Nvg’s don’t have to be all running and gunning either. I’m old, busted up, retired military and get the most joy out of my personal nvg’s night hiking with my dog and stargazing. Counting meteorites burning in and satellites flying over is very therapeutic :)

For those of you that are questioning buying from trex or really just want NVG's now... I pressed the "submit" button for payment at 10pm and got a phone call at 9am the next morning with Justin. He picked out my PVS14 and read me the specs and asked if i was okay with it. Not only was i okay with the specs he told me exactly what was going to happen next and then sent me an email with the spec sheet along with a picture through the tube about an hour later. Along with that, i received a tracking number a few hours after the spec sheet/tube picture with shipping info that was NEXT DAY shipping. Best experience i've had with customer service anywhere. Currently typing this while sitting in my backyard looking at the stars through my PVS14 lol

Or sell a few of your 40 identical AR15s with nearly the exact same optics, barrels, and accessories, which all do the exact same job. Prepper rant incoming! If you’re buying NVGs and you don’t have all your debt paid off and $5000 in savings over and above the money for your kit, then you’re probably going to fail long before it comes time to use your tubes. Barring the most unlikely events, any kind of collapse will take place over months or years. If you have nods and don’t have savings, then you’re going to wind up homeless and dead long before you get to use your nods. Thing only get worse from here boys. Pay off your debt. Save up some money. Then buy gear. If you have no gear right now, spend $2000 on a cheap kit with a rifle, magnified optic, light, and sling, and the ability to carry sustainment items. Water, rifle, ammo, food, survival items. In that order. Make sure you have 30-90 days worth of money in your savings account. Make sure you have enough food and water for 30 days minimum. Make sure you have 1000 rounds of ammo per weapon per caliber. Make sure you have a way to carry that ammunition. Then worry about nods.

But I’m a broke bitch and I like the primary arms SLX micro prisms. I’ve got the 3X with the 5.56 raptor reticle. Not too many rounds on it, but so far so good and it’s a prism so basically bombproof. I definitely prefer the longer, more detailed, thorough videos, whether they are technical or interview in nature.I watch and listen to them while I'm working on something else during the day or evening. If while doing that the video gets into something that requires more intense concentration fora few minutes, I'll switch my concentration to the video. I might even replay that portion 2 or 3 times. Also, I frequently watch or listen to the same video multiple times. Sometimes I download videos for my library. You never know when these videos will be removed from KZfaq. It takes a huge amount of wasted time to just sort through channels or KZfaq in general to pick the next video to watch. For that reason, For topics of serious or technical or instructional nature (for example, equipment reviews) I don't like video Shorts or other shorter videos or videos in which the maker rushes through the presentation or talks fast to make the video as short as possible. For most videos I have to set the playback speed to 75% in order to keep from having to rewind and replay portions. I do like to watch the comical entertaining video Shorts while chilling.

Im sure this guy's knows a everything about night vision, but his performance is a bit confusing imo. He often talks in circles, repeats things with no real information value, says contradictory things often then sometimes talks about something really specific in great detail but with no context. I feel like that even if it doesn't create more confusion it doesn't really do a great job helping people understand night vision better. I'm not trying to be hostile. He's clearly not used to this kind of act of explaining things in this specific manner. It would probably be benefitial to prepare a more thorough script and stick to that. It would help a lot to make sure the actual information reaches the viewers. It would also do wonders for the pacing and would help to avoid talkint in circles.

What I was hoping for at some point was a simple chart or discussion of the primary tubes that are actually available that tells us at different price ranges what the important specs are of those tubes or brands that use those tubes. A chart showing commercially available goggles with their specs that you've spent so much time explaining to us (and I do appreciate that) would be very useful, and then you might say something like, "Note that these XYZ goggles are better in almost every aspect than other NVG's at that price range, but they do lack a couple of nice features like infinity focus and aren't quite as good in a very high light environment because of ...".
@user-mw9yh4cu2i
@user-mw9yh4cu2i Жыл бұрын
Other companies provide that and give side by side image comparisons to give you an idea on how much a difference a certain spec increase is going to give you so that you can decide if it’s worth it to you to pay more for the increase you’re going to get. The reason they aren’t going to do that here is because they’re trying to convince everyone that it makes sense to let them not let you pick or know your specs before buying and to still pay more than you can get the same hand picked product for from other companies. It’s pathetic.

You just want an SNR over 30 a lp/mm at 72 or under but over 64. And a gain over 60,000. At that point they are all basically the same. a high SNR does help allot in very dark areas (cloud cover+tree cover/indoors) . But will make little difference under starlight.

as a PC gamer. the tube grades remind me a lot of how CPUs are made. There is a good bit of chemistry that goes into making a tube. It's a lot like baking a brownie. The corner pieces are the best. even though the rest of the brownie is still good. Like a i9 chip after testing gets listed as an i7 because it is not stable or a few of the cores are bad.

Glad to have a comprehensive "break down" vid on specs and how to choose a device but I will say a lot of people are really pissed off on how T Rex arms is marketing their night vision devices, one point being made is how expensive the nods are t rex is selling with no hand picked options or spec sheets. Despite what the vid says, which from a business perspective is coming from someone trying to sell the products on t rex arms site, people do want to see spec sheets and know what they are buying. I know Lucas said a rep calls the customer prior to the order being processed so I am unsure if that's when a spec sheet is gone over but I know I personally did a lot of research before buying my first duals from tnvc and talked with them both via email and phone calls.

My personal feeling is that the dominance of photomultiplier tube based solutions will eventually get displaced by products based on high-sensitivity visible light camera sensors (which can also pick up enough IR to be useful with IR-based targeting). Lots of progress in that domain. This will also allow more meaningful integration with other accessories - providing data overlays, thermal overlays etc. By the time that the component costs are reshuffled, the system costs should still be somewhat reduced. Though, the simplicity and ruggedness of photomultiplier tube solutions will keep them popular for government customers for a long time.

@@Andrewsky347 Indeed, with the biggest obstacle being (unavoidable) higher power consumption and therefore the additional weight/complexity of larger batteries. I love my mystery meat photonis Echo WP pvs14 I aquired on Tac swap for $1200 + glock 19X trade. no spec sheet but holy crap is it crispy, literally no detectable blems. I got it from a country bumpkin out in rural Texas who had no clue about the nuances of night vision. It works as well as I would ever need as far as lighting conditions go, and I now use it with a sidekick 640 in a dual band setup. I dont think I will ever go for a "super nice" 24UM L3 tube because if I ever encounter extremely adverse lighting conditions (dark AF, pitch black) I will be relying on either my IR illuminator or the thermal image which could care less about lighting conditions.

Is EBI responsible for issues with depth perception? Cause I would notice while in service there would be times where my depth perception would just go out the window because I couldn’t tell where certain objects started or end. I understand inherently that will happen but does that make it worse?

@rekerboi1125

@Jim-ed3ej you can get WP XLSH elbit tubes for 2k with the same or similar specs. You can easily build out a brand new device like that with new Carson lenses for 6.5 or even less if you know where to look or get everything used. People barely use their nods anyway, so everything that's used will be almost brand new anyway. So 1k for lenses, 1.5k for the housing, 4k for tubes. Total of 6.5k. Look for all used components and youre looking at probably 10-15% less than that.

As an owner of one - I believe it's usually what doesn't show up in the technical data sheets that gets them DQ'd from being binned higher. Things like a whiny power unit, distortion, fixed pattern noise, or an uneven thin film perhaps? My unit's got a bit of visual distortion(fisheye) and I didn't know that before buying it. I didn't have a picture of a grid, nor did it show up in the specs.

I have 2 of them and they work great! Got really good deals on them. Now I have looked through some L3 filmless and yea they are a little nicer as far as clarity but there are other things that I prefer over the L3 mainly cost. I do use my NVGs alot so I just have accepted what I have and go use it.

I wish I would have known before my uncle spent my money on some random website to get me a pair of nvg. He spent over 3 k on superior tactical and I ended up with a gen 2 wp with hella burns of some sort in the center of the tube with only one small black blem I asked them about it and they said it passed inspection so I sent it to any mother company and they told me I was screwed over and given a really old and bad tube And it should have never passed and they will not get ahold of me or anything and said sorry our warranty will not cover it. I didn’t notice it for the first two weeks until my dad pointed it out when I showed him them he looked at a wall and pointed it out with the ir light on. So now I’m out and have a junk pair of nvgs and I’m super upset. So STAY AWAY FROM SUPERIOR TACTICAL.

Gah 30mins and Im out. Guy talks so generally that you get only cumbs of anything actionable outside of terms and theory. Why cant he just compare one tube to another and give a mission statement of how one does better over the other in different areas. Seems like a good dude, but man, his boresome delivery of things tangible rivals some of the most lazed teachers from my school days.

US night vision pulled a tube for me with the specs I wanted. Very kind of them. I think it is a big part of the fun to look for the specs you like. Just saying they all don't matter very much is sort of misleading from a guy selling you gear.

You're taking advantage of people who trust your brand, who know next to nothing of night vision, making them overpay for unverifiably spec'd tubes. I support your company, i use your products, but you need to take a look at what others in the industry have as the standard, bc you do not meet it.
