I really needed to see this video. I have had a pixie for more than a year and it’s been a roller coaster of emotional insecurities. Sometimes, I really like it. Most times, though, I don’t. Despite the fact that so many people have complimented me on my pixie cut - I continue to have a love/hate relationship with it. And, your point about the maintenance that is involved in having a pixie cannot be understated. That has been the biggest lesson for me in all of this. If you want to get a pixie, you have to have the understanding that it is NOT a no-maintenance hair style. You absolutely have to style it every single day. Despite all of this, I am SO proud of myself for being brave enough to actually go through with chopping off my hair. We’ll see how much longer I keep it before deciding to grow it out, but, with that being said, I absolutely do not regret getting a pixie. I think every woman should at least, once in her life, chop it off. It truly is a liberating experience.

So many great points! It kinda drives me crazy as a hair stylist that people leave the back long for an unintentional unstyled mullet that is very avoidable. I’m growing mine out from a buzz and I would rather it take longer and shape it it along the way than power through and look really bad for 8 months.

I’m 18 and I’m obsessed with how beautiful the pixie cut is, I’ve loved short hair on women since I watched demi Moore in ghost. I feel like a lot of women including myself hide behind their hair and put a lot of value in it. My hair has always been my shield since I don’t like my face very much and im insecure. However I feel like pixie hair no matter how you look brings out your natural beauty and you see something that wouldn’t otherwise be there if you’re hair was covering you up. I know this was a very elaborate and dramatic view but that’s how I feel ❤

Thank you for talking about avoiding the mullet! Everyone told me that it was going to look so bad once I got to that point, but trimming and layering once in a while can help you to avoid that so easily 😭

I’m getting the same pixie that you repeatedly had in your Pinterest board. The one where it isn’t closely shaved, has bangs and has an almost romantic style. I also don’t want it looking punk or Karen like haha. It is happening in 3 days and I am so excited. I have had people discourage me from it and people who are so excited for me. I have known I wanted this cut for over three months but wanted to wait to grow out my hair to donate as much as I could, since hair donation requires sometimes at least 12 inches. I’m not too scared about the styling because I have wavy/curly hair, so I am used to it’s needs. I’m just excited to be daring. This video got me even more excited for it.

Hi Phoebe, thank you for this video. I just got a shaved pixie last month and found out i have strange looing cowlicks in the back so now I am wait for it to grow to a point where the cowlicks can be incorporated into a cute style. Also no regrets. This experience is priceless!

Pixie cuts and bobs were MADE for you omg. You look SO good with a pixie miss girl. You should've tried some different pixie styles before growing it back out. The mantainence and inconsistent confidence is understandable tho!

you honestly look amazing and better with a pixie and this shorter hairstyle... And everything you said about attractiveness is 1000% on point. It is just a social (mostly patriarchal) construct and it changes ALL THE TIME. Thus, we should just play with our style and rock it any way it lands atm!!! Cutting hair short can be liberating and a chance to fully understand where your attractiveness comes from, which is def not from a hair or haircut. (Not to say hair shouldn't be important to a person..) It is TRAGIC tho that that many "hairstylists" can botch you and cause a huge emotional distress... It should really be under some law, the possible damages done... I also learned this the hard way, and from now on if I smell a hairdresser who doesn't listen to me or isn't skilled, I promised myself I will get up from the chair and leave, before the damage, or at least too much damage is done! Bravo for the real talk and courage. I've been in your boots, and still am, and I am starting to think the same! 🌺🌺✨✨✨

I too by accident, have a pixie. I had asked for a trim, instead she cut it all off! Sooo, like you I had to accept it. I’m now growing it out. It took me a while to accept it. I have forgiven my stylist. Will I go back to her, probably not. But, I guess I didn’t realize how much my looks define me. Like you…a lot of lessons. Thank you so much for your honesty! thanks for sharing! I recently cut off all my long thick bleached hair for a pixie cut a few months ago. I am currently growing it out mainly because I miss doing braids (Some days, I like my edgy pixie, and other days I miss styling my long braids. There's no in-between for me :,)). I never obsessed with how the back of my head looked until I got the pixie haha. I don't regret chopping it all off as I also experimented a lot with different (damaging) styles in the past, but I do wish I had the growing-out phases more in mind as you mentioned. This time though, I plan to not bleach my hair so that if I feel impulsive and want to chop it off again in the far future, I can donate my hair to feel more good about it.

I cut my hair in the beginning of last year and again in February this year (pixie both times) and ever since I saw Ursula Corbero from La Casa De Papel as Tokyo, I knew I wanted that hairstyle. First time I was brunette, second time blonde and idk which one looked better. If I ever decide to go that short, I will pick her hairstyle again because I love it so much.

One thing I struggle with is I want to take this jump but I get a little nervous that people will say that I looked better with longer hair or that. I’ve asked my friends and they all say I love my long hair so it makes it a little nerve racking!!!

Honestly? I think you looked lovely and cute with that pixie, but that's not important, what's important is that you do whatever you feel like. I happened to try a rather punky/edgy pixie with an undercut, very textured and longer on top, longer whispy bangs several years ago, because I saw a guy with make up wearing his hair that way and I was like "If a guy can look feminine with such a hair cut, why do I worry about looking too masculine with short hair?!". (I always liked that particular hairstyle but never dared to try it. It's similar to Pink's hairstyle, but not the exact same.) And it turned out to be my favorite hairstyle of all time. I always come back to it ever since and I feel most like myself when I have my hair cut like this. My second favorite haircut is a mullet though and that's something I tend to grow back every now and then, but I don't feel it as much anymore. It's not the "best" anymore. I also liked a super layered a-line bob on me or even a short layered haircut (like bob with short layers and a face frame), but I HATE having long hair. Not because of how it looks, but how it feels. I have my ways to style each length pretty easily ever since I understood my hair's texture, but the pixie with the undercut is just it for me. BUT I am aware that pixies are not for everyone. Definitely not. It all depends on what you like and how you REALLY wanna look like. It isn't even that important if it is "the most flattering" hairstyle for you, it's about how it makes you feel. The things you described and how you felt when you had your pixie was actually exactly how I felt the one time I had a buzzcut. It did the exact same thing for me as your pixie did for you. And I appreciate that. Ever since I did this, I feel no attachment to my hair anymore. If my hair looks funny, I don't care. It's more like a "oh well, so be it" and then I go about my day. But tbh, if I wasn't able to cut and color my own hair, I would NEVER have my hair the way I wear it now. My hair does grow fairly quickly and I need to touch up that undercut every other week or I'll really look funny. That's also why I never grow my hair out during spring or summer, always during autumn and winter, when I CAN wear a beanie all day. I just love to experiment with different hairstyles, so I sometimes wanna grow my hair a bit longer to achieve different looks. But still... that pixie I have now? Feels most like myself. It's also so easy to style and take care of. I wet it in the morning, blow dry it, add wax, done. Not more than 5 minutes to do that and if I really don't wanna do much, I just add styling paste and wear it back (which doesn't even take a full minute). I remember when I had shoulder length hair and it took at least 30 minutes to make it look the way I wanted it... If I had very long hair, I'd wear it up all the time anyways, so long hair really doesn't make sense in my case. As soon as my hair gets even only remotely close to my shoulders, it makes me go crazy... wigs are fine though, coz I know I can take them off by the end of the day. I still prefer to wear a-line bob wigs rather than really long ones. I once cut a girls hair to a similar pixie that I wear, because she REALLY wanted it. But it wasn't for her at all. Not because it looked bad, but because she hated everything about it (besides the way it looked). And that can happen to anyone. Don't get caught up on how something looks. Always consider what it might feel like, what comes with it and leaves with the length you had before, etc.

If you ever cut it short again? Get a silk scarf; it'll smooth it and keep your style without having to wet and redo it. I tie mine up every night and brush it out in the morning

I got a pixie a few years ago and I also didn’t know what I really wanted .. I ended up with that squared look and I didn’t love that .. in my opinión it looked masculine .. but I didn’t love having a pixie and finally just doing it !

Hi, I love your vibe, I am the same, except I started with a buzz cut, I’m glad I did it too, will I do it again, no I won’t either 😂 at least not until I am retired. Then I might consider it. You end up needing a hat more with short hair especially as it grows out as it’s hard to keep looking neat and tidy… which can be an issue if you are applying for jobs etc. as is my current situation 😅

I shaved my head bald about 2.5 years ago and then grew it out to a pixie and had a pixie for a while now mostly bc the grow out phase is so awkward and ugly I kept trimming it so I wouldn’t look dumb. Where I get confused in the grow out is should I trim it? Should I cut some parts and let others grow out so it looks better or just look dumb and grow out all my hair at once. I also don’t like going to the salon bc I have basically a men’s hair style but have to pay 50$ bc I’m a girl instead of the 30$ men pay (at my salon) but then they don’t even know how to cut and style short hair bc that’s not their thing. Ugh

She has always had shorter hair and loved it but don’t like this, just too masculine.I can’t help but look at videos wishing she would grow it back and how long it will take. I feel like a horrible BF but I also can’t help what I am physically attracted to. So stuck. She knows how I feel for the most part, maybe not to the degree. I will get over it with time I hope. I do think she thinks it will be easier to manage but like you mentioned I don’t think that will be the case especially with winter (hat season) coming. She says she likes it but I think she likes the change in style more. She has always liked changing her style but never to this degree.

I cut all my hair a few years back. I regret it more than anything. I havent grown my hair much after it i kept it pretty short. I have like a short middlepart. I never grew it because it felt like it took too long and the phases in between were awkward. I feel like short hair suits me, but im very insecure about it. Many people assume im lesbian bcs my hair is more "masc' but im not (nothin wrong with it tho). It has made me feel like no guy could like me and thats why im so insecure. And i just feel like i cant grow it bcs the phases in between wouldnt suit me. Any tips?

Since i was a teen and i cut my hair bob cut my family was upset telling me i just destroy the best thing i did i had my hair bob or bit longer for over 46 years because my husband would never want short hair one year after he died i had my pixie i just love it but grows very fast

You're gorgeous with your pixie... Maybe you should reconsider having one done again and keep it for a while and hav e it maintained on a regular basis to keep it looking good, maybe 1 year or 2 before deciding definitively if it's for you. If you just do it once and let it immediately regrow, you actually will never know if you really love it , especially considering how the fresh cut looked hot on you. Maybe should you have went shorter around the ears and in the nape and considered the time to cut it again was 2-3 weeks after the length of your fresh cut...
