It’s sad that my original comment was only posted 4 months ago. Not even 1/2 of a year before Minecraft fell. It’s still my favorite game, but I have resorted to only playing on previous versions

Part of what makes the updates so good is that the old stuff is still there. There arent any big changes except for the better. You can do now what you could do in 2009, but tons more.

The most incredible thing about this game is of course the creativity aspect, but also the fact that it has inspired so many other indie games to have procedural generation.

Minecraft is improving so much, I wonder what it will look like in 2030! I remember when there were no spawn eggs and I had to trap animals (only cows, chickens, sheep, and pigs) to domesticate them!

Couple corrections off the bat: fairly certainly it was originally called "Cave Game" or just "Game" very early on. Also, the "failed pig" was from the torso being flipped vertically, not the pig's fully body (bit pedantic, I know) great information!

Also, the clips credited to AntVenom are incorrectly credited, HatFilms made it and it was shown at BlizzCon in, I wanna say, 2011 And they pronounced Persson as both "Peer-son" and "Per-son"

After Caves and Cliffs part 1 came part 2. New Regions were added such as Lush Caves, Jagged peaks, Deepslate caves and Deepslate Mineshafts. Next came The Wild Update. New mobs were added such as Allays, Frogs and even The Warden. New regions were added such as Mangrove Swamps and The Deep Dark. Fun Fact: There were many Minecraft Warden Prototypes. Next Came The 1.20 Update. New Mobs were added such as Sniffers and Camels. It also added Rafts, Hanging Signs, Bamboo Blocks, and a new Biome known as Cherry Blossom. It also added archeology. 4:09 I feel like this was the version I remember seeing folks play, during the time I was in the fifth grade. But I could be mistaking it with this one 4:48, which would've been during my sixth grade. It's hard to say for sure. But from there, many of the updates kept adding up to the world, making it feel more lush, varied, expansive, yet still cohesive. For instance, it was in this time that I remember having once bought a Minecraft magazine in London, which talked about the future release of Minecraft: Story Mode. I was honestly really excited for the story of that game... Either way, I remember seeing folks in my school play the game on their laptops... I still remember being scared of hearing the zombies, seeing the spiders, the caves... but also being fascinated with the expansiveness of the world. Things definitely started feeling more... "alien" with the Combat update. I dunno, I feel like that was when the biggest shift of feel happened. But it could be just me. Going a bit on a tangent here, but it's interesting how, back then, folks didn't know how to craft things, the game didn't tell them the recipes, and they had to figure them out, experiment, or talk with others to learn new things. It was a very "word of mouth" game, akim to the older games of the 80s and 90s that weren't as straightforward, like the Legend of Zelda for the NES. As handy as the recipe inclusion in the game is, I kinda miss that older aspect of the game.

My favorite update is 1.14 because that update added a feature that I did not understand at first, but now love doing so much that I just can’t stop doing it. That feature is of course, raids.

started playing 2010 or early 2011, around the time weather was introduced to the game. The game has really evolved since then, doesn't feel the same as it does now though. It had a different vibe back then. Back then it seemed like a game that attracted a more mature audience. There was much less content and instruction back then, but that's what made it magical imo. You had to find your way and make your own stories. There was no goal, no directions or anything. It was a pretty lonely game with beautifully depressing music..Just you in a randomly generated world with a few animals and a few mobs. Each update introduced more content in the game, it was blowing up. Minecon became a thing then got too big for Notch to handle and he wasn't as in tune with the community anymore, I feel when the tone started to change was when he sold it to Microsoft. Yes, it kept blowing up afterwards but I felt the direction of the game changed a bit, became more kid friendly which is smart on a marketing level but it started to feel a bit different imo and the momentum seemed to have died down a little each year since.

Don't even understand why people even trap villagers, bad trades? JUST GET OUT OF THERE! good trades? let them be, they won't just leave the village. Villagers are living their own lives, if they're not trading what you want, don't trade in the first place! Iron farms also become extremely pointless after you've built all your beacons and advanced to all diamond gear.

I was nine when the game came out, and I remember my friend burning the beta version onto a CD for me to put in my computer so we could play together, and my siblings and I always arguing over who got to play next. I also remember binging the old music video song parodies on KZfaq for hours as well. I feel so old now, lol. Will always have a place in my heart for this game

I remember first playing it on my brothers computer when I was around 4 or 5 in 2009, and boy has it come a long way, I'm still in love with Minecraft, but the first memory from Minecraft from what I can remember is Infdev(I think that's how you spell it?-) or Alpha version

Minecraft evolution is amazing, I really like this game too. It's nicer to play through video games, so you find a partner to play with you together, so it's more fun, I don't think it's very cool on the cell phone, it even loses the fun playing alone, then not.👍🏻

the one "update" I remember the most was an April Fools update when the Villagers from Element Animation took over. Everyone was a villager and all the sfx/music was vocalized/acapella. it was great

You forgot one fact/thing to add in the video. So I’ll just add it here. Fun fact: While infdev was in progress, a huge structure known as the FarLands was added into the game. Unfortunately this structure was removed and replaced by the world border in Beta 1.8.0.

Minecraft will never die, because of random generation, every world (unless you get super lucky or type in the same seed) is unique and will never have a world that is the same, Minecraft also has a lot of replayability which is key in its success, with constant support from mojang and an infinite sandbox where you can literally do anything and everything is what makes the gam stay alive for this long

You also forgot legacy console edition, an edition made exclusively for consoles by 4J studios in collaboration with Mojang, and existed on consoles all the way until 2018 where bedrock took its place.

I started playing Minecraft 8 years ago... It's great how the game evolved this much. Honestly i prefer 2013 Minecraft way more than 2021 Minecraft. At that time everyone talked about legendary DanTDM and his series, also PopularMMOs and his mod reviews. Now everyone talks about how Dream cheated in his freaking manhunts. Before he became popular i saw one speedbridger and no more. Now everyone does that. Also we mustn't forget iconic buildings made from old times. Great video Flatlife!

This is amazing. Great work! If i didn't bought MC already, this is what would do now. Apart from that, it is amazing, how minecraft developed so far. With the aquisator, i can even live under water without air and i am save from monsters there. Even drowned with tridents can blocked with childs and I can dive forward to attack them. This makes the sea to a one of the savest areas I can ever find. Although some monsters are around. The colorful corals make them to one of the beautifulest area as well.
