Thanks for the review. First of the specifics. 1)I'm 6'3", 235lbs 2)I live in Central Fl. A flat state, but I do ride technical, varied terrain. I take trips to North Carolina to ride their trails. NC's trails are more varied and can have a lot of climbing (compared to FL). I'm coming off a 2006 SC Nomad. I was interested in the Wreckoning, but starting to thinks it's overkill. I'm a fan of Evil, please feel to recommend one of their other bikes.

Hi Tim. I would say the Following is probably what'd suit you the best from Evil's current line up. Check out our review of that bike here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/npdygZd-ls6niWg.html. We will also be releasing a review of a couple of Ibis Cycles' bikes later today or tomorrow, which are worth checking out as well. Stay tuned for that! Great vid guy's. If your trail riding consisted of a mix of flatfish trail to rocky technical descents would you go for the wreckoning? Also does this bike have the raw speed of something like the E29? Cheers 👍🏻

A few reviews have said that the insurgent can be noise(chain slap) just wondering did you have any trouble with this on rough and rooty trails
@FanatikBikeCo
@FanatikBikeCo 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Anthony, For what is otherwise a very quiet bike, chain slap can be heard on rougher trails. This results from the very small (10t) rear cogs that today's drivetrains accommodate, especially when combined with a small (28t) chainring. It causes the chain to sit very close to the stay when in low gears. One solution to this is to run a cassette with a higher range, like the 46t XT cassette or SRAM Eagle, and a larger (32 or 34t, for example) chainring. This keeps the chain higher, and away from the stay. Best, Dan at Fanatik

@FanatikBikeCo
@FanatikBikeCo 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Niidea1986, thank you for watching. No not all disc brakes sound like that, although any disc brake can sound like that in wet conditions. It seems to be a more frequent occurrence with Shimano brakes than SRAM brakes, although I wouldn't say that that is a deal braker when choosing brakes. I personally really like the feel and simplicity of maintaining Shimano brakes. It does often come down to a personal preference, deals you can find, etc. Best, Dan at Fanatik

Hey Wojtek, I don't think that was covered in this video. Jadyn is 5' 7" and riding the small Insurgent and Dan is 5' 10" and on the medium Wreckoning. The Wreckoning is a big bike for sure, with it's 160mm of travel, but once you jump on one you quickly forget about that and realize how maneuverable the bike is for being such a beast! They call it the mistake eraser around the shop. Thanks for watching, Brian at Fanatik

MTB & Koi pond channel, thanks for watching the video! The Insurgent is a pretty darn good climber, that being said it isn't going to climb as well as something with a bit less travel. However, if your looking for a bike that can get you down steep technical terrain or that you can spend a bit of time in the bike park, while still being able to pedal to the top of the mountain, this could be a great option for you. Thanks, Brian at Fanatik

Hi Sandro, Sorry for the late response! You fall smack dab in the size large Wreckoning and Insurgent. Both Jadyn and I found the we like the Wreckoning better overall. Not only do the big wheels make pedalling uphill go more smoothly, they also help you maintain a ton of speed on the downs, noticeably more than the Insurgent. As such, I'd personally recommend the Wreckoning. If you want a more in depth comparison of the two bikes, check out our written review on the Fanatik blog. www.fanatikbike.com/blogs/engage/evil-the-insurgent-and-the-wreckoning-review Best, Dan at Fanatik

awesome vid guys keep it up! just a quick question, im looking to buy my next bike, and i cant pick between these 2 bikes. im 5'10 and a half and i ride and race enduro plus i love a bit of downhill action from time to time which would you suggest? Also how does the wreckoning ride when faced with tight technical stuff that i sometimes, occasionally come across? Many thanks.
@FanatikBikeCo
@FanatikBikeCo 8 жыл бұрын
+joseph ingle Hi Joseph, The Wreckoning is definitely the destroyer of all worlds, and it will be tough to beat when it comes to confidence on the descents. As far as tight/technical or less steep singletetrack, the Wreckoning won't excel there quite as much, but it will still hold its own. It will really boil down to what type of riding you prioritize. Are you prioritizing the gnarly/technical downhills, or are you more of any every day trail rider? If the latter is true, then I'd say check out the Insurgent or Following. If you're more gravity minded, the Wreckoning will definitely be the ticket. Feel free to contact me at sales@fanatikbike.com if you'd like to chat more. Thanks! Jadyn

+joseph ingle I have the insurgent and so far i have been loving it. what i have to compare it to is my friend's s-works stumpjumper 6fattie. i have ridden both on the same trails and i can say that the evil is much more composed in the corners and the suspension is sublime. the 6fattie feels twitchy at speed and during haerd cornering, but it is a little bit easier to get up the trail. I have not ridden the wreckoning but i would say that it would be able to go over bumpier terrain with a little less effort. i love my insurgent because the 27.5 wheels make the ride that much more lively. it all depends on how and where you ride though.

+Dan P What are you guys recommending for riders that fall on the extremes of the size recommendations from Evil? I'm 5'11"-6', pretty evenly proportioned. Normally I end up going up to a large when I fall between sizes, but not sure on this one. I ride a large in all the Pivot stuff (429SL, 429Trail, Mach 6), Specialized (2016 Stumpjumper 29 & 650, Enduro 29) as examples. Typically with a 35-50mm stem. Any thoughts? I'm looking at the medium, but not sure whether or not I should bump up.
@thegodfther13
@thegodfther13 8 жыл бұрын
+Dan P When I was considering the Following, I was definitely planning to go for the large.
@thegodfther13
@thegodfther13 8 жыл бұрын
+Dan P Appreciate the info. I'm definitely looking at the Wreckoning. Sounds like at 5'10" you either prefer a slightly smaller bike or you are near the top end of height scale that you would recommend for the Medium. What made you size down from the Large Following? What are some other trail bikes that fit you well, and what frame size. Sorry to hit you with so many questions, just don't think I'll get a chance to throw a leg over one, and I want to get the sizing right. Cheers!
@FanatikBikeCo
@FanatikBikeCo 8 жыл бұрын
+Rick Brown The sizing for the Following differs than that of the Wreckoning and the Insurgent. I would say for these two bikes I am smack dab in the middle of the medium size. I actually had to drop my stem size down from 50mm to a 35mm to feel at home on the Insurgent and the Wreckoning, as they are such long bikes. I always have ridden a medium bike, from a Transition Patrol and Covert 27.5 to many of the Yeti bikes, to Ibis and Devinci.

witch bike has the better climbing efficiency, the 2017 enduro 29er elite or the wreckoning, i live close to xc trails but love to travel to pisgah nc
@FanatikBikeCo
@FanatikBikeCo 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Rusty, I'd say both bikes are probably pretty similar in terms of efficiency on the climbs. I rode the Enduro 29 a couple of years ago but haven't been on the new one yet so I can't say for sure, but I can definitely say that the Wreckoning is one of the funnest bikes I have ever ridden. Thanks, Brian at Fanatik
@rustythornton3147
@rustythornton3147 7 жыл бұрын
I'm torn between the two evils and the enduro, I just don't want something that totally sucks on uphill\xc riding because I do ride that more often than the gnarly stuff, but pointing a bike down a mountain and feeling comfortable is what I love. I've just read the wrecking dosnt climb very well due to the slack seat tube mainly
@FanatikBikeCo
@FanatikBikeCo 7 жыл бұрын
I am 5'10" and while I am definitely willing to give up some climbing ability to maximize my fun on the downhill, I didn't really notice the seat tube angle making much of a difference. I have heard that the taller you are the worse the seat tube angle with affect the way the bike climbings. Both the Wreckoning and Enduro 29 are a bit bulky when pushing them up steep switchbacks or anything like that.... -Brian at Fanatik
@rustythornton3147
@rustythornton3147 7 жыл бұрын
Are you riding a medium? I know this bike is geared more towards enduro style riding but do you think you would be cussing this bike on xc style tracks or do you think it would still be fun to ride just for fun and staying in shape, I promise this is my last question haha
@FanatikBikeCo
@FanatikBikeCo 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was on a medium, the large would fit me as well but I do like a smaller frame for maneuverability. It is definitely a lot of bike and if I was riding XC trails 80% of the time I would probably go with something more like the Following of the Calling. The Following climbs great and has those big wheels to help smooth out technical sections of trail and maintain speed. The Calling also pedals very well but is more poppy and playful, definitely geared toward maximum fun.
