Finally...in car commentary is back for ECOTY! Your best video in YEARS! There is only one other element you need to add for next year. A one hour fireside chat in the pub with all participants, discussing the final rankings. That way we'd get the scenery, the in-car commentary, and an insight into the banter amongst the team.

A video from Evo again!? Finally man. Honestly feels like car magazines such as Evo, Autocar an so on have been taken over and left in the dust by independent KZfaqrs and new channels, but this is a reminder as to why we need constant videos from Evo and so on, great video

100%. It's a night and day difference and elevates even the base GT3 to a level of precision that it's predecessor simply couldn't match (save for the more analog cars like the 996 GT3 and 997 GT3--but they have the advantage of hydraulic power steering).

Yeah definitely. my 20 year old Honda with double wishbones just has something special about the road feel that my brand new Toyota xse can’t replicate. While I’m sure the limits are higher it just feels better

I remember my uncle bringing a physical 1 TB hard-drive to my house to transfer pirated copies of top gear for me 12ish years ago. The fact that i can now simply open my computer and access this level of production value, journalistic and presentational skill, and quality of subjects (the cars) is just incredible. Jethro, Dickie, and Steve together on camera is such a privilege to watch - thanks for bringing us this level of content time and time again!

The STO takes the cake for me. I had an opportunity to drive one for a few days relatively recently and it’s as refreshing as ice cold water on a hot day. In a world of turbos and low reviving engines with little character, even just the noise itself sets it apart from nearly all of the competition. It’s pinnacle performance for, unfortunately, a dying breed of naturally aspirated engines. Im praying I’ll be able to get in one again because I agree with Steve, it’s so refined in its delivery that it catches you off guard after driving what most would consider “boring cars” for quite some time.

Wow what a beast that M5 CS is! Biggest surprise to me is the STO beating out the GT3!! Shows volumes about how special the STO really is and how much racecar for the road translates over. Also surprised the Giulia Quadrofoglio GTA M didn't make the cut.

The Subscribers Version has the News on the GTA-M and its Issues. The GTA-M was Due to appear, and was Dickie Meaden's Car of the Year Regardless, but, Sadly. Alfa Romeo let them Down, they Could not Provide the original Car (given Top Gear had the GTA-M , I think they may have nabbed it) on the Dates ECOTY was due to Happen as it had to be bought Forward due to the Dreaded Lurgi, then Alfa Romeo "lost" the Replacement Car, then they could only offer them the Original Car for Half of the last Day. Alfa Romeo dropped the Ball. We can only hope it appears in ECOTY 2022 instead. Hope that Helps.

The M5 CS is absolutely fantastic, but I do think expectations played a part. The reality is expectations are low for BMW as of late, which I think subconsciously impacted scoring. GT3 is better in all driving aspects - steering feel, engine, transmission (manual or PDK), brake feel, chassis dynamics, lightweight, etc. and for about the same price. But we've come to expect that from a GT3. Not trying to take away from the M5 CS. It's just it's what the base M5 should be, and what all M cars used to offer.

I saw an sto vs gt3 video analysis/review. .. the STO looked and probably is just a track car. The noise at more than 40 mph is fun for 30 minutes, bearable for another 30 and unbearable for the next hour. This is a 2 hour drive car.. maximum... and that's not an amount of time that I consider to be sufficient... nor do I would like to wear ear plugs when driving on my favourite mountain road on something else beside a bike and, even then, I would prefer not to. I hate to say it but, at the end of this magnificent v10, audi has done a better job with the R8 rwd while this sto is just a play of who's got a longer sausage; any special car that's not usable on roads, cannot do a 300 mile trip to your favorite roads and back, it is not a real car or a serious option.. it is just a toy for those with little imagination. (not that I'm in the position to buy one but, even if I would be, I wouldn't; I wouldn't buy the 992 gt3 either as it seems also too track focused and too hard on suspensions for the roads I enjoy the most)

@@eugenux Like you, I'm someone who values liveability on real roads. The new GT3 is easily civil enough to use as a weekend warrior. It's just doesn't work as well as a daily anymore. Not sure if you've driven a 991 GT3, but it's shockingly comfortable for the performance it offers. Again, I think 992 is being compared vs expectations. It's nowhere near as rough as the STO.

@@The_Stanman hi, no I did not. As far as I know, there is only one 992 gt3 in my country and I am not in the position to buy one. If I would be, I would probably go for a 991.2. As for the STO, that's not something I'd want or ever consider; I find the evo rwd a much better proposition but, again, that's not a car I could afford now. What I fear is that, by the time I could afford one(either one), in a world full of EVs, the N/A cars would worth gazillions and thus, making them an option just for smarter and more fortunate/wealthier men than myself.

I love that a $30k Hyundai made it halfway up ECOTY. It speaks leaps and bounds to what that company has done in the hot hatch segment. And, half the price of the CTR.

Surprised that M5 edged out the STO. But I think it was said best in the film: The STO is just simple; there's no questions about what it is or what it's trying to do or why it exists. V10 NA, DCT, insane aero, and that's all you need really. It's as new as old-school gets. And that's why I ordered one.

No knock to the M5 but funny how all the motoring journalists out there praise high-revving normally aspirated engines, manual gearboxes, focused sports cars, and Porsche gives it to them, when no one else will, and then they pick the turbocharged, automatic sports sedan.

BMW M is a bit of on a roll. The M2 CS was a hit and now the M5 CS. That puts pressure on them to deliver on the M4 CS(L?). BMW could make it 3 in a row next year. Out of these cars I would have that M5 CS and the GT3. I am still not sure what I would rather have the touring or the regular GT3. They are both stunners.

A Lamborghini rated over a Porsche 911 GT3, that’s a first. It took a whole lot of work for Lamborghini to work on that platform since almost a decade but they have achieved what they set ought to. Congratulations Lambo!!

Finally they pick a car that you can use daily and having fun at track when weekend comes. Although I will place that SF90 over STO or GT3 touring. Ferrari GT cars is incredibly comfortable to drive.

Thought I spied a Catchapole, the scorecard seems to suggest one was running about. Pity for ECOTY you can't put aside licensing or whatever impediments. Lovely vid, really need to cross the Atlantic to sample some of those roads, absolutely breathtaking ( even if devoid of anything that resembles a tree ). Thanks and cheers.

I was another who complained after being hugely disappointed by the 2020 ECOTY vid, which was the worst I can remember. This year, as others have said, you have totally turned it around and produced an informative, interesting, visually rich, inspiring & artistic presentation that shows the cars more, from better perspectives and with more insight than you previously did. I really enjoyed it this time, thank you for listening to the readers / viewers. EVO returns to top form once again! Well done. 👏🏻

I’m still in shock that M5 actually beat GT3. I have never driven the M5 but I know how good the GT3 is. I want to try that M5 bad ! After saying that. A CS version is pretty rare

Much better than previous few eCOTY video features. If I had to pick a hole in it I'd say it's a bit monochromatic with that brown-ish filter over everything. But other than that, thank you for the video and congratulations.

Brilliant video thank you. To enhance your mantra to “get away from the numbers”, the results would be easier to understand and less bias if Judges individually ranked cars 1st-8th. Ranking the scores changes the results and puts the i20N ahead of the Civic, it would remove the bias of generous judges and prevent so many identical scores…for example, AT gave the same score to his 2nd and 3rd choice cars? It’s a only a small point. Thanks again, I don’t know how you can possibly create such great free content with such minimal advertising.

Agreed with most others in these comments-quality long form content like ECOTY is leagues better than most of the independent car KZfaqrs. Hard to believe that films like these and Chris Harris on Cars are nearly old-fashioned. Well done!

Even if Hyundai doesn't win. It's a winning car. Out of nowhere it's produced a baby performance car like that. All the other cars m, gt, type r etc have made real sport cars for years and years. I looked at the list couldn't stop howling meaning Koreans should be proud of themselves. For me every other car is out of my affordability and insurance and running costs. This video is like a epic short movie with glorious tranquil music. The best car review program I have ever seen with truthful narrative. Hyundai is my choice, exciting, looks, five door, everyday use, audio sound, insurance costs, mpg, grip, price, family friendly, gadget display like a gtr. Agile, nimble, lightweight. If I was mental fanatic I would get that thing ramped up to road legal rally spec.

Lovely car review, refreshing in these quite sad pandemic days. Glad to see Jehtro back even if not commenting on the 911. I would have appreciated more dynamic views, gt3, STO and M5 CS deserve sideways corner exits !

Manuals rule like it or not! We all know the Aston was out from the beginning! Yes, my first pick is the M5 CS although it ain't a manual. Spot two goes to the 911 GT3 Touring and last the Civic Type R Limited. As far as we go, the only British car or lets say supercar that will always remain a legend is the McLaren F1 in any spec! Thank you EVO for your insightful video as usual. Looking forward to next year's EVO car of the year 👍🏻cheers
