I disagree… to me the best voice in college football was Ron Franklin. And his partner Mike Gottfried was an awesome color analyst. Great team!!!!!

It’s gone down now that college football is so bland. That era had Baylor and Oklahoma St in NC hopefuls. Now all it is is Alabama,Clemson,Ohio st,Oklahoma Repeat. Talk about least popular schools outside of fan bases. If those top four were literally any other school people would love them but the 4 best are the 4 most boring/hated teams

@@conorcane1211 it’s kinda always been those teams for the last 151 years of football, cause nowadays we have teams like cincy and UCF that are the hopefuls now. However baylor went down hill due to their horrible doings, and Oklahoma state has been good they can just never beat their big brother or Texas it ever seems. But I do generally agree. There were a ton more teams in the NC talk in the BCS it seems then there were in the CFP era which is ironic

@@Zrich98 yea but I feel with the playoff it’s actually *Harder* for Cinderella to make it. The committee is so stricted with the top 4 they put a 11-1 (recent loss) Ohio st ahead of 13-0 UCF (who at that point was on a 25 game win streak). I’m willing to bet if the coaches poll was in charge it would be way better. We need a playoff system with the coaches poll cuz they almost never get it wrong

The mid-late 2000s ESPN college football theme is just so iconic it's tough to beat. I did think the into to LSU-Texas game in 2019 was pretty epic though(no bias in the slightest lol).

2006 took me back. And hearing the snares in the 2009 definitely took me back to freshman year of high. Being on the drumline for Friday nights then to hear that the next day. Good times

0:46 made you feel like you were about to watch gladiators fight before Brent started talking. The swirl around the stadium and the sillouites of the players standing in the light of the tunnel gives you goosebumps.

Virtually everything got worse as time went on, even the matchups weren’t as good save for a couple of seasons. Growing up it felt like every Saturday night game on abc was huge but not nearly as much anymore

I personally like the 2015-17 the best, the intro music and graphics just sounds so much better to me and I loved it, hate that they took that away because it was honestly the only reason I turned on Saturday night football, I just don’t think that intro matched with Chris Fowler can be beat

@@joey.thieme i think chris fowler was legendary as the college gameday host. imo he's miscast in the booth. his commentating style doesn't suit the play-by-play position, but i read back in the day that chris fowler was going to leave espn if they didn't give him the #1 play-by-play position so they panicked and gave it to him. and while he's grown into the role a little, i still don't think he's even comparable to guys like brent musberger, keith jackson, etc.

@@abneryates4304 I’m younger and have less memories with Brent and them than I do Fowler, so maybe I don’t notice his hiccups or worse fit in the booth compared to being host, so I love Fowler. All preference I feel like

I do too. The separation between the power 5 and the group of 5 has widened. I went to a G5 university and I just feel like the chances are getting smaller for any team not in the power 5 to get to the CFP. The BCS never really got it wrong except for 2001. I think it’s better for the G5 to split off and do their own thing and let the Power 5 do theirs. I’ve been a proponent of that for years.

I think an argument can be made for 2001 and 2003, but outside of those, I think every other matchup was right. 98 - Tennessee vs Florida State 99 - Florida State vs Virginia Tech 00 - Oklahoma vs Florida State 01 - Miami (FL) vs Nebraska 02 - Ohio State vs Miami (FL) 03 - LSU vs Oklahoma 04 - USC vs Oklahoma 05 - Texas vs USC 06 - Florida vs Ohio State 07 - LSU vs Ohio State 08 - Florida vs Oklahoma 09 - Alabama vs Texas 10 - Auburn vs Oregon 11 - Alabama vs LSU 12 - Alabama vs Notre Dame 13 - Florida State vs Auburn Except for ‘01 and ‘03, I can’t see another matchup where the BCS was clearly wrong. Bring it back, don’t expand. The regular season will be of diminished importance, and college football will only be about the big 5 conferences. Schools in the lower 5 conference should split off and do their own thing. It doesn’t make sense the way they do it now.

@@jdh6818 I disagree. Oklahoma State lost against an unranked Iowa State that year, Alabama lost to #1 LSU in OT, and then shut them out given the rematch opportunity. Alabama vs LSU was the best game that year.

Don't they still that intro? I believe its still used just not for the saturday night broadcasts. I swear the ESPN 2 games and noon games use that intro still (or similar).

Just realized travelling through California Musberger does Raiders play by play. Dude couldn't give up the itch. Was a useless preseason game between two teams I couldn't care less about but was nice hearing him call a game on a drive

I'm a die hard Bama fan but look at LSU out there before the texas game, that team had swagger. They knew how good they were and we all didnt have a clue. I wish I could see Bama 2020 or bama 2012 vs 2019 lsu.

I don't think many people remember this but I remember they had regionalized games as well early on. I think it was pretty rare that you saw a game other then the national one unless you in the local area for one of the teams playing

You're exactly right. Very few Saturday Night Football games were truly "national" early on. That wasn't until the last few years of the BCS. Even into the first couple years of the CFP era, we've had the occasional "reverse mirror" game, where the game that wasn't on ABC was on ESPN2.

The early era of ESPN on ABC intros was great but it doesn't beat ABC College Football’s intros from 1999 to 2005. They would hype up the storylines right before kickoff which, would get you even more hyped.

I personally liked the 2012-2014 music the best (I thought it was nice and dramatic, especially for a big game), though the graphics I liked best were 2015-17 (seeing team logos and clips on passing buildings).

Ever notice how how from 2016 to 2022 whenever there was a B1G game televised on ABC it was presented as "The B1G on ABC" but when it was an ACC, Big XII, or Pac12 game, that aired on the same network on the same day as a B1G game, it was presented as "The ACC/Big XII/Pac12 on ESPN"? In fact, since the ABC Sports rebranding in 2006, no other sports package that aired on ABC, including the NBA, was referred to as the "(blank) on ABC". Instead it was presented as "(blank) on ESPN".

If ESPN gets it's hands on the SEC completely after CBS's contract runs out... And they Don't try to get the SEC on CBS theme. I hope they go back and pick that old theme from 2006. That's what I want to hear. Though it'd be better if CBS just keeps the SEC. lol.

2006-09: good, classic theme. 2010-11: i like this one too. not as good as 06-09, but it’s good for saturday night 2012-14: also a solid intro. the only real change is graphics, which are better than the 2010-11 intros 2015-17: i actually like this intro. felt big. did not like the 2017 game so much… 2018-20: these longer intros can be epic if done right, they can be horrible if done wrong. 2018 and 2020 sucked, but 2019 was excellent.

I do like how 2010 and 2011 had music specially designed for Saturday Night Football. 2006 was the music used across the rest of ESPN; 2007-09 was music that was previously on ABC; and 2012 and beyond have also been used on ESPN College Football Primetime.

Who knows maybe I’m getting old….but it just seems so awful now compared to the late 2000s. Musberger was part of it, but that intro music got you pumped up a lot more than it does now.
