In this video, I bring my RuggedMade 22-ton push-through log splitter to my friend's wood yard for a test run. My friend Chris, who previously used a 40-ton county line horizontal/vertical splitter, is eager to see if the push-through splitter can increase his firewood production efficiency.

I just got one and am putting it together Monday. Looks awesome. I only split softwood so this will be perfect. Thanks for sharing.

I have the same splitter. Been running it a little over 2 years. U can wedge a peace of wood so it pushes the log to the side to knock it loose or if it's really stuck just use the 1 way wedge to split around it and it will pop right off.

Just put mine together and split a 16 foot trailer load last weekend. It’s far better than our old 22 ton brave, without a doubt. The only engine/pump option available when I bought mine was the 6.5hp raven and 13gpm pump. It struggles with the 4 way when I get into some nasty stuff, but if I single wedge a nasty one in half first the 4 way works fine. We split all hardwoods; oak, hickory, hard maple, etc. For the money and what the unit actually is, I have zero complaints. It’s what I could afford and it definitely makes life way easier!

That’s what I tell everyone. It does great work for a quarter of the cost of the big brand names.

What are your impressions of the Raven engine? I don't know much about them.
@jorrick66

@@edrem9483 I have no complaints out of it. It’s rumored to be the same as the predator engines sold at harbor freight, which are supposedly a Honda clone. It starts every time, runs smooth, and splits everything I put on the beam. I wouldn’t let it sway my decision to buy one. They’re no eastonmade or Wolfe ridge, but for what they are, they do just fine.

I have the same wood splutter what I did was change the hubs it to the hubs so I could put a larger tire on it and it brought it up higher I'm 61 and it brought it up just where I liked it of course I did have to roll a little more length on the log left but it does work real well

Great idea, did you just leave the legs at stock height and run the splitter at a little if a downward angle?

What I do with the knotty pieces that get stuck on the wedge that I can’t knock off the wedge with sledgehammer is take my saw and cut very carefully in front of the wedge. If the wood is flush with the I beam below it finish it off with a reciprocating saw then remove what was cut and push another piece thru and it will clear itself

Great video on this machine. I wonder why you didn't put the splitter closer to your wood pile ?

That was his call, I asked him why we wernt doing that and he shrugged his shoulders. Guess we though we were still young and in shape.

Well it is a 'Push Through', so why was he trying to pull everything out of the 4 way before pushing through the next piece of wood. Surely the next piece would have pushed the previous piece out onto the table. I don't mean the first pieces that needed splitting again but the second time around smaller ones. As for the splitter, I think I prefer the ram being secured at the end of a longer beam. I was watching your one shaking up and down quite a lot.

I think he just wasn’t familiar with all the technique yet. He’s never used a push through style. Thanks for watching!

Let your friend have his 40 ton splitter. Most of the wood I cut is 20" or less. The RuggedMade is perfect for that.

Has anybody ever recommended for you to put duct tape for a skateboard on your loading Edge for your splitter so it don't slide around it's almost like put down a sheet of sandpaper

I'm about to order this same splitter, I split roughly 12-15 cords a year to heat our old farm house with 2 wood stoves and 1 fireplace , and sell about 30 cords roughly to make some extra cash when work slows down in the winter, after having it for awhile , do you regret not getting a different modle?

Nope. This splitter has gone through every single piece of wood I’ve ever thrown at it. I’m quite impressed. I do have the large engine and higher flow pump on it though. Purchased those as factory options. If a piece won’t go through the 4 way it goes through the single knife with ease

@EverythingElliott good to hear, thanks for the feed back. I been using a old 27 ton troy built , and it takes me all summer to split what I need , like 5 hrs a day after work everyday to get what u need , I need something with a 4 way that can split a bit faster then the 19 sec cycle time , it's very time consuming. Happy splitting !

@@chrismoss875 I have a video where I split a whole log truck with this splitter, got 13 face cord out of it and I believe my total time splitting was about 8 hours. The log lift makes a huge difference. You should check out my “firewood” playlist!

The only time I’ve had issues is when I try to split a log that has a large branch kicker. But I usually take the 4 way off and it just splits it on the straight blade no issues.
