The way I wrote my guest list really helped me make my seating chart! As I wrote my guest list, I would group families together and friend groups together. Once I had my list, I broke it up into 10 person tables

I've still just slowly starting the planning with WeddingWire and building the guest list there is cool because you can create groups some are already listed like "your family" "their family" "your friends" "their friends" etc. but you can make more too and I've willing to bet that it will help lots more when we do more planning and seating is something my fiance and I start talking about

I’ve been to many weddings. Opening seating makes me stressed. I want to make sure I’m sitting with friends and family. I’m saving chairs, or counting to make sure we can all fit at a table. With seating charts, it takes the guest work out of it.

Bruh open seating is very stressful. I'll show up early for an event to get a seat I want, and some person will save like 4+ chairs for their friends who show up late, and I'm sure that person is stressed by having to tell everyone who comes by that the chairs are taken lol

My cousin didn’t have a seating chart at her wedding. It wasn’t as stressful as some others are saying they’ve experienced. But I think it was a missed opportunity because our family did NOT sit with his family. Lol. We just sat with who we were most comfortable with - people we already knew. Some forced mingling is nice in my opinion.

My venue said that I don’t need to make place cards or anything like that! They have waiters that come and find each person and personally escorts them to their table and double checks their order since it’s a plated meal! So cool and I’ve never seen anyone else do it!

Expect no shows. Things won’t be perfect. It’ll be fine. I had about 7 no shows that I didn’t know about until the day before or day of out of 130. Just have to let it go and not worry too much about the seating chart.

Hard pass on the “list people by table.” It created a HORRIBLE bottleneck at my friend’s wedding. So unless you only have like 4 tables… I personally think listing names alphabetically is more efficient. I decided to place individual namecards out on a seating chart table, and have guests take their namecard WITH them when they went. That way guests behind them found their names from a shrinking pool of namecards, which made the process faster and faster.

I agree. It's nice if the bride and groom work out seating so you sit with people you like, but I am not going to throw a fit if I sit with someone I don't like or even strongly dislike. It's just a dinner, and as long as you also sit with one of more people that you can get along with you can suck it up for a few hours.

I’ve never been to a wedding that has had a seating chart, and it’s stressed me out every single time. My family is huge, so lots of family weddings, and my father was an officiant and bishop, so he would officiate random weddings for people we didn’t even know, but they’d also invite my mother and myself. Hi Jamie! I've noticed that you consistently refer to the dancing part of the reception as a given aspect, which for most people it totally is! But my fiance and I are planning an afternoon reception on the front lawn of the church we're having the ceremony in - which doesn't really lend itself to a dance party! Would it be possible to do a video about a reception timeline or activities for couples who aren't planning on having dancing? Thank you! Also, thank you so so much for these videos, they are making me feel so much more organized!!! Hi Jamie, we are doing open seating as it’s a shorter party with buffet style food but not at an meal time, and it would have been cool if there were more tips on how to make unassigned seating work. I think I’ll just have one table reserved for our family and then the rest of the guests can sit where they like. We want to encourage dancing anyway.

Jamie, you are going to laugh! So … had zero desire to do a seating chart, but after watching you video a while back and chatting with two of my buddies with opposite views I decided to go ahead and do assigned tables. Go on Zazzle made the cutest seating cards for my reception. It took me 2-3 days I was so proud of them I took a photo. Well after ALL OF THAT…. on the day of wedding I could not find my seating cards! I know exactly what box I put them in with my wedding decorations. That’s what happens when your nephews move your wedding boxes to the venue! I was so upset! I tried to sneak out to go back to my house to get them… no got busted and put back in my bridal suite, broke the rule and face timed my new hubby to convince him to go back home and look for them and he refused! OMG! God love the day of coordinator! She saw how upset was and asked if I had a list. I remember the little picture I took on my phone of it and she said let’s give it a go. Do you know she took that one picture and typed up some faux seating cards for me and hung them up! Wow! Everyone got seated reasonably and all well that ends well. We had a great day! Do you know I got married 3 weeks ago and to this day those seating cards still have not been found! 😂😂😂😂🤦🏾‍♀️

Craigslist. FB marketplace. If you really want to make your own stuff, joann fabrics and michaels, but only if you have coupons and when things are on sale. Dollar tree. Goodwill. Thrift shops. If you are spending a lot of money on florals, you really don’t need to spend much on decor items. Let the flowers do their thing. Keep it simple and you’ll have less to clean up and pack afterwards.

This is a fantastic and informative video! Best advice I’ve gotten in wedding planning so far! Video idea from a nerdy human: do you have a lot of experience with themed weddings? We are doing a Harry Potter themed wedding on Halloween 2020, we want tons of HP but also keeping it classy. What are some common themes you see and fun ways to execute them in a realistic way? Pinterest can be a lot...
@jovanamarkovic6332
@jovanamarkovic6332 4 жыл бұрын
Some ideas iff the top of my head - you can incorporate HP through color scheme - each house per table (long tables if your venue has enough room for it), seating chart - divide people in houses and add sorting hat at the top of the seating chart, decorate the ceiling to resemble Hogwarts, serve butter beer (or potion signature coctails), train ticket 3/4 wedding invitations...You don't need to overwhelm all the guests, but true HP fans will notice the details :)

In the UK, it’s traditional to have a head table with the bride and groom, their parents and then the best man and moh and then have the bridal party at their own table

Hi! Any tips on how to plan a wedding in four months? Not the ideal situation but something we are going to do. I don't want it to feel like a thrown together wedding.

Hi Jamie! I love your videos! I was wondering if you had any suggestions for brides who might not be big dancers or don't want everyone watching them dance? #IntrovertBrideProblems

Thank you so much Jamie! What about seating charts for long table seating? We are thinking we will need both escort and seating chart?

This is crazy on time. My wedding is in a week but I think why I've been hesitant is what if I have last minute changes on the seating chart but it's already printed out. How can I update it where it doesn't look tacky

How do you feel about a cocktail/ hors d’oeuvre type reception rather than the plated dinner reception? This would be mentioned on the invitation and would only be about 3-4 hours.

I was thinking of having my family directly across from us so they have best view of us at the sweetheart table. I feel that the spots on the sides don’t have as good of a view of the bride and groom.

Wish you would have covered more on the technicality of make seating charts (software to use, where to print, recommended material to print on, DIY vs store-printed, etc.).

First of all, I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL. I have watched every single video and it has been beyond helpful! Thank you for doing what you do. I’m getting married in 201 days and I would love to see some videos about the week of the wedding, or day of the wedding tips and tricks. I have all of my vendors and am mostly set up! I just want to make sure I am not missing any of the last minute details. What are some things that have to wait until the week of and how do you navigate that week? Thank you!!! 😍

I wonder how it would work to let guests know beforehand (text or email) what their table number is? Maybe it would be more work but $0 on cost for paper goods with escort cards.
