Now that I'm officially a KOF fan with KOF 14 I'm gonna go back, watch, and appreciate all of these matches from previous KOF tournaments

its matches like these that makes EVO so damn great. two high level players playing the best game of their lives on the grand stage that is EVO. and the fact that reynald was so very close to going with just a single mix up and he came back to win it all is a EVO moment. congrats to both woo and reynald for giving us one hell of a show.

Honest to God, Reynald vs. Woo was just...the perfect way to start the Saturday tournaments. Reynald's EX Kyo just...tore...it...up. The adrenaline rush just from watching that match was amazing.

A "reset" is when you drop a combo on purpose to try to pick it right back up because combos lose power as the progress (usually), and "HD" is a new mechanic in the KoF where they glow orange-ish and can do more combo damage and end with a super special move (I THINK called a Drive Cancel?)

If you rewatch last years evo Reynald was INSANELY close to beating madkof, he deserved it this year for sure.

This pile of shenanigans is one of my favourite Grand Finals ever. I rewatch it all the damn time. The commentary, the EX Kyo nonsense and the AS Reynald moments are just pure FGC bliss. 22:13 watching Takuma get straight-up erased is a personal recco.

Watch from 22:21 - the announcers get really excited and then one of em says "the fuckin" and then he tries to change it to "the freakin" then he apologizes haha

Reynald is LEGIT, he beat all the Foreign players and then Japans finest to take the crown for King of Fighters XIII. This game has put up two SPECTACULAR Grand Finals in the past two years. Absolutely mind blown. I'm even shocked because being from the US I always felt that KoF wasn't one of our stronger games, however Reynald prove me wrong by going through the gauntlet. Dude deserves this win.

HD stands for Hyper Drive. You Drive Cancel when you cancel a special into another special (You need a green bar in order to do this). When you enter HD mode (need both green bars), you can drive cancel for much less, and your NEO MAX (The super special at the end of many HD Combos) costs one less stock (orange bars) than normal.

Man I love this game...I only could imagine what next one or capcom vs Snk 3 gon be like....I hope it has sick combos like this but better

There were still plenty of Mexican players at EVO. Top 8 finalist Romance is one example. However, now that Pro-Gamers are officially classified as "athletes" by the US Government, it should be easier for players like Bala to attend tournaments.

Apparently Woo is a Kansai (region in Japan) player who is known for his Kim and Mai. No wonder he put Mai as his anchor in that one round. I thought he was loosing his mind and i was like facepalm

That's pretty much it...if you saw the performance of Koukou and Haregoro at the 3on3 tournament afterwards, you would wonder how the hell those two guys didn't get first or second place at Evo. The same goes with Nemo in Marvel.

So it's confirmed that Reynald defeated MadKOF, who in turn beat BALA last year. I'd still love to see a tournament match between BALA who is a Mexican, the undisputed masters of KOF by tradition, with Reynald the current champion.

when someone in losers bracket competes for the Grand Final against the person in winners they have to beat them 3/5 two times. Meaning the person who was in losers has to win 2 sets to win the championship while the person in winners need to win only 1 set.

BALA not the only person who plays well in mexico there are other players like koopa and kula. BALA is the uncrowned champion kof 13 but like most Latin American players have visa problems. Latin America has good players but many can not go to these tournaments :S

I think the takeaway from EVO this year is that the less-traveled Japanese players need to do a better job dealing with the pressure and the US tourney format. I thought we saw it in KOF and SF4 for sure. Their skill level may be the highest, but that doesn't matter if you crack under the pressure. Hopefully they learn from their losses, and run it back next year.

Watch any sport with commentators. They get hype for impressive plays by either player. Woo had some good Takuma combos that the commentators got hype for, so its not like they were entirely on Reynald's side. Reynald just played better so he was getting hyped more. Although, Hellpockets is a teammate and friend of Reynald, so of course some of his bias is gonna show in his commentating. Bottom line is that these guys aren't professional commentators so they shouldn't be held to a pro standard.
