Thomas speaks like the American actors did in movies in the 30s and 40s aka "golden age of cinema." Watch enough of those movies and you'll notice everyone talked like that. It's not really a British accent, someone mentioned below it's a Mid Atlantic accent which is correct. Many people in the upper class adopted it or were taught to speak like that. It's an interesting phenomenon but its use dropped after World War II and nobody talks like that anymore. As for Thomas not wanting people to know where he works--I get that. I don't talk about my job online or social media. Companies check those and it's an easy way to get fired if you say or do the wrong thing online. It makes sense for him not to talk about it. If you don't have a job yet, you'll understand when you have to sign an NDA. As a general rule you shouldn't talk about where you work on social media.

Back in the 20s and 30s, a lot of movie stars and people from the east spoke with a sort of mix of British and American. They affected what was called a Mid-Atlantic accent to seem more aristocratic. Kathryn Hepburn is a perfect example of that. Patrick is carrying on a long tradition. :)
