I love the color choice of the blue/green as the base color. That makes those other colors really pop out of the soap! Great job, lavender IS hard to pick the flowers from all those flimsy stalks. Had a lavender garden myself, great smell across the yard, used to weave 1/8" ribbons in and around a fist full of lavender stalks & flowers to hang in my closets. Good as cedar.

this is one of most beautiful soaps I have ever seen. I am trying to learn how to make soap, but it takes a long time to learn! So much to know. I am in awe!! Question: was that lye and water mix that you added at the beginning from the pitcher? You didn't say, and I haven't watched enough of your videos yet (but I will!). I was just guessing that was lye and water. Thanks
@EvesGardenSoaps9 жыл бұрын

Beautiful soap, I just love lavender! Why did you want to do gel phase, would you isolate if it was going to? What is the different ?
@EvesGardenSoaps8 жыл бұрын
Hello ~ thank you for watching my video and the nice compliment. To answer your question, letting soap go through gel phase speeds up the saponification process, and the soap can be cut usually after 24 hours. Preventing gel phase by refrigeration is slower, taking up to 3 days. However, it is preferable under some circumstances. Using milk and/or titanium dioxide can cause overheating (cracking on top, fragrance oil leaking, etc.)and/or glycerine rivers (crackling). These negative aspects occur during gel phase, so preventing it helps to achieve a beautiful soap result. It just takes a little longer. I hope this helps, and happy soaping! :) ione eve

Ione I have Russian lavender and it is fuzzy and lovely smelling!!! I put it in and on my soap LOVE IT and TFS
@EvesGardenSoaps8 жыл бұрын
+BL Meyer Hi Brenda ~ your Russian lavender sounds divine. I usually get English lavender and it's very strong. I usually cut it with sweet patchouli for a softer, more floral smell. Where do you get your lavender? I wouldn't mind trying some. :) ione

***** Hi Amy ~ thank you for the gracious compliments. I appreciate hearing from you. To answer your question, there really isn't a way to know for sure what oils will remain for superfats in cold processed soap. By adding certain ones after trace starts, one hopes they will be the last to saponify, but there is no guarantee. If you find any information that adds more clarification in this matter, I would sure like to know. Some of my videos were made before coming to this realization ~ probably this one, from your question, LOL! :) ione eve

you have such beautiful soaps! I am getting ready to make my first soap, and I am confused. Would you share the reasons you decide to gel and not gel soaps. I dont want to end up with the discoloration in the middle. I have watched soaping 101 about it, and also soap queen but I don't get it, ( humming if I only had a brain from wizard of oz, lol). Please help, thank you
@EvesGardenSoaps9 жыл бұрын
Hi Cindi ~ thank you for watching the video and commenting. Making soap is an exciting and rewarding activity ~ and one you are constantly learning something new in. I love gelled soaps. The colors are brighter and they get hard faster. What you describe as discoloration in the middle is called partial gel ~ occurring when there is not enough heat to penetrate to the edge. In winter I wrap the soaps in a blanket for 24 hours to gel. In summer it's too hot for that, so I loosely wrap and unwrap keeping a close eye-out for over-heating. The sides of the mold should be warm, but not hot. Overheating causes glycerine rivers and super fats/fragrances to pool and leak out. There are some recipes I don't gel. Soaps made with milks and/or a heavy dose of titanium dioxide. These soaps I sit out at room temp and feel the sides of the mold frequently. Milks tend to over-heat with no provocation, so if they start getting hot I put them in the fridge. Soaps with TD, I usually always just put in the fridge for at least the first 12 hours. Soaps that are not gelled take longer to get hard. I usually wait 3 days to un-mold them. I hope this info helps. Best of luck with your soap-making endeavors! I would love to hear how it all goes if you get the chance. Bye for now. :) ione eve

Hi I loveeeeeeeeee this video, I do have a question (I’m new to the soap making) what is glycerin rivers?
@EvesGardenSoaps5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ashley ~ Thank you for watching my video and your lovely compliment. I appreciate it very much. Welcome to the soap making community. I hope you will enjoy making soap as much as I do! To answer your question, glycerine rivers are small, worm-looking condensed glycerine where it has separated from the rest of the soap. Sometimes the soap looks crackled. This happens when a recipe contains milk and/or titanium dioxide and the soap overheats during gel phase. With these recipes, I've found that putting the soap in the refrigerator prevents gel phase and in turn, no glycerine rivers. Refrigerated soap does take a day or two longer to set up, but it's worth it to me. Happy soaping! :) ione

I bought this soap and it smells lovely, it feels really good too. I love how your soaps look and feel so smooth. I'm glad to see your Strawberry Field soaps are back in stock. Got one :) Would you mind sharing how you mixed Kaolin Clay in with EO? Just Kaolin clay with EO or did you add any oils with the mix? Did you mix it up with a brother? Your soap looks so smooth. I want to try Kaolin Clay but I'm afraid I'll get clay clumps in my soap. Thank you for your time! I really appreciate it!

Hi An ~ I'm very happy you are pleased with your soaps and appreciate your sweet compliments. Thank you! To answer your question, kaolin clay dissolves easily. I mix it directly with the essential oil. The oil seeps into the clay particles and the scent "fixes" there. For citrus eo's I also use benzoin powder to fix the scent. Keeping their scent is harder, and a mineral rather than/or with clay seems to help. I do use a frother to mix with. It can get very bubbly ~ so allow room in the container. I hope this helps, and best of luck with making soap! :) ione eve

EvesGardenSoaps Thank you so much for your clear explanation! Sorry I forgot to ask. Can you do the same with Fragrance Oils?
@EvesGardenSoaps9 жыл бұрын
An Ho Fragrance oils don't need "fixing" they are made to hold their scent. That's why many soap-makers prefer using them. When adding kaolin clay to a recipe that is scented with a fragrance oil, I mix it with a little olive oil then add it to my base oils before the lye solution. Happy soaping! :) ione eve

I want to start using EO in my soaps. Just feel so unsure about how much to add. In this recipe how much Patchouli did you add? I know you said just a little bit but what is a little bit? I've smelled Patchouli & lavender soap and liked it. I'm sure yours smells wonder. I know it is beautiful !! Thank you for advice on EO amounts.

Hi Angela ~ thank you for watching the video and the thoughtful comment. To answer your question on the essential oils, they all differ in safe usage amounts so you need to research what you are using. In this recipe I used a total of 3.5% of the oil weight. 3/4 of that was lavender and 1/4 was patchouli. I hope this helps. btw ~ It did turn out smelling really nice. Best of luck in your soap making endeavors! :) ione eve

TY, I figured it was a small amount of patchouli since it's so intense. And I will do lots of research. :O)
