Evil Emma LeDoux & the Trunk Murder of Hubby in Stockton

Emma LeDoux will go down in Stockton history as one of the most villainous women who was known for scamming men of their money and marrying men and taking at least two of them out for life insurance. Husband number 2, Albert McVicker, was estranged from Emma while she married Eugene LeDoux. She didn't bother to divorce Albert but decided to take him out in a wicked plot.
Jeff takes this episode of History Hunters to the train station where this explosive story broke out on March 24, 1906, the California House where the homicide took place and show you the trunk she used to store his body. The trunk is in the Haggin Museum which is also where many numerous Yosemite paintings of Alfred Bierstadt are on display.
The episode ends at the Stockton Rural Cemetery to visit the grave of San Joaquin Sheriff Walter "Frank" Sibley who arrested Emma two days after the discovery of the body in the trunk.

I worked for one of the Holt companies. Every time that I traveled to Stockton to go to the office there always were pictures of what Mr. Holt had done for the community and for the country. It was an honor to have been part of that legacy. Your ability to articulate the stories that you educate us on is always very refreshing and appreciated. In the late 70’s early 80’s my mom, sister and I use to take the Amtrak from Fresno to Stockton. We probably walked over the very spot where the trunk was found. My aunt took us to that museum as children. My cousin had told us this story as kids I thought he was trying to scare us. Stockton was and still is a rough place. I’ve had two cousins murdered there. She should have been called Emma La Crackhead lol. I’ll have to visit Find A Grave to see the headstones and comments left. Jeff, another great video thank you for your research 🧐! I visited find a grave her grave is unmarked but Ron with Faces of the Forgotten took a picture of site.

Any "debate" as to whether he was alive or dead when jammed into that trunk is rendered moot by all the blood. Dead bodies don't bleed. He was undoubtedly unconscious due to the morphine, but not dead... yet. He would have died from suffocation which would have come rather quickly after being contorted into such a small space. It would have made a healthy person unable to breathe. Add morphine to the picture, which slows the respiratory rate, and death would occur quickly. Considering his plight, the morphine was a blessing. Love the before/after pictures and your amazingly perfect placement of them! Another great episode, Jeff, thanks!

Also love seeing small museums. Local history is the hardest to preserve because it changes frequently and people don’t think it matters but then fifty years out, nobody is alive to remember and historians have no resources. Keep it up Jeff & Sarah!

Emma was quite notorious for years in that area after that 1906 incident. She was a swindler long before the murder and thereafter attempted to carry on her scurrilous behavior. Jeff you really pick very interesting subjects of focus. The infamous LeDoux is no exception.

Thank you for today's episode. It was fascinating to get a glimpse of the Stockton museum. Emma LeDoux did not have to resort to the crime she committed. Even if there was not the surveillance or D.N.A. capability we have today, how she thought she could get away with that heinous crime is incredible.

What we always loved about our California home is some of the fascinating history! Having worked for the California Department of Corrections we learned about some of the more infamous. Wow, Sibley is a name associated with a small lakeside resort near our Farmstead in ND. When doing a bit of research on our local name, I discovered a huge trove of information on the man's life.---I was pleased to see that the museum guard recognized you and let you in. My Mom & I had a similar experience at the Santa Maria Court when Micheal Jackson was on trial. We stopped to take photos to send to one of Mom's cousins in ND, & the guard on weekend duty casually asked us our business. On hearing we were ND natives, he acknowledged his own ND roots & opened up to let us step inside for two quick photos!---Great trip for us today, thanx for everything Jeff.

@@jbenziggy Yes, I enjoy the old history so much. I'm watching your Lodi segment now. Interesting seeing the Haggin Museum as I had girlfriends that use to work there. Moving out of Stockton and going onto the outskirts of the area marring and buying land in the Lodi area love hearing anything about that area also. Worked up in Sutter Creek I found friendly ghost visits so if you have anything in that area I would enjoy too. Now living over in the Nevada City area there is a lot of history over here also. I know you are busy and will check all your video's out....thank you again.

Good job on the story. When you first mentioned the body in the trunk, and a woman being involved , I thought it was about Winnie Ruth Judd , but I think she was from Arizona . Her case involved a trunk and a train station too. I read a book about her a long time ago. Thanks for sharing your video. ❤

I had never heard of that loathsome individual. I can't believe she was paroled! She certainly had not been reformed while in prison. Her death plot, of that poor, unsuspecting man, seems bizarre, to say the least. Let's hope he was unconscious, during his horrific ordeal...❤️‍🩹 The curator of the museum was spectacular.
