an image that you are satisfied with - instead; it seems to give you a totally different image when prompting MJ to change a minor value. I guess you just have to bring it into Photoshop?

Thank you for this awesome video and demonstration of Midjourney... By the way, many Art directors after trying this new technology, they came up with this conclusion: "Ai is a great tool for designers to use in their work, But it will never replace the human creativity, which gives to their artworks a soul!." So, don't be afraid guys, it will never replace you. Because always a designer will be necessary, to regulate, edit, and correct it. Be the way I have a question to make.. Is it true that people who have a Free Midjourney account, are not allowed to sell their generated images, They can do that only if they purchase a subscription account, that can sell.

I would like to see the same character/person image consistently looking the same in a pose facing camera, facing away from camera, facing left or left profile of person or character and of course right side profile view. I tried everything and only got it to work once. I tried using the same prompt but it did not work again. Can you look into this please?

2 more questions, please.. 1. Can I use jpg image as a based photo instead of links for 12:50? 2. How can I use original generated midjourney images and grow from that? Put new prompts on the original images?
@glibatree
@glibatree Жыл бұрын
Yes, .jpg is fine, basically it should work as long as it is an image url (rather than a website that just has an image somewhere) Generated images from MidJourney can be used as image prompts just like anything else, just right click > copy image address > and paste at the start of your new prompt.

Hello. How many pictures or hours I can get in day also in month if I choose basic plan ($10 in month) in midjourney?
@Daniel_R813

ok the IA will not replace the artists but it will impoverish, denigrate the little they were already paid. And will increasingly affect more and more sectors.

If I use "stop" when generating an image...Does that mean it doesn't count towards my allowable images of 200 since it isn't fully complete?
@glibatree
@glibatree Жыл бұрын
The 200 number, is in "Minutes of GPU processing power". So you are only charged for the percentage of the generation you use. (ie, 25% of a generation only takes .25 GPU minutes on average)
@wexer82

/fast does the opposite of what you said, it does not save you on hours, but instead specifically specifies to use the hours. /fast is opposite of /relaxed

Is there anyone that would be so kind to share some ideas on keeping consistency in the output? For instance of I want to write a picture novel how can I keep the faces of the characters the same but I'm different expression (sad, happy, mad, on thought...)?

I think MidJourney is going to have a hard time keeping specific enemies the dance across generations. I think for a project like that, you'll want a generation tool that supports in painting. (It lets you erase and regenerate parts of the image), the mouth for instance to turn a frown into a smile.

My trial ended, took me to the site account, but instead was just the home page. Not sure what happened, so clicked join, but it kept going to the home page. * correct link, no viruses, apparently I just am overlooking something simple to most. I mean I can type in galley end of url and it works… so, it to confident giving them money if their splash page, or link to account for discord doesn’t work. Thanks
