Some questions that I missed/forgot Can there be a work life balance as a KZfaq editor? - Yes and no. You can do this as a normal 9-5 job if you have enough clients who upload regularly but if you're trying to succeed in the industry then you will need to put in tons of hours. For the first 3 years of doing this, I had no life, only work and even right now that I have people helping me out, I still work a minimum of 2-4 hours every single day, even if I'm on "vacation". Is sharing a revenue split with the creator a good way to earn money? - If the creator is smaller and you're only doing the revenue split then you won't be earning any money, this mostly only works if the creators are getting 100k+ views per video. And even in that case, it's a hard thing to pull off because if you're not the only person who is editing for them or you haven't personally made all the videos, searching for your specific edited videos every single month takes so much work that you might need to hire a separate person just to calculate it all. It works in my case as I'm a channel manager, I don't only deal with editing but literally everything that happens on the channel without the creator having to do anything at all and my position is to calculate how much budget I have for editors. You can be overqualified for KZfaq editing - When I started, I knew After Effects quite well and doing more basic editing was way easier so at some point I felt like I wasn't being paid enough for the hours that I put in but the fact is that I was overqualified. If you're a content creator, you don't need to hire some industry veteran who costs a ton when the same work can be done by a person who is just starting out because the quality isn't on such a high level on KZfaq. When I figured that out, I stopped trying to learn cool new effects and started trying to improve my editing speed instead. Within 3 months, I had gotten 50% faster but since the payment was project based, I was still getting the same amount of money. During the editing section, I throw in constant power transitions between clips, I didn't explain clearly why I was doing that. It's because when you make cuts and the audio waveforms don't line up between clips (so the previous clip is louder than the new clip) then there will be an audible pop and to remedy that, I add a 2 frame long audio transition just to smoothen it out. Premiere has a shortcut (ctrl+shift+D) to add a transition between the clips you have selected. It will use the default transition unless you change it. The same can be done for video, a shortcut (ctrl+D) will add the default transition to video clips (which is just a fade transition unless you've changed it)

Do you have any advice on how to edit scripted videos more quickly/efficiently? As in content that starts with audio and needs a visual to be applied, rather than being able to start with a visual that can be cut together. I want to improve, but scripted content has an inverted workflow to the one you demonstrated in the video.

I completely agree with your take on Thumbnails! In a limited space you want to convey to the audience a mini story, a quick tease of what to come. When Mudan give me a prompt / idea, I would consider the Rule of 3s and having a focal point for each thumbnail. You don't want to make it too busy otherwise our eyes tend to look away from it. Gotta make it clear and straight to the point. Also, if anyone hire an artist, please don't send your editor one thumbnail and call it a day. There's times they want to suggest a different idea etc. Work with your editor, give them more than one sketch of the idea. It helps to iron out the concept and both make a mutual agreement on the thumbnail. ✨✨✨

Noticed you don't have a custom keyboard shortcut for Keyframe Temporal Interpolation, also known as Ease In and Ease Out. In Keyboard Shortcuts search for: - Keyframe Temporal interpolation - Ease In - Keyframe Temporal interpolation - Ease Out - Keyframe Temporal interpolation - Linear Making shortcuts for these was one of the best speed and quality of life hack I have done recently. (I do a lot of custom keyframing.)

I'm an editor myself and I am a huge advocate of using adjustment layers and making presets. They are by far one of, if not the most fundamental tools available in any editing software, and is the reason why I despise using vegas pro as it did not have adjustment layers until very, very recently. I do almost all of my zooms and transformations on adjustment layers as I can easily copy them around the timeline, and for repetitive things I make presets so I don't have to remake everything from scratch.

As a video editor for a +1mil subbed KZfaq channel, I can confirm that the information in this video is valid. However, Mudan doesn't handhold you in any way, so it's probably not the best guide for absolute beginners. Feels more like the information you would hear from a conversation between two established video editors sharing tips and ticks. As such, I fucking love this. Picked up couple of quality of life hacks that I totally need to add to my workflow. Thanks mate. 🤗
