Brad, thank you for the instructive video! However there are a few things I#d like to add. I am a pro pilot on long range and I take my bike on about every fourth trip all around the world and have some experience with the EVOC bike bag. First of all I recommend a chain holder instead of the rear axle to be mounted. That will keep your chain clear of the frame and from wobbling around scratching other bike parts. To my experience there is no need to remove the rear derailleur. It is well enough protected from the outside wheels. Just make sure the frame is securely fastened on the center block designed to take the frame. Also I recommend to remove the saddle/seat post as like your frame, the seat tube gets thinner downward to the bracket. To prevent damage to the frame, seat post and saddle I suggest the assembly to be removed and welcroed to the side behind the frame attachment. When securing the fork, have it looking forward to have the brake caliper secure inside the bag instead of risking outside mishandling damage the caliper. Last I would recommend not to handle the wheels at the disks. If your hands/gloves have a tad of grease on them, you might compromise your brake efficiency completely and this will need a thorough. Cleaning of the disks and might even call for new brake pads should they be contaminated as well. Cheers, Chris

Great comment! How does an airline handle such bike bag? I am very worried that they stack other stuff on top and will break my carbon wheels

Thanks for the video - Tip: Ziptie (or velcro strap) your chain to the big ring, takes care of the cutting your bag problem. Also, I've seen WAY to many folks have their helmets cracked by packing it in the bike bag, always carry-on for me.

Noticed on mine too that the seat post tie is too far back. I had to turn my fork 90 degrees otherwise the stem protruded too far forward and I don't want to remove it. Also the clips to secure the fork are on the wrong side of the bag. Lastly I put pieces of pool noodles and pipe insulation around every part of the frame, brake handles, etc. I am tempted to put the rear wheel with the disk towards the inside since it's surely more fragile than gears.

Pro Tip! Don't pack CO2 cartridges because they will trigger the airport security scanner. I got to visit the windowless room for that one. Once I pulled it out, they did say CO2 is allowed, but I threw it away anyway

Hey Brad, great video but I just have 1 question, I have listened to your video on how to pack my bike and I have done it but on a tag on the bag it says that a road bike stand pro is needed for road bike and I am wondering if I have to get it?

There are really no other videos on that on KZfaq. Thanks man! Now I also see why Evoc urges you to use the Pro Stand. Road Bikes are simply too short for that design.

So is there a reason why a drill is preferred over a regular 5-6m Allen key? Seemed like it took that much longer struggling with the drill.

I think I would take that saddle off there were some restraining brackets/ loops I could see maybe that's where it should go. You didn't put tape around the stem a guide for seat height more bubble wrap, nothing you should do in hurry with your pride and joy

So much effort! Time! And uncertainty in the view of the abuse the halfwit baggage handlers lavishly impart upon all luggage, especially oversized luggage and sports equipment / bicycles. Add to that the idiotic policy of many a railway company that require for bikes to be disassembled and stashed in bags for transport - and you get a picture of the hassle and expense a cycle tourist is imposed upon just to ensure his property is not destroyed or left at the destination, as he heads back home upon completion of a tour. One is essentially forced to shell out €10.000+ on a custom bike with couplers (My favourite would be the Santana's Z-type), brake housing liner spill-free instant couplers (Brake Breaks), Sram AXS groupset (i.e., fully wireless, but priced accordingly) and an aluminium wheeled case (i.e., S&S or the like) with made-to-order hard foam dividers. All because the luggage handlers tend to do their job with intolerably cavalier attitude. And no-one assumes responsibility for the destruction of a cyclist's property on flights. I've seen once beautiful new carbon bikes transformed into mangled mass of waste by luggage handlers. Infuriating!

I just bought one of these Evoc Bike bags and tried to put my road bike in it. What a complete cluster fk. There's no way to mount it securely to the bottom bracket "block" provided. Worst design in the world. The instructions even say if you want to use it for a road bike you need to also order the bike mount. So now I'm doing that, another $200. For any of these bike transport bags you need something rigid to attach your front fork and rear triangle to, otherwise you're just rolling the dice with transport and your frame getting crushed. In short, this bag sucks unless you add an mount. Order the "Pro" version that comes with the bike mount or go elsewhere and get another that has an internal mount.
