Would’ve loved to see this type of support when the other unions tried to strike before the writers and actors. We work 10x as many hours, the work is 10x as hard on our bodies, we don’t get residuals like they do, and we don’t get any recognition.

If the tech exists it will be used. Remember black and white TV, 8 track tapes and cassettes, VHS machines? All gone and no one misses them. In every instance the new tech was better than what it replaced. Windows 1.0 was revolutionary. Does anyone still use it? Times changes...the world isn't flat anyone. Ever since the industrial revolution...1760 or there about.. people have been replaced and relocated into new fields. It's going to happen.... perhaps sooner is better than later, Time will tell.

If you forget the rhetoric and look at the facts it becomes clear. The studios did not want to talk to the union prior to the strike. So why not? Simple answer, they knew the strike was going to happen and it was okay with them. The studios waited weeks before making a decent offer of about 85% of what was asked for , while ignoring key sticking points. Why was that? They wanted the offer to be rejected so the strike would continue. Then they leaked the offer to show how fair it was. If it's true that it would only cost 1% of profits to meet union demands, why would the studios not agree to pay such a small and insignificant amount? Because it's not about the contract or the money. WGA SAG AFTRA are not the only unions the studios have to deal with. There are others that they will need to deal with in the future. The studios were prepared for this, not only did they have more than enough legacy content stored and global content available, but stopping productions and wages was a huge bonus in savings. Something that the shareholders love to hear. The unions had no idea what they were up against or how well the studios were prepared. The studios were very well prepared and knew exactly what to expect and had planned for it We hear nothing from the studios. Everything we hear is from union heads, their representatives, union activists and media shills, trying to gain public support. There is no way the unions will win this.

15:33 regarding AI is the core conversation here. Michael's point of view that AI is bad because it will screw everyone in Hollywood is not wrong, but it is also not a good argument against using AI. If Hollywood doesn't adopt that technology then some kid in their parents basement will & he'll be able to output competitive content at a way lower price point. I feel bad for these writers as their world is turned upside down, but this technology (like all technologies that came before it) is inevitable & it is wiser to figure out a way to leverage it then to fight it, otherwise it's time to start looking for a new career path.

I’m a teacher and in my country we saw a complete strike of all teachers - early childhood, primary and secondary - for one day and the outrage among parents was really surprising and disheartening. I’m not attempting to downplay the fact that everyone should be paid what they are worth and that we all know current rates among many industries aren’t keeping up with inflation, recession prices and cost of living, but the fact that when our social welfare, health and education sectors strike everyone gets so up in arms and defensive against it, when people are openly showing support for this industrial action, it makes me very sad, disappointed and confused at the world.

Considering that everything lazy Hollywood has produced these last 10 years, were prequels, remakes, sequels and spin-offs, I want them to continue their strike until the day hell freezes over. Let Hollywood die, maybe then we’ll actually get some producers and writers that don’t insult the intelligence of their paying costumers by feeding us the same regurgitated garbage over and over and OVER again and actually earn their living by seeking out new and original ideas.

Well, go ahead and tell us (exactly) how screwed you are! I have zero sympathy if you make $70k or more per year. Almost every single one of us has to put up with money and job security issues.

And you should unionize, and force employers to pay a living wage. You should unionize, and you should strike. Wages have remained stagnant for well over a decade. The owners on top have been getting richer, while strangling you into worse living conditions and endless stress struggling for survival. You should unionize and you should strike.

Maybe you should have become a venture capitalist then. Don’t complain about not making enough money from a profession you chose. In the real world if you aren’t making enough money you do something different.

Writers need to find a new proffession. You're going to be replaced just like people who used to work in assembly-line and factory workers. Deal with it.

Aai's going to replace the writters just like AI is going to replace truck drivers car manufacturers and all kinds of people in other industries. you might as well face the music Hollywood is out of ideas for TV shows and movies and that's why you see regurgitation of part 10 and old sitcoms being remade its all vomit we've seen before.

Take your minimum wage like the rest of the world or stop writing. Nobody has the time or money to watch movies, play video games, or binge on TV shows. I even need to paid to write YT comments!

This video is a waste of time. Watched more than half of it and still unclear what the issues are. Just a lot of complaining and demonizing. As if the hosts spend zero time preparing and instead are just gossiping off the top of their head.

Not sure how AI can direct, but writing unto itself is undoubtedly besieged, and, if we're being honest, it could probably do a better job than most script doctors, but scriptwriting itself still needs humans; AI creative writing is very formulaic ... but probably not for long

Idk. I think the upcoming 4th Spider-Man reboot, Fast & Furious 13 & six Jurassic Park movies means human writers tend to be formulaic too 🤷‍♂️
