Absolutely wonderful Chris! Most of those songs were ones I grew up with too and have a fondness for many of them. You are so talented and have such a gift for putting together amazing renditions of songs that might have gotten boring over the years. Thank you for a revival and making this fun and interesting! God bless you!

Very nostalgic; from the hymns that grew me in the Anglican Church to those that strengthened in the Pentecostal, to ecumenical and the contemporary choruses. Beautifully done Chris. I love the harmonies very much and the touch of beatboxing. Now carry on:)

I had no idea "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence" was that old! This was just what I needed to hear tonight. Thank you. I can't tell you how much I miss singing in choirs--and the singing in chapel at Lincoln Christian College was as good as any choir's. You're really taking me back, Chris--and then bringing me all the way up to last Sunday. "Awesome God" made me cry.

It’s amazing how universal hymns are, that someone from the US can sing them, and people as far afield as Denmark and South Africa recognize them, though that’s the point of many of the songs. Hymns and pieces of church music have often been set to popular tunes for the express reason that it’s music that lots of people know. I’m actually less familiar with the modern pieces (I didn’t recognize any of the ones written in the last 20 years), but I’m not surprised by that since most of the church music I sing now is for my local cathedral. I did have to pause a couple of times to try and figure out which piece was what, because I know them in a bunch of different languages.
@johannebrsted6495
@johannebrsted6495 3 жыл бұрын
@@Caitydubbelyew I had trouble with the newer ones, too. As for the universal quality of hymns, that is quite natural: people emigrating from Europe brought their culture with them, and part of that culture was religion.

Not too sure I could be convinced they are getting better with time :-/ Passing the book is always better than passing the buck! A Mighty Fortress...IIRC, that is the one that coopted a contemporary drinking tune and when Luther was questioned on the matter, said something to the effect of "Why should the devil have all the good tunes" ;-)

What most people don't know is that many of the hymns that came from the reformation period to the early 20th century where set to tunes of popular drinking songs. In fact the temperance movement had many writers write hymns that used the same tunes as popular drinking songs to try and get people to stop drinking.

@@JamesDunn-sk2sj Yup, and Christianity absconded with MANY of the pagan holidays of the time to try to get conversions with less resistance. It was all a numbers game, like always.

@@MrJdsenior it wasn't always a numbers game. But once Constantine convert to Christianity and made it the official religion of the Roman empire it started to become a numbers game. Then with the rise of papacy it really became that way sadly.

A few of my favorites were there. Amazing Grace always makes me cry for some reason, but all time favorite is How Great Thou Art. My sister took organ lessons for years and her teacher finally told her she she couldn’t teach her anything more. My sister always wanted to play a church organ and got the chance when we were on vacation in NC. Our relatives talk to their pastor and they let her play How Great Thou Art during collection! My Uncle was an Usher and my Aunt was in the choir!

Sorry, I meant another collaboration. I LOVE that one! It was nice to hear them go a little country lol and y'all sound really great together. I was just hoping for another one! Particularly with the range all of y'all have, there are so many options! A new collaboration on a song or medley would be a hit! Not to mention, y'all seemed like you had fun. I noticed the rooster in the video. Nice touch btw. Lol. 🐔

I heard this the first time the night my cousin died. Thank you Chris Rupp. You managed to brighten my dark day with music his father lead at the Mesquite Church of Christ in Mesquite Texas. RIP Brian Mercer. You are missed my cousin.

You hit many of my favorites. I was raised on these hymns. My church still uses the Baptist Hymnal every Sunday. We love it. Great music and sound theology. Not that I don’t enjoy a good “pep rally for Jesus “ meeting.
