I'm mad both at the wife and the boss doctor. Neither of them understand this guy. He heals and saves lives for a living, and he gets little thanks for it. Imagine if it weren't for that kind lady patient. I think she probably saved his marriage. If you have a soldier, firefighter, cop, or medical professional as a spouse, please don't be a selfish POS and understand their duty and sacrifices. Unfortunately, they can't always be there for you. Don't count on them every step of the way all the time. Emergencies and dire situations don't take a vacation. Besides, Thanksgiving isn't such an important holiday. It's not the end of the world if you can't see your loved ones on a particular day.

The way I see it, if bosses forbid their employees from spending Thanksgiving or Christmas with their families, either don't care about their own families or don't have families for themselves.

I don't know how the system in U.S works. Where i come from, major holidays are at least triple pay for a staff to stay on. Regardless of race or nationality. Even my family would not question my decision. If there were others that want me to cover their shift? Sure! But i expect to be paid.

The insane thing is that he was the only one there. That would not be allowed at any hospital because it's impossible to keep an ER running with one man there. Plus not to mention how at any point an accident can happen due to the travel going on and if it's major it'll overrun that one doctor.

When I was 15 I spent a few months at a rehab hospital for kids, they had this thing in place called a TLD, can't find reference to what mine entailed as all the other results shown don't quite cover this, but essentially a TLD allowed for my mother to leave the hospital taking me out to malls, and a couple of times back home for Christmas and New Year's, but I would have to be back to the hospital by eight, which sucked back then cause I would be left at the hospital while mom had to go home, but my point being is that there may be a policy that could allow you to sign the patient out under medical custody, but not really sure
