Appreciate you putting this info out there. I too was under the impression you had to swap the TCM over from the original trans. When keeping the VR TCM did you have to reprogram it to the car? Or was it really just the bellhousing that needs modified, and using everything else from the VR? Looking at doing this swap soon so any insight is appreciated.

No programming needed for the vr valve body it’s plug and play. Just the bell housing needed to modified.

@@xxcabxx50did you do it mine is in the shop rn tcm / vb went at 116k so vr trans swap using all of the trans for it no swaps like reg said My mechanic is saying change driveshaft what do u think reg

@@KennyPicassoyou do need to change the drive shaft to a VR one, I’m awd and I’m gonna have to change the drive shaft to VR AWD one and transmission brace I need a VR30 one. I’m doing it in two weeks.

Do you need a 3.0t drive shaft or can the 3.7 q50 driveshaft would work with VR transmission?

The vr30 is also a 7AT but with higher torque spec? I thought it was a 9 speed like the new Z Does the VR30 trans shift quicker than VQ37 trans ? Or is it just to handle more power safely ?

I sent like the vr30 torque bigger than the 3.7. Even the belt housing longer. So is the transmission mount gonna fit in the same spot

So can you retune it to shift it to 7500rpm or will it always shift at 6500rmp cause in that case you just become slower top speed

No, it bolts up without a tune.

You don’t have to but a retune for the transmission would prolly be best since the tuner switches shift points etc

So my g hit 7500 rpm so the q only hits 6500 ?

It’s the vr valve body that’s why it goes to 6500

Why are the vr30 transmission more reliable?

It’s an automatic transmission with real gears as opposed to a CVT with a belt, drums and teeth, so even though they’re both “automatic” they operate completely differently and the CVT is notorious for being a bomb under power.

Q50 is discontinued, it’s most likely going to be full electric soon

Ngl not tryna call you a lair but I tried to do the same thing n it didn’t fit bc the bell housing didn’t have a cut for the crank sensor n the bolts pattern didn’t line up they where off by a couple centimeters and the torque converter isn’t the same bc the 3.7 is NA so it’s a low stall n the 3.0 is a boasted ( obviously ) n it’s a mid stall and acouple more things didn’t align,, that’s the reason they changed problem 3k bc they didn’t tell you all the things they had to do maybe idk but I tired n failed

You have to modify the bell housing. My recommendation is go somewhere who knows how to do the swap.

Not all car people want to kick a clutch. And then think about actually doing it while it also is your first time driving a manual transmission car in general. The whole process of teaching yourself how to drive a manual car, on top of applying and adapting it into your day to day life is going to take some time depending on how quick you learn how to do it. I have an 04 g35 coupe with a vq35hr and a manual swap. And I was used to driving my gs300, and the g with autos.

@@tyleeware7203when I learned how to properly drive manual it was all smiles from there. Then when you get those perfect downshifts and upshifts there’s no comparison. I’ve driven manual enough that in traffic as long as you know what you’re doing everything is all good. I just plan my route ahead of time to avoid traffic as much as possible

@@tyleeware7203plus these 3.7 transmissions SUCK!! The valve body goes out every 70k miles it’s just better to throw the 3.0 transmission you’ll eliminate the problem.
