Can you connect a monitor with display port to dipslay port cable, microphone with USB (white), and external camera with USB (white) - which hub would you add?
@CalDigitHQ
@CalDigitHQ 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Janice, This sounds like something almost all of our docks should be able to do. If that is all your needs and you do not anticipate those needs growing, our SOHO dock could be a good fit for you. There's one USB-A and one USB-C cable, so you may need to get an adapter, depending on your USB devices. The next up from there would be the USB-C Pro Dock, which offers significantly more ports, including 3 USB-A and one USB-C port. Both of these are USB-C docks, and the Pro Dock can also leverage Thunderbolt 3 software if ti is available.

One thing you missed that could be worth mentioning is stuff like 10 Gigabit networking, I use a windows workstation and thanks to multiple GPUs I only had the one PCIe slot available for multiple needed devices, hence I went thunderbolt 3, it's nice being able to add 10G networking to my workstation along with extra usb ports which I'm short on and even greater expandibility is part of the reason I love it as a content creator also can't wait to get the TS3+ that I ordered tomorrow, all goes well I'll be buying a second!
@CalDigitHQ
@CalDigitHQ 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the suggestion! We actually sell a 10Gig network adapter, can't believe we forgot to mention that option entirely. If we decide to make a follow-up video or something relevant, we'll definitely include 10 Gigabit networking. Thank you for your suggestion! We hope that the TS3 Plus exceeds your needs! If you run into any anomalous behavior, please reach out to our support team and they would be more than happy to help.

@@CalDigitHQ oh damn of I'd have known then I'd have gotten yours as I just ordered the TS3+ along with a pair of Sabrent 10G NICs oh well but yeah 10G on TB3 needs to be more widely known as it's a pretty compelling reason to go thunderbolt if you ask me, an expandable bus with everything from display to 10G networking? It's crazy it hasn't taken off as much as it could
@CalDigitHQ
@CalDigitHQ 4 жыл бұрын
It's all good. Ours is currently out of stock for the time being, so you're not missing anything! We're looking forward to the day 10G takes over as the prominent networking standard, but for now we have to concede that it is still prohibitively expensive and necessary for the vast majority of consumers out there.

I have a razer blade studio edition and a 2560x1440p 144hz monitor. My laptop only has hdmi port that for some reason doesnt let my monitor go to 144hz (monitor stays 60hz). SO I was wandering if this docking station supports 2560x1440p 144hz gaming?

Nice commercial presentation. But the hub I don’t see is an attachable M1 iPad Pro usb c 6 in 1 hub for a mic, headphones, power/thunderbolt 4, usb c, and dual sd card reader.
@CalDigitHQ
@CalDigitHQ 3 жыл бұрын
That sounds oddly specific. This video was released before any M1 device existed and before Thunderbolt 4 was released, so there's not much I can do there. The only Dual SD Card reader we have is on the SOHO Dock, and the only option we have for dedicated mic and headphone jack is the TS3 Plus (which does work on the M1 iPad Pro - it does not work on previous iPad Pros). Our USB-C Pro or HDMI Docks might be a good middle of the ground. You can get a headphone/microphone splitter to get dedicated audio ports back, and it mostly meets your needs other than that.

I have a MBP 16” and a razer core X egpu, how do I go about connecting these 2 if I want to get that TS3 plus dock? Connect it individually to each of the MBP’s TB3 slots or Can the egpu connects to the dock and then the dock to the MBP? 87W is not sufficient though to charge the MBP16” while the egpu is capable to provide charge for it @100W. Thanks!
@CalDigitHQ
@CalDigitHQ 3 жыл бұрын
So your computer will pull from the highest wattage source if multiple power sources are plugged in. This means you have a couple options: 1) connect both devices to your MBP 16" individually. Both will work, power will be drawn from your eGPU. We highly recommend using a Thunderbolt 3 port on each side of your computer for this. Both ports on a side of the MBP 16" share the same BUS, meaning they share the same bandwidth. An eGPU or our TS3 Plus alone can almost entirely saturate Thunderbolt 3's bandwidth, so for best performance overall you should put them on opposite sides of the computer from each other. 2) if your eGPU has multiple Thunderbolt 3 connections, you can setup like this: MBP16" - eGPU - TS3 Plus. TS3 Plus will still operate, and as a bonus, any monitors connected to it will be operated off of the eGPU. Because both of these devices are on the same connection, you may run into bandwidth problems depending on what you use the eGPU for and what you use the TS3 Plus for. I will say that because this is the more convenient setup it is well worth testing first and seeing if it works for you. You might not ever completely saturate the Thunderbolt connection, in which case there is absolutely no downside here.
@eby61mss
@eby61mss 3 жыл бұрын
@@CalDigitHQ awesome, thanks for the detailed reply! Since my eGPU only has one TB3 port that connects direct to the MBP, I’ll go with option #1. I was a bit afraid that the setup might damage the MBP if 2 power sources are connected to it simultaneously, but I guess the MBP is smart enough to just draw from one source and the TS3 Plus would just function as a normal dock. Thanks again and I might just grab the TS3 Plus now!

@@CalDigitHQ one more question, I think I heard from a reviewer that with the TS3 Plus, you can’t plug in your earphones with mic to have the mic to work for online calls since the 3.5mm connections are separated on the TS3 Plus? Most hubs are a combo when it comes to the included 3.5mm jack. I have to take conference calls so it would be good to know if I can use the 3.5mm jack on the TS3 directly instead of connecting my earphones into my laptop’s 3.5mm jack, thanks. EDIT: I just went with Caldigit’s usb-c pro
@CalDigitHQ
@CalDigitHQ 3 жыл бұрын
@@eby61mss Yes, the TS3 Plus offers an audio in and an audio out 3.5mm jack. As you found, the Pro Dock has our combo audio jack. There is a quick way to use a combo headset with our separate ports: a 3.5mm audio splitter. Hope you enjoy the Pro Dock, though! If the amount of ports works well for you, it's a great option!

@@adiands850 Rarely a cable or port has a defect that leads to a situation where the setup has to sit a certain way for it to work properly. If this happens due to something on our end, it's almost definitely eligible for warranty services.

In order to get a second monitor on your computer, you will need to use the HDMI port on the computer itself.

We need a thunderbolt 3 ONLY dock...a dock with 2 to 4 TB3 ports (ACTIVE) and then 2 USB-C gen2 ports....4 to 6 total USB-C ports majority dedicated for TB3 peripherals and then for standard USB-C transfer devices you also have those vacant ports available too. No USB-A ports, no SD card reader, no HDMI or DP ports (the TB3 ports can work for displays). A straight up strictly usb-c hub.

What you are asking for cannot technically exist yet. The current limit of Thunderbolt 3 ports on a dock is 2 to my knowledge, this includes the input. Thunderbolt 4 is boasting to be able to support up to 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports at once, so keep an eye out for when that technology hits the market.

There is absolutely no way to interface your laptop with that eGPU. In order to use an eGPU with a Thunderbolt port, you must use a Thunderbolt enabled computer. From there you can directly connect to the eGPU or through a Thunderbolt device with a downstream port, like our TS3 Plus.

@CalDigitHQ
@CalDigitHQ 3 жыл бұрын
Thunderbolt 3 is very useful for the aforementioned docks from us and other manufacturers. As mentioned in the video, with Thunderbolt 3 it is entirely possible to have a laptop that fully converts into a desktop work station with one single Thunderbolt 3 cable. Sure, USB4 will be great when it's readily available and after there is some market saturation, but that is well over a year out. As with all new technology, availability and reliability are two big hurdles to overcome in its infancy, which no doubt USB4 will overcome with time, but meanwhile Thunderbolt 3 has had almost 5 years to mature and to saturate the market. Plus, at the end of the day, the speeds are just as fast as USB4 will be, and it is very likely that the majority of USB4 machines will also support Thunderbolt 3.

It depends. First, if our docks work with USB, it's only with USB-C. Our TS3 Plus is Thunderbolt only, and will not work on a computer that only has a USB-C connection. The Pro Dock and HDMI Dock are both "hybrid" docks, in that they work on both USB-C and Thunderbolt 3. Likewise, our Thunderbolt 4 docks are all Universally Compatible, meaning that they work on USB-C, USB 4, Thunderbolt 3, and Thunderbolt 4.
