Hope you all enjoyed our version of the Necronomicon Ex Mortis. For this re-creation we chose to take it in more of a stylized version than a screen accurate one.
The base for this is an old textbook. I wrapped it with 3 mm craft foam and then used Cosplay Crafts cosplay clay for the detailed work. I used acrylic paints for the all the painting and weathering of the book. The pages of the Necronomicon were weathered with tea, watercolors, Indian ink, and fire.
Thank you to Elder props for taking the time to re-create the pages and then being nice enough to share the PDFs. Here is the link to his hard work. elderprops.com/necronomicon-ev...

Hello, this is the best one I've found. Your work is excellent. I watched many of these trying to figure what the best course would be to make one myself for my nephew, who is so into all this. Thank you for making it a tutorial and giving the other info. It's been very helpful. My only question is what did you do for the spine? I've seen where its been said the foam clay cracks.
@MagneticNerdsCreate
@MagneticNerdsCreate 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much😊😊😊. The spin just has a very thin layer of foam clay, and so far, it’s still flexible enough to do what we do with it. But we are not opening and closing it all the time, it’s mainly a prop in the background of our set.

Is that leather the material you used for the first layer of covering? And did you apply glue before the clay? 🤔

I'm going to be using this as my guide for my own Necronomicon. Looks awesome. I hope my turns out half as cool. My only gripe is, why did you print the pages in black ink?! Looks super awesome though.
@MagneticNerdsCreate
@MagneticNerdsCreate 3 жыл бұрын
that's awesome!!! We'd love to see your finished book. As for the pages, our printer is only a black and white one, annnnnnnd it was a little bit lazy cause we didn't want to go out to get a color print. plus, the cover is really the star of the show for this particular prop.

@MagneticNerdsCreate

yes its foam clay
@jeancaceres7670
@jeancaceres7670 4 жыл бұрын
One stupid question: so the clay foam adheres automatically to the foam base, because it's the same material, right? Do you have to add water and pressure? Great sculpt, by the way -one of the best I seen!
@MagneticNerdsCreate
@MagneticNerdsCreate 3 жыл бұрын
not a dumb question at all! The foam clay is slightly sticky while it is wet. As it dries it loses its stickiness, so he water does help with adhesion, and also keeps it wet and pliable for you to sculpt in your design. Its kinda like play dough, you shouldnt have to press too hard to get it into the shape you want.

@@MagneticNerdsCreate how does the clay get hard, do you have to coat it with something or just let dry?
@patricimusprime9246
@patricimusprime9246 2 жыл бұрын
@@Antara755 you just let the foam clay air dry.

so im guessing the materials as listed are in order to when they appear in the video. so the wood glue goes over the cosplay clay that is used to make the wrinkles and the face as a kind of sealer for the paints right?
@MagneticNerdsCreate
@MagneticNerdsCreate 3 жыл бұрын
Actually, the materials are listed in the order that I remembered them lol. The wood glue was thinned way out and used as an adhesion enhancer for attaching the foam clay to the book. The sculpted foam clay is whats making the wrinkles on the face. I sealed everything in with Mod Podge.

Looks great. What is the durability of the cos clay?
@MagneticNerdsCreate
@MagneticNerdsCreate Жыл бұрын
The foam clay is really durable. When it dries it is basically like a light EVA foam. Rigid enough to hold a shape, yet still has some give and flexibility.

hi, could you tell me what kind of glue you use to attach the clay to the book? Thanks
@MagneticNerdsCreate
@MagneticNerdsCreate 4 жыл бұрын
HI! I used some thinned out wood glue(any water based glue would work too), but i do not need to do that step. I did it because i wanted a little bit extra durability. The foam clay will stick on its own as long as the surface your applying it to is porous.
