There is much more,the T-54/55 has fought in wars in Africa,of course it was a T-54 that crashed through the gates of South Vietnam’s presidential palace in 1975.Hussein had thousands of T-55s,including Polish models with more oval shaped turrets,that fought Iran,and then confronted a 30 some country coalition led by a superpower in 1991.

The T-54/55 is the AK-47 of tanks,and the fact that the 54/55 was still considered a Main Battle Tank of the Warsaw Pact in the 1980s,is absolutely remarkable.

@@Fesko-ly1wr first prototypes of T-44 and T-54 were build even at the end of WWII, before september 1 of 1945. Also there should be mentioned T-80BV - reactive armored T-80B, T-55AMV and T-62MV (both with explosive reactive armor), T-10 with T-10A or T-10M and it's early model called IS-8. As for tanks, there were extensive modernisation of IS-2 and T-34-85 in Cold-War Era. Oh, and there must be T-72AV (T-72A with reactive armor), T-72B mod.1989 (with new Kontakt-5) and T-72BU (mean T-72B-Upgraded, the prototype of T-90, or even objects 187 and 188). I wonder what the Russians genuinely thought of the armoured vehicles that Britain and America supplied to them during the second World War and when I say I wonder I mean "off the record" as what we supplied to them was better than alot of the stuff that they were using at the time!

One thing bothers me but its not issue with your animation (dont get me wrong animation is amazing). its the issue of what tanks are popular: Object 279 heavy tank was rejected quite very early in development in favor of... everything you said is correct, i mean that the tank that played a bigger role in soviet tank development is not shown in this or many similar videos just because the first one gets more love from the commmunity. As ridiculous as it is, you're right. The Kharkov Design Bureau really wanted to put the 130 mm gun on heavy tanks, but also because of it, most of the prototypes could not even make it to military trials. Soviet 130-mm gun S-69 (on its basis was created experimental tank gun S-70) had a rather low barrel life, which was tolerable in artillery, because there were not used shells with large powder filling, but for the tank gun it was necessary to have a ballistic straightness, which wore out the barrel after 300-400 shots.

@@FF-zw9wf It's not really relevant, though. Probably a similar situation as with the T-64, where the planned gun was not ready in time so they put an older cannon on the initial tanks. That is how the early T-64s got the 115mm gun, although to my knowledge all of them were later retrofitted with the 125mm gun. It is an interesting fact to know, but not that relevant, even though in the case of T-64 a significant number of tanks did receive the 115mm gun. But the tank was always meant to have the new 125mm cannon, the cannon just wasn't ready in time.

@Scorchluck 5 ай бұрын
My dude, I don't know if there are a lot of materials in English, but look for information about the "Sovershenstvovanie-88" program. All the latest "objects" shown in the video were developed within the framework of this competition. And the Object-490A not mentioned here. Most of them were created in metal (here it should be noted that we are talking about full-size running models of structural steel), Object-477 "Molot", had three prototypes, 2 of them were undergoing military testing, its development was conducted in 2007, when the new Defense Minister Serdyukov curtailed the program, and tried to buy wheeled tanks from the Italians. The developments on the 477 object became the basis for the T-14. Tank development stopped only with the collapse of the USSR and the monstrous economic disaster. The T-14 is an economically stripped down version of the tank that the USSR would have put into service sometime by 1995 (the planned date for the competition). And it is the most modest version of what was planned.

@@gallustsp Actually, I think the video is right, some tanks were produced with the 115mm gun because the new 125mm wasn't ready in time. Video states 1000 tanks produced this way, I don't know whether or not this is accurate, but I do remember reading about early production models receiving the older gun. However, if I recall correctly, they were all later retrofitted with the 125mm gun.
